  • In MEMS devices, packaging induced stress or stress induced structure deformation become increasing concerns since it directly affects the performance of the device. In this paper, deformation behavior of MEMS gyroscope package subjected to temparature change is investigated using high-sensitivity $Moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry. Using the real-time $Moir{\acute{e}}$ setup, fringe patterns are recorded and analyzed at several temperatures. Temperature dependent analyses of warpages and extensions/contractions of the package are presented. Linear elastic behavior is documented in the temperature region of room temperature to $125^{\circ}C$. Analysis of the package reveals that global bending occurs due to the mismatch of thermal expansion coefficient between the chip, the molding compond and the PCB.

  • The Ring Laser Gyroscope makes use of the Sagnac effect within a resonant ring cavity of a He-Ne laser and has more accuracy than the other gyros. The Low Earth Orbit satellite for observatory use require the high accuracy Gyro to control and determine the altitude because of the need of payload pointing accuracy. In this paper, The theory of the Path Length Control is explained. The electrical design of Path Length Controller is described. The Design for Path Length Controller is composed of the demodulator, integrator, phase shifter, high voltage amplifier. We apply the circuit to 28cm square ring laser gyro and get the test results.

  • In this paper, signal detection and control circuits for hemispherical resonator gyroscope(HRG) are designed, simulated and tested. HRG is one of the coriolis vibratory gyroscope(CVG) which has very stable quartz hemispherical resonator and shows very precise performance. HRG signals are usually modulated at the several kHz of resonant frequency. So the general control scheme cannot be applied directly because general control schemes mainly focused at low frequency range. Using demodulated and modulated PI control scheme with the signal detection which is presented in this paper, performance of manufactured HRG has tested.

  • The hemispherical resonator gyroscope is a type of vibratory gyroscope, which can measure angle or angular rate, based on its operating mode. This paper deals with the case when the hemispherical resonator gyroscope is operated in angle measurement mode. In angle measurement mode, the resonator pattern angle precesses, with respect to the external rotation input, by the principle of the Coriolis effect, so that the external rotation can be estimated, by measuring the amount of precession angle. However, this pattern angle drifts, due to the manufacturing error of the resonator. Since the drift effect causes degradation of the angle estimation performance of the resonator, the corresponding drift compensation control should be performed, to enhance the estimation performance. In this paper, a mathematical model of the hemispherical resonator gyro is first introduced. By using the mathematical model, a nonlinear observer for imperfection parameter estimation, and the corresponding compensation controller are designed to operate hemispherical resonator gyros, as angle measurement sensors.

  • Gyroscope is a key sensor for inertial navigation system (INS) which is a navigational instrument necessary to guide and control a free vehicle, and an important instrument for defense, aeronautical, and space industries that is and will be actively involved. In this study, design parameters, scale factor and linearity, of torquer which is one of the components of two degree of freedom dynamically tuned gyroscope (DTG) are presented. The magnetic circuit of torquer is so complicated that it is difficult to analyze it with analytic method. Thus these parameters are calculated by using finite element method with analysis of magnetic vector potential for axisymmetric 3-dimension magnetic field.

  • Accurate evaluation of polarization characteristics in the integrated optic chip (IOC) for interferometric fiber optic gyroscope was performed. Spatial distribution of optical wavetrains caused by the polarization parameters such as local polarization cross-coupling and polarization rejection coefficient of the IOC were measured utilizing the path-matched optical coherence domain polarimetry (PM-OCDP). With the analytic model deduced from Jones matrix representation, we could accurately identify the polarization characteristics of the IOC. Both degree of measurement error due to the imperfect equipment conditions in PM-OCDP and birefringence of IOC chip were also characterized.

  • Driving and pick-off using electromagnetic force for a cylindrical vibratory gyroscope is considered. A gyroscope consisting of thin cylindrical vibrating element and electromagnetic drive and pick-off element is designed, fabricated and tested. The results of the proposed pick-off method were compared with the results of the highly precise laser interferometer and eddy current sensor as it was used as the reference standard. Through the experiment, it is verified that the proposed electromagnetic driving and pick-off method can be an effective alternative to conventional electrostatic or piezo-electric methods.

  • DTG(dynamically tuned gyroscope) is a sensor detecting disturbance in angle velocity control loop of EOTS(electro optical tracking system), which is used for the stabilization of gimbal. DTG is classified into rate mode or rate integrated mode according to operating mode. In this paper, basic principles and characteristics of DTG, depending on to operating mode, are compared and the model of rate integrated mode DTG is proposed. Also, the validity of the presented model is verified by computer simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper we confirm the relation between the phases and phase errors of the beat signal at the lock-in region of the amplitude modulation type ring laser gyroscope by numerical calculation. Based on this facts, we, numerically, study the envelopes and magnitudes of the dither noise for statistically summing out the beat signal phase error, and we, experimently, confirm these numerical results. As a result, we find that the dither noise requires the increase gradient and the decrease gradient of the dither amplitudes, and those gradients should be combined with white noise. The magnitude of the dither noise which is satisfied with these requirements should be more than 5 percents of the average dither amplitude.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new ARMA model identification which estimate the parameters to make the current prediction error uncorrelated with the past one. As good properties of the proposed method, we show the uniqueness, consistency of the estimate and asymptotic normality of the estimation error. Via simulation results, we show that the proposed method give good estimates for various systems which have different power spectrum. Moreover, the estimation of gyroscope random errors shows that the proposed method is applicable to the real data.
