Application of time-of-flight near infrared spectroscopy to Satsuma mandarin

  • In this study, a newly constructed optical measurement system, whose main components were a parametric tunable laser and a near infrared photoelectric multiplier, was applied to detection of the information for the inside of Satsuma mandarin using time-of-flight near infrared spectroscopy (TOF-NIRS). The combined effects on the time resolved profile of sample diameter, sugar content, the wavelength of the laser beam, and the detection position of transmitted light were investigated in detail. The samples used were Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshu $M_{ARC}$.) (location: Wakayama, Japan) having the diameters of 50-84 mm. The sugar content measured by a refractometer varied from 9.9 to 16.3 Brix%. Equator of sample was irradiated vertically with the pulsed laser, and transmitted output power was measured on the restricted position of the equator using the optical fiber cable. The sampling time and the number of averaging the output power were 100 ns and 100 times, respectively. The variation of the attenuance of peak maxima At, the time delay of peak maxima $\Delta$t and the variation of full width at half maximum Δw were strongly dependent on the detection position and the wavelength of the laser beam. At, $\Delta$t and $\Delta$w increased gradually as the sample diameter increased to be much absorbed and vigorously scattered. On the other hand, each optical parameter had a tendency to increase as the sugar content increased. Such behavior was remarkable when the transmitted light was detected at the side face of a sample. When we apply TOF-NIRS to detection of the information for the inside of fruit with high moisture content like Satsuma mandarin, it is very important to give attention to the difference in the scattered light within tissues and the semi-straightly propagated light. Furthermore, we tried to express the resulting phenomena by using a model samples composed of water, sucrose, and milk. The variation of the time resolved profile is strongly governed by the combination of the light absorption component, scattering medium, and refractive index.

상호상관 행렬을 이용한 선배열 빔형성 기법 연구 (A Study on the Linear Array Beamforming by Cross Correlation Matrix)

  • 수동 소나 시스템에서는 신호대 잡음비의 향상, 표적의 방위 탐지 및 위치 데이터 산출, 간섭신호 제거 등을 위하여 지향성 빔을 만들어 사용한다. 주변환경이 복잡한 해양에서 저소음의 표적을 원거리에서 탐지하기 위해서는 지향성 빔의 특성을 향상시킬 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 선형으로 배열된 센서에서 각 센서 쌍들의 상호상관 행렬을 이용한 SCCBF (Spatial Cross Correlation Beamforming) 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이상적인 조건하에서 제안된 SCCBF는 기존의 CBF (Conventional Beamforming)에 비해 배열 이득이 3 dB 이상 향상되고 표적의 탐지 방위 정확도를 나타내는 빔 폭이 CBF보다 0.5배 정도가 됨을 이론적으로 검증하고, 시뮬레이션을 통하여 이를 입증하였다. 또한 제안된 알고리즘을 적용한 선배열 수동 소나 시스템의 해상 시험 결과를 제시하였다.

유리선량계를 이용한 감마나이프의 출력인자 결정 (Determination of Output Factors for the Gamma Knife using a Radiophotoluminescent Glass Rod Detector)

  • 본 연구에서는 유리선량계가 방사선 치료장비의 선량계로서의 적정성 여부를 확인하고자 감마나이프의 출력인자 및 X축 측방선량분포를 측정하였다. 출력인자는 가장 큰 콜리메이터인 18mm의 측정값을 기준으로 하여 14, 8 그리고 4mm에 대해 상대적으로 측정하였고 그 결과 각각 $0.980{\pm}0.013,\;0.949{\pm}0.013$ 그리고 $0.872{\pm}0.012$로 나타났다. 이는 제작회사에서 제공하고 있는 표준데이터와 모든 콜리메이터에서 1.0% 이내에서 잘 일치하는 결과이다. 또한 유리선량계로 측정한 4mm 콜리메이터의 x축 측방선량분포의 반치폭은 5.9mm였다.

