The pressure waves scattered by an infinite cylindrical cavity filled with air in a h0mogeneous medium have been calculated for the incident plane pressure waves. For ka = 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 10 and 20, the scattered pressure waves are plotted., where k is the wave number and a is the radius of the cylindrical hole. As an indicator of the directivity of the scattering pattern, we have defined the angle at which the magnitude of the scattered pressure wave decreases by a half(6 dB) with respect to that of the forward peak scattered pressure wave. This angle depends strongly on the values of ka and the distance r, and the angle can be used for the detection of the location and the size of the cavity in a homogeneous medium.
Polypropylene(PP) films were treated with plasma glow discharge to produce peroxy radicals on the surfaces. The peroxy radicals formed on the PP film surfaces were subsequently used for the graft polymerization of acrylic acid and acrylamide in an aqueous solution by heating, respectively. Introduction of acrylic acid and acrylamide on the PP film could be confirmed by the observation of carbonyl and primary amine absorptions based on carboxylic acid and amide, respectively. And introduction of functional group could be confirmed by weight analysis and ESCA. The water contact angle(90$^{\circ}$) of PP film was constant, irrespective of elapsed time, while plasma-treated and functional monomer-grafted PP films were slowly increased with elapsed time, showing the rearrangement of surface polar groups in air condition. The water contact angle$(90^\circ)$ of PP film was decreased by the plasma treatment$(56^\circ)$ and further decreased by the grafting of acrylic acid$(34^\circ)$ and acrylamide$(37^\circ)$, indicating increased hydrophilicity of the modified surfaces. The water contact angle of plasma-treated PP film increased a little as time elapsing. The half-life periods of surface voltage on acrylic acid-(31sec) and acrylamide-grafted PP(42sec) were significantly decreased when compared to those on PP(950sec) and plasma-treated PP film(241sec). In the experiments using acid, basic and disperse dyes, absorbance and $\Delta{E}$ values of functional monomer-grafted PP films were significantly increased than that of oxygen plasma-treated one.
Wave load prediction at zero forward speed using finite depth Green function is a well-established method regularly used in the offshore and marine industry. The forward speed approximation in deep water condition, although with limitations, is also found to be quite useful for engineering applications. However, analysis of vessels with forward speed in finite water depth still requires efficient computing methods. In this paper, a method for analysis of wave induced forces and corresponding motion on freely floating three-dimensional bodies with low to moderate forward speed is presented. A finite depth Green function is developed and incorporated in a 3D frequency domain potential flow based tool to allow consideration of finite (or shallow) water depth conditions. First order forces and moments and mean second order forces and moments in six degree of freedom are obtained. The effect of hull flare angle in predicting added resistance is incorporated. This implementation provides the unique capability of predicting added resistance in finite water depth with flare angle effect using a Green function approach. The results are validated using a half immersed sphere and S-175 ship. Finally, the effect of finite depth on a tanker with forward speed is presented.

The initial trajectory of a spheroid configuration bobbin for precision guidance has been investigated by analyzing its aerodynamic load and six-degree-of-freedom motion. The effects of changes in the spheroidal head configuration, flow angle and lateral center-of-gravity offset are numerically studied using the commercial software "FLUENT". A wind tunnel test is also conducted to validate the numerical scheme and to examine effect of the Reynolds number on the flow around the bobbin. It is shown that the size of the separation bubble formed on the surface decreases significantly when the Reynolds number is varied between 110,000 and 140,000. At a zero flow angle, an oblate spheroidal head shows relatively moderate rotation while a prolate spheroidal head shows rapid rotation. The bobbin with a spherical head shape has little effect on the flow direction; however, the oblate bobbin is sensitive to the flow angle. The roll motion of the bobbin is greatly influenced by the lateral center-of-gravity offset and maximum dispersion is observed at half of the radius.

In a split beam echo sounder, the transducer design needs to have minimal side lobes because the angular position and level of the side lobes establishes the usable signal level and phase angle limits for determining target strength. In order to suppress effectively the generation of unwanted side lobes in the directivity pattern of split beam transducer, the spacing and size of the transducer elements need to be controlled less than half of a wavelength. With this purpose, a 50 kHz tonpilz type transducer with a half-wavelength diameter in relation to the development of a split beam transducer was designed using the equivalent circuit model, and the underwater performance characteristics were measured and analyzed. From the in-air and in-water impedance responses, the measured value of the electro-acoustic conversion efficiency for the designed transducer was 51.6%. A maximum transmitting voltage response (TVR) value of 172.25dB re $1{\mu}Pa/V$ at 1m was achieved at 52.92kHz with a specially designed matching network and the quality factor was 10.3 with the transmitting bandwidth of 5.14kHz. A maximum receiving sensitivity (SRT) of -183.57dB re $1V/{\mu}Pa$ was measured at 51.45kHz and the receiving bandwidth at -3dB was 1.71kHz. These results suggest that the designed tonpilz type transducer can be effectively used in the development of a split beam transducer for a 50kHz fish sizing echo sounder.

