  • Transient and asymmetric density distributions of butane flow have been investigated from laser image signals by developed three-dimensional digital speckle tomography. Moved signals of speckles have been captured by multiple CCD images in three angles of view simultaneously because the flows were asymmetric and transient. The signals of speckle movements between no flow and downward butane flow from a circular half opening have been calculated by a cross-correlation tracking method so that those distances can be transferred to deflection angles of laser rays fur density gradients. The three-dimensional density fields have been reconstructed from the fringe shift signal which is integrated from the deflection angle by a real-time multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART).

  • The blue light emitting diode (LED) structure based on non-polar a-plane (11-20) GaN which was coated TiO2 nanoparticles using spin coating method was grown on r-plane (1-102) sapphire substrates to improve light extraction efficiency. We report on the emission and structural properties with temperature dependence of photoluminescence (PL) and x-ray rocking curves (XRC). From PL results at 13 K of undoped GaN samples, basal plane stacking fault (BSF) and near band edge (NBE) emission peak were observed at 3.434 eV and 3.484 eV, respectively. We also found the temperature-induced band-gap shrinkage, which was fitted well with empirical Varshini's equation. The PL intensity of TiO2 nanoparticles ?coated multiple quantum well (MQW) sample is decayed slower than that of no coating sample with increasing temperature. The anisotrophic strain and azimuth angle dependence in the films were shown from XRC results. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) along the GaN [11-20] and [1-100] directions were 564.9 arcsec and 490.8 arcsec, respectively. A small deviation of FWHM values at in-plane direction is attributed to uniform in-plane strain.

  • Objectives The purpose of this review was to analyze the research trends in clinical research related to pelvic malposition published in Korean medicine journals. Methods We searched articles in Korean databases (OASIS, NDSL, RISS, and KTKP), and sorted the articles by publishing date, pelvic malposition type, field of study, and measurement index. Results 1. 25 original articles and 9 case report articles were reviewed. 2. In recent years, this topic has been studied more frequently, with an increasing number of original articles published. 3. 16 articles analyzed pelvic malposition type. And half of the articles focused on ilium. 4. The original articles have figured out the correlation between pelvic malposition measurement indices and other measurement indices or diseases. 5. Treatment tools, such as chuna therapy, the mckenzie method, devices for correcting malposition, acupuncture were used in the case report articles. 6. 29 measurement indices, such as Ferguson's angle, Ilium shadow measurement, and Iliac height difference were used. Conclusions According to the literature, pelvic malposition is related to other diseases and measurement indices, and manual medicine on pelvic malposition can be effective. However, due to the lack of sufficient empirical evidence from medical articles to support this, further clinical research should be conducted.

  • A study is presented of improved road light design for drivers and pedestrians with the use of a ray- or reverse ray-tracing method. Many existing road lights are unsuitable for drivers and pedestrians because of serious problems such as glare effect or randomicity of illuminated areas. This situation has arisen because in customary design methods the emphasis has been on simple factors such as luminance or electrical power. However a high luminance or electrical power consumption, alone, do not guarantee bright and good road lighting. So we have applied a ray-tracing method to the design of a road light reflector with the goals of ensuring that illuminated objects on the road can be seen more clearly and that the illuminating light is more comfortable for the eyes of drivers and pedestrians. We have set design targets for factors such as the uniformity of lighting on the road area per road light, the shading angles and the continuous luminance uniformity on long lengths of road. For set heights of the eyes of drivers and pedestrians eyes we have calculated a design guideline for the achievement of the above design targets. Then we designed a road light reflector using the reverse ray-tracing approach. Also we have achieved the same luminance on the road with almost half the power consumption, through the reduction of lighty loss. In an ideal design optimum parameters are suggested to be a shading angle of 75 degrees and a luminance uniformity of 0.5 on the road area. This reflector performance is achievable with a 250 watt power consumption ceramic discharge metal light source.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of various techniques on the quality and quantity of instrumentation in curved canals. Instrumentation time was evaluated too. Forty eight canals of resin blocks($35^{\circ}$) were divided into three groups and filed. In group A, 16 blocks were instrumented using a step-back technique with stainless steel(SS) K-file(Mani, Matsutani Seisakusho Co.,Japan). In group B, canals were prepared with SS K-files using the Endo-Angle (Nakanishi Dental MFG.CO.,LTD.,Japan). Group C was prepared using N i-Ti engine-driven instruments (Quantec Series $2000^{TM}$ system). Group A and B were filed from # 5 to # 25 at the apex followed by a 1 mm stepback technique, and the coronal half of the canals were flared with Gates Glidden burs(#2,3,4). Group C was instrumented from # 1 to # 8. After the instrumentation time was measured, canals were filled with India ink, and photographed, which to magnify the canal images 8 times. Using these photographs the apical portions were evaluated And scored from 1 to 4 according to the severity of ledging and zipping. On the same photographs, the area of the coronal two thirds of the canals were measured using a personal computer with the computer program Brain and Digitizer (SummaSketch III). The following results were obtained. 1. Instrumentation time was significantly shorter for group C, as opposed to group A and B(ANOVA, P<0.05). 2. The qualitative evaluation of the apical portions of the canals showed no significant difference between the groups(Kruscal-Wallis, p>0.05). 3. The area removed by group C was significantly smaller than group A and B(ANOVA, P<0.05).