Volumetric stability of autogenous bone graft with mandibular body bone: cone-beam computed tomography and three-dimensional reconstruction analysis

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to estimate the volumetric change of augmented autobone harvested from mandibular body cortical bone, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and three-dimensional reconstruction. In addition, the clinical success of dental implants placed 4 to 6 months after bone grafting was also evaluated. Materials and Methods: Ninety-five patients (48 men and 47 women) aged 19 to 72 years were included in this study. A total of 128 graft sites were evaluated. The graft sites were divided into three parts: anterior and both posterior regions of one jaw. All patients included in the study were scheduled for an onlay graft and implantation using a two-stage procedure. The dental implants were inserted 4 to 6 months after the bone graft. Volumetric stability was evaluated by serial CBCT images. Results: No major complications were observed for the donor sites. A total of 128 block bones were used to augment severely resorbed alveolar bone. Only 1 of the 128 bone grafts was resorbed by more than half, and that was due to infection. In total, the average amount of residual grafted bone after resorption at the recipient sites was $74.6%{\pm}8.4%$. Conclusion: Volumetric stability of mandibular body autogenous block grafts is predictable. The procedure is satisfactory for patients who want dental implants regardless of atrophic alveolar bone.

  • Thanks to the great development of technology in radiation, we are now able to reduce radiation exposure to the patients, and the radiographer and expenses in medical sector. We are also trying to produce ideal images which maintain useful information. These kinds of effort are increasing over the world. For that reason, we should get images which include necessary data of patients. Then it also can help to reduce radiation exposure to the patients. Therefore, we need to know the problems that cause a falling off in image's quality and check on generator in case of their electronic and mechanical errors. And moreover, we should anticipate the possibility of devices errors and prevent them with regular quality control. This investigation was conducted in medical institutions, institute of educations and hospitals. They are all in Seongnam-City. We used PMX-III, kVp meter to implement kVp test, mR / mAs output test, light fiel / beam alignment test, Reproducibility of exposure dose, half value layer test, reproducibility of exposure time test. in the case of hospitals, they perceive the importance of regular quality control and organize the regular quality control team so they can be satisfied with the error standard in most experiments. On the other hand, when it comes to medical institutions and institute of educations, they perceive the importance of regular quality control less than hospitals do. Radiographer need to understand the importance of regular quality control and practice it so they can get the fine ideal image with the lower dose to the patient.

Performance monitoring of timber structures in underground construction using wireless SmartPlank

  • Although timber structures have been extensively used in underground temporary supporting system, their actual performance is poorly understood, resulting in potentially conservative and over-engineered design. In this paper, a novel wireless sensor technology, SmartPlank, is introduced to monitor the field performance of timber structures during underground construction. It consists of a wooden beam equipped with a streamlined wireless sensor node, two thin foil strain gauges and two temperature sensors, which enables to measure the strain and temperature at two sides of the beam, and to transmit this information in real-time over an IPv6 (6LowPan) multi-hop wireless mesh network and Internet. Four SmartPlanks were deployed at the London Underground's Tottenham Court Road (TCR) station redevelopment site during the Stair 14 excavation, together with seven relay nodes and a gateway. The monitoring started from August 2013, and will last for one and a half years until the Central Line possession in 2015. This paper reports both the short-term and long-term performances of the monitored timber structures. The grouting effect on the short-term performance of timber structures is highlighted; the grout injection process creates a large downward pressure on the top surface of the SmartPlank. The short and long term earth pressures applied to the monitored structures are estimated from the measured strains, and the estimated values are compared to the design loads.