This study was intended to determine the maneuverability of the vessel CHARMBADA. When the rudder angle was at $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, the maximum advance by slow, half and full ahead were varied in the range of 523.6-131.3m, 528.8-177.2m and 530.6-219.7m, respectively. The maximum transfer was 799.9-181.3m, 792.1-232.8m and 807.7-316.9m, respectively. The turning circle ability was better during starboard turning. When the rudder angle was $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, variation in the maximum advances was 392.0m, 245.0m and 153.0m. The maximum transfer was 528.0m, 339.0m and 218.0m, respectively based on the regression equations. As the rudder angle became bigger, the maximum advance or maximum transfer became smaller by the exponential function. The advance inertia took 127sec, 145sec, 181sec each until the vessel speed was 7.0konts, 12.0konts, 17.0konts. The static inertia took 245sec, 269sec, 300sec each until the vessel speed was under 2.0konts and the advance distance was 114.4m, 181.2m, 197.0m each. Accordingly, the static inertia was inclined to increase to scale according to the increase in vessel speed. For the CHARMBADA, the smaller the rudder angle was, the much bigger the turning circle became due to adhesion to the skeg, thereby lowering the vessel's turning ability.
A multi-stage compressor (MSC) is comprised of several impellers installed in the pinion gear shaft driven by a main bull gear. In the pinion shaft, a thrust collar (TC) is installed to support the thrust load. The TC makes the lubrication system simpler in the MSC; therefore, it is widely used in similar kinds of machinery. Typically, TCs are installed on both sides of the bull gear and pressure is developed in the lubricated area by creating a taper angle on the TC and bull gear surface. In the current study, we developed a numerical analysis model to evaluate the performance of the TC considering its design parameters. We sloved the Reynolds equation using the finite element method and applied the half Sommerfeld condition to consider cavitation. Based on the pressure calculated in the lubricated area, we calculated the power loss and minimum film thickness. In addition, we calculated stiffness and damping using perturbation method. We performed parametric studies using the developed model. The results of the analysis show that the maximum pressure presents in the center area of the TC and it increases with the taper angle. The area over which pressure is developed decreases with the taper angle. The results also show that there is an optimum taper angle providing minimum power loss and maximum film thickness. Additionally, the stiffness and damping decrease with the taper angle. As the applied load increases, the power loss increases and the minimum film thickness decreases. However, the stiffness and damping increase with the applied load.

The process optimization of ozone concentration and half life time was investigated in ultra pure water and alkaline solutions for the wet cleaning of silicon wafer surface at room temperature. In the ultra pure water,. the maximum concentration (35 ppm) of ozone was measured at oxygen flow rate of 3 liters/min and ozone generator power over 60%. The half life time of ozone increased at lower power of ozone generator. Additive gases such as $N_2$ and $CO_2$ were added to increase the concentration and half life time of ozone. Although the maximum ozone concentration was higher with the addition of $N_2$ gas, a longer half life time was observed with the addition of $CO_2$. When $NH_4OH$ of 0.05 or 0.10 vol% was added in DI water, the pH of the solution was around 10. The addition of ozone resulted in the half life time less than 1 min. In order to maintain high pH and ozone concentration, ozone was continuously supplied in 0.05 vol% ammonia solutions. 3 ppm of ozone was dissolved in ammonia solutions. The static contact angle of silicon wafer surface became hydrophilic. The particle removal was possible alkaline ozone solutions. The organic contamination can be removed by ozonated ultra pure water and then alkaline solution containing ozone can remove the particles on silicon surface at room temperature.
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of repeated passive movement (RPM) of different velocities on the improvement of knee joint position sense (JPS) in post-stroke patients with hemiplegia, thereby investigate the possibility of clinical application in the initial stage of rehabilitation for patients with post-stroke hemiplegia. Thirteen hemiplegic patients participated in this study. For the subjects' knee JPS tests, a passive angle reproduction test and an active angle reproduction test were performed prior to and after the intervention, which involved 30 repetitions of passive full-range-of-motion flexion and extension exercise of the knee joints at randomized degrees of $0^{\circ}/s$, $45^{\circ}/s$, and $90^{\circ}/s$. Paired t-test analysis was done in order to compare changes in the pre- and post-intervention knee JPS. One-way repeated analysis of variance was used in order to compare changes in JPS after intervention at three different movement velocities. The level of significance was set at .05. The result was that the subjects' post-intervention knee JPS significantly improved after the RPM exercise at a $45^{\circ}/s$ and a $90^{\circ}/s$ relative to the RPM exercise $0^{\circ}/s$ (p<.05). JPS changes with RPM intervention at the rapid velocity of $90^{\circ}/s$ were most increased, suggesting the most effective enhancement in knee JPS is with intervention at the velocity (p<.05). Therefore, RPM intervention at a half or higher velocity improved stroke patients' knee JPS. During the initial stage of rehabilitation for patients with post-stroke hemiplegia, the efficient application of the RPM exercise at a half or higher velocity will be possible.

In this paper, the problem of electromagnetic transmission through slits in two parallel conducting plates which separate two half spaces is considered. The coupled integral equations for the electric field distributions over the slits are developed for the case that the TM polarized plane wave is incident on the slit and solved by the method of moments. The transmitted power beyond the slit-perforated conducting parallel plates is computed in order to check the variations of the coupled power through slits against some parameters such as the incident angle of the TM polarized wave, slit width, lateral distance between two slits, and distance between the conducting plates. When the lateral distance between two slits approaches near the multiples of half wavelengths, the transmission resonance (maximum power transmission) is observed. If the slit width in the incident side is narrow and the distance between conducting plates is small compared to the wavelength, the maximum of transmitted power is observed to be nearly independent of the incident angle and slit width. In addition, the mechanism of the transmission resonance in the present geometry is explained using a simplified geometry and its equivalent circuit.