  • Structural damage to an arch dam is often of major concern and must be evaluated for probable rehabilitation to ensure safe, regular, normal operation. This evaluation is crucial to prevent any catastrophic or failure consequences for the life time of the dam. If specific major damage such as a large crack occurs to the dam body, the assessments will be necessary to determine the current level of safety and predict the resistance of the structure to various future loading such as earthquakes, etc. This study investigates the behavior of an arch dam cracked due to water pressure. Safety factors (SFs), of shear and compressive tractions were calculated at the surfaces of the contraction joints and the cracks. The results indicated that for cracking with an extension depth of half the thickness of the dam body, for both cases of penetration and non-penetration of water load into the cracks, SFs only slightly reduces. However, in case of increasing the depth of crack extension into the entire thickness of the dam body, the friction angle of the cracked surface is crucial; however, if it reduces, the normal loading SFs of stresses and joints tractions reduce significantly.

  • The effects of combustion instability on flow structure and flame dynamics with the inlet configurations in a model gas turbine combustor were investigated using large eddy simulation (LES). A G-equation flamelet model was employed to simulate the unsteady flame behaviors. As a result of mean flow field, the change of divergent half angle($\alpha$) at combustor inlet results in variations in the size and shape of the central toroidal recirculation (CTRZ) as well as the flame length by changing corner recirculation zone (CRZ). The case of ${\alpha}=45^{\circ}$ show smaller size and upstream location of CTRZ than those of $90^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ by the development of higher swirl velocity. The flame length in the case of ${\alpha}=45^{\circ}$ is shorter than other cases, while the case of ${\alpha}=30^{\circ}$ yields the longest flame length due to the decrease of effective reactive area with the absence of CRZ. Through the analysis of pressure fluctuation, it was identified that the case of ${\alpha}=45^{\circ}$ shows the largest damping effect of pressure oscillation in all configurations and brings in the noise reduction of 2.97dB, compared to that of ${\alpha}=30^{\circ}$ having the largest pressure oscillation. These reasons were discussed in detail through the analysis of unsteady phenomena related to recirculation zone and flame surface. Finally the effects of flame-acoustic interaction were evaluated using local Rayleigh parameter.

  • The utilization of x-ray for diagnosis and examination is increasing by about 5-15% every year, therefore, it would be mandatory to protect the patients from exposures and so, studies in this field are performed even now. In dental field, the area of irradiation is limited any to the head and neck area, but the irradiated angle is varied following the objected tooth, so the adjacent structures lens and thyroid gland would be fragile to radiation. And the scattered radiation is one of the complicated problems in the protection because of specificity of dental x-ray and its object structures. The author, by using TLD (Thermo luminescent Dosimeter; Teledyne Isotopes-Model 7300, Element; TLD 200(CaF₂:Dy) and Capintec(Capintec Model 192, PM-30 Diagnostic chamber 28㎖ active volume), tried a measurement of air dose distribution of the scattered radiation and the irradiated dose of lens and thyroid gland under the condition of taking the film on the left maxillary molar. The results were as follows: 1. The half value layer of adapted dental x-ray machine was measured, and is 1.44㎜ Al. 2. The time of irradiation on the left maxillary molar in the Alderson Rando Phantom, the measured doses of left and right lens, and thyroid gland were 8,9mR, 1,2mR and 2,8mR. Under the same conditions, the scattered radiation at the distance of 1 meter from the phantom were 84 μR at the front side, 11μR at the back side, 18μR at the right side and 72μR at the left side. 3. Under the same conditions, the dose showed higher value by about 5% in the presence of object(phantom) than in the case of absence.

  • In this paper, the author analyzes direction finding accuracy based on phase comparisons to estimate elevation and azimuth angles of arrival signals. This paper considers the uniform array configurations using four and three elements. In that direction finding structures, I present the analytic expressions for estimated elevation and azimuth angles and then analyze the direction finding errors. And one presents the design guideline of direction finding system in comparison with aspects of accuracy, structure, the number of channels in that structures. The analysis result is similar with simulation one and has difference within $1.2^{\circ}RMS$. From the proposed analysis results, one knows that when SNR is 20 dB and the baseline is half of wavelength, the estimated elevation accuracy of the uniform array using four elements is 1.15 times better than the one of the uniform array using three elements and the estimated azimuth accuracy is same each other. In addition, one knows coning error is eliminated in 2-D direction finding structure.

  • This paper describes the time sharing type high frequency resonant inviter can be used as power of induction heating. This closed inverter can be obtained output frequency three times than switching frequency by composing three unit inviter of conventional Half-Bridge serial resonant inverter in parallel with input power source also, this reduce switching loss because it has ZVS function. The analysis of the proposed circuit is generally described by using the normailized proposed parameters. The principle of basic operating and the its charasteristics are extimated by the parameters such as switching frequency($\mu$), the variation of Phase angle($\phi$) of Phase-shift. Experimental results are presented to verify theoretical discussion. This preposed inverter will be able to be prastically used as a power supply in various fields as induction, heating application, DC-DC converter etc.
