Control of an Inverted Pendulum System with a Solid-State Inertial Sensor (반도체형 관성 센서를 이용한 도립진자 제어)

  • This paper presents a method to compensate the drift of solid-state inertial sensors for control applications. A solid-state gyroscope is evaluated via both theoretical and experimental analyses. From the analytical results, a heuristic compensation method for the drift of the gyroscope is proposed. Experimental results on inverted pendulum control show that the proposed method is feasible since compensated signals from the gyroscope are successfully used in the feedback loop to control the inverted pendulum system.

  • There are many position fixing systems in the world from ancient times. But the principles are to compare the position to want to know with the known position already. The position finding system which is not restricted by weather condition and/or electronic apparatus has been sought. The best system is the GPS as far. But the system has the fatal faults as follows; 1. to depend on satellite's accuracy, 2. not to use underwater. This paper is to investigate theoretically position fixing and north finding by using free gyroscope. This paper introduce a position fixing and north finding method by measuring inclination of 2 free gyroscopes. And this system does not depend on the weather condition and underwater condition. What is more, it could use on the planets, if the gravity exits.

Reliability Assessment and Improvement of MEMS Vacuum Package with Accelerated Degradation Test (ADT) (가속열화시험을 적용한 MEMS 진공패키지의 신뢰성 분석 및 개선)

  • We carry out reliability tests and investigate the failure mechanisms. of the wafer level vacuum packaged MEMS gyroscope sensor using an accelerated degradation test. The accelerated degradation test (ADT) is used to evaluate reliability (and/or life) of the MEMS vacuum package and to select the accelerated test conditions, which reduce the reliability testing time. Using the failure distribution model and stress-life model, we are able to estimate the average life time of the vacuum package, which is well agreed with the measured data. After improving several package reliability issues such as prevention of gas diffusion through package, we carry out another set of accelerated tests at the chosen acceleration level. The results show that reliability of the vacuum packaged gyroscope has been greatly improved and can survive without degradation of performance, which is the Q-factor in gyroscope sensor, during environmental stress reliability tests.

  • Strapdown inertial navigation system(SDINS) is a navigational instruments necessary to guide and con- trol a free vehicle. In this study, an error analysis of mechanical parts is carried out for manufacturing a dynamically tuned gyroscope. The errors usually come from the tolerance in machining and assembly. In the error analysis, a criterion to be considered during designing and manufacturing is proposed by quanti- tatively analyzing the effect of DTG performance by tolerances. The theory of dynamic balancing is deduced and unbalance is reduced through experiment.

  • In this paper various types of gyroscope fabricated by micromachining technologies were reviewed. Four common types of gyroscope reported in the past few years are beam, tuning fork, gimbal, and vibrating shell structure made by surface micromachining using sacrificial layer, bulk micromachining using RIE, or electroplating method. In the study of these new gyroscopes, the fabrication methods, advantages and disadvantages of each structure were examined as well as the direction of development in the future.

  • A Signal processor for the open-loop fiber optic gyroscope(FOG) is equipped with a stabilizer to reduce the error due to drift of fiber phase modulator (FPM). The stabilizer is designed to be operated to maintain the ratio of amplitude and phase between harmonics in the FOG signal. When FPM stabilizer is used, the temperature drift of FOG is reduced to less than 0.5 deg/hr in change of 20$^{\circ}C$.

  • A polarization maintaining fiber optic gyroscope was constructed having an optical loss of about 25 dB. Using the earth rotation rate as a reference, the long term stability of better than $3^{\circ}/hr$ and the rms short term noise of $0.6^{\circ}/hr/{\sqrt{Hz}}$ were obtained.

  • This paper presents a design of two gimbal system. One is two axes stabilized platform that is targeted to preserve direction while vehicle that is adhered antiaircraft fire, radar or EOTS is moving. The system maintains stabilization by recovering error using the rate gyro. The other is three axes gimbal system that is intended to simulate various angle movement in space and to test three axes gyroscope. This system determines gyro condition comparing gyro output value with converted motor encoder value.

  • Fiber optic gyroscopes must be a promising technology that can replace conventional mechanical ones based on the principle of inertia of spinning masses. The advantages of fiber optic gyroscopes over mechanical ones include low cost, light weight, compact size and fast turn-on time. We will apply them to fiber optic gyrocompass for ships. Fiber optic gyrocompass for ships requires the north-seeking accuracy of $15^{\circ}$/hr, earth rotation rate, or better. This article introduces the fiber optic gyroscope as rotation sensor in the fiber optic gyrocompass system for ships that is planed to develop in our laboratory.

  • 링레이저 자이로스코프(Ring Laser Gyroscope-이하 RLG)는 비행기, 유도무기, 선박, 지상무기 등의 관성항법장치(Inertial Navigation System)에 사용되는 각속도 센서로서 항체의 위치와 자세 정보를 제공하는 핵심 구성품 중의 하나이다. 각속도 검출 원리는 삼각형 또는 사각형의 공진기에 He과 Ne을 혼합한 이득매질을 사용하여 서로 반대방향으로 회전하는 두 개의 레이저 빔을 발생시켜서 Sagnac 효과에 의해 외부의 회전 입력을 받을 때 서로 다른 광 경로의 차이로 인한 두 빔의 간섭으로 회전각을 검출한다.