Radiation Technology in the Preparation of Polyethylene Oxide Hydrophilic Gels and Immobilization of Proteases for Use in Medical Practice

  • This Paper deals with the development of a technology for making a hydrophilic gel of Polyethylene oxide reception in which radiating ability is employed to cause cross-linking of Polymers in a water solution. The gel of polyethylene oxide was shown to be nontoxic contain 5-50% of polymer and be useful in composite medicinal forms along with biologically active substances including Bac. subtilis proteases. Proteases immobilized in the gel possess high thermal stability and proteolytic activity and are readily applied in medicine. The effect of immobilized proteolytic and glucolytic enzymes of Bac. subtillis (Immozimase) on the warm ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) which can cause hepatic and jejunum injury was also studied. These enzymes were immobilized on water-soluble polymer polyethylene glycol by means of an electron beam. The number of degraanulated mast cells as well as serum ALT after I/R in the group with Immozimase was decreased to almost half as compared with the control group. Pretreatment with Immozimase resulted in significant reduction of hepatic and gut neutrophil accumulation as compared with control animals. It was concluded that Immozimase has a protective effect for hepatic and gut ischemia/reperfusion, and this effect seems to be associated with prevention of leukocyte accumulation .

웨이블릿 변환에 의한 시스템 감쇠변수 평가 (Estimation of System Damping Parameter Using Wavelet Transform)

  • 본 연구에서는 웨이블릿 변환을 적용한 시스템 감쇠비 평가에 있어서 고유주파수가 저주파 영역에 속하고, 비교적 높은 감쇠비를 갖는 응답신호에 대하여 웨이블릿 기저함수의 중심주파수 영향을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 단일 모드로 구성된 신호와 일정 주파수를 이격시킨 분리 중첩 모드 신호 및 모드 주파수 성분을 근접시킨 인접 중첩 모드 신호에 대하여 수치해석으로 분석하고, H-Beam을 통한 실내실험을 수행하였다. 분석하고자 하는 모드의 고유주파수는 전체 스케일에 대한 대응 스케일로서 고려되고, 이러한 대응 스케일의 위치는 웨이블릿 기저함수의 중심주파수에 영향을 받게 된다. 따라서 각 모드의 고유주파수에 대응되는 스케일이 전체 스케일의 1/2에 위치되도록 웨이블릿 기저함수의 중심주파수가 선택될 때 감쇠비 평가에 대한 신뢰성이 향상 될 것이다.

  • Ion beam assisted deposition(IBAD) technique was used to produce biaxially textured polycrystalline MgO thin films for high critical current YBCO coated conductor. Hastelloy tapes were continuous electropolished with very smooth surface for IBAD-MgO deposition, RMS roughness of Hastelloy tape values below 2 nm and local slope of less than $1^{\circ}$. After the polishing of the tape an amorphous $Y_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ are deposited Biaxially textured MgO was deposited on amorphous layer bye-beam evaporation with a simultaneous bombardment of high energy ions. We had developed the RHEED to measure in-situ biaxial texture of film surface as thin as tens angstrom. And also ex-situ characterization of buffer layers was studied using XRD and SEM. The full-width at half maximum(FWHM) out of plane texture of IBAD-MgO template is $4^{\circ}$.

Effects of Growth Rate and III/V Ratio on Properties of AlN Films Grown on c-Plane Sapphire Substrates by Plasma-Assisted Molecular Beam Epitaxy

  • In this study, we investigate the effect of Al/N source ratios and growth rates on the growth and structural properties of AlN films on c-plane sapphires by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Both growth rates and Al/N ratios affect crystal qualities of AlN films. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) values of ($10{\bar{1}}5$) X-ray rocking curves (XRCs) change from 0.22 to $0.31^{\circ}$ with changing of the Al/N ratios, but the curves of (0002) XRCs change from 0.04 to $0.45^{\circ}$ with changing of the Al/N ratios. This means that structural deformation due to dislocations is slightly affected by the Al/N ratio in the ($10{\bar{1}}5$) XRCs but affected strongly for the (0002) XRCs. From the viewpoint of growth rate, the AlN films with high growth rate (HGR) show better crystal quality than the low growth rate (LGR) films overall, as shown by the FWHM values of the (0002) and ($10{\bar{1}}5$) XRCs. Based on cross-sectional transmission electron microscope observation, the HGR sample with an Al/N ratio of 3.1 shows more edge dislocations than there are screw and mixed dislocations in the LGR sample with Al/N ratio of 3.5.
