  • The purpose of this study is to establish the direction for creating the beautiful and lively space of the reli-gious architecture as a consquence of trying to under-stand the forms of control of the light and the symbolic meaning of the production in the interior space of the re-ligious architecture. The scope of this study has been limited to the natural light and to the establishment of theoretical background by analyzing the essence and method of space formation by the light in a side view of development and psychology and establishing the concept related to the architectur-al space formation of the light as well as researching and analyzing the meaning and the method of production of the light. And at the same time the conclusion has been induced as a guide of verifying theoretical background by analyz-ing the practical use related to the control and the pro-duction of the light through the spot research and the referential materials in a way of case research into 5 do-mestic religious architectures as the subject of research.

  • This paper introduces a branch of qualitative method, called an in-depth interview method. By collecting data from the stories of Korean middle school students and a 9th grade American girl who used Geometer's Sketchpad and various software respectively for their mathematical problem solving, the qualitative analysis leads us to understand how such software affect their lives with mathematics subject. The unique characteristics and strands of each student's utterances reflect how software plays a role of learning aid for their mathematics learning. The arm of this study is both to get a good picture of each student's self-perceived relationship to mathematics as well as to explore external and objective parameters and factors in each student's internal situations. The qualitative descriptions of the collected data help us guide the students to the points where they could develop their interests and satisfaction with subject matter better. In this way, teachers may have more realistic understandings of how students become interested and motivated by mathematics, so that they are better able to find out ways of grasping the totalities of how the use of technology is interwoven into the school curricular.

  • It is discussed how to determine the home location of idle vehicles in an AGVS with a loop guide path in a way of maximizing the request-call response probabilities for all demand. Optimal home position is selected by solving the simultaneous equations easily. Static positioning strategy is analyzed in which a single home position is allocated to which every vehicle is routed whenever it becomes idle. The cases of unidirectional guidepath is considered only. We provide a numerical example to illustrate the search algorithm developed for the case and compare the searched optimal solutions with the others.

  • Recently, researches on precision machining of nato-order, especially in the field of optical components and semi-conductors have been under development very actively. A accuracy of machining and positioning in a critical issue in ultra-precision machining. This paper proposes a new positioning system which can give excellent dynamic characteristics and reduce errors in horizontal, vertical, pitching, and yawing motions. In this paper, we suggest a connecting mechanism (the couplings) to reduce motion errors such as chatter and runout while preserving the positioning accuracy. We verified the good performance in the new connecting systems with various coupling types, which we classified into the fixed type, the spring type, the aeroctatic-nozzle type, and the aeroctatic-porous type according to the way of reducing the chatter and error.

  • As an influential political leader, Queen Elizabeth II holds the link between past queens and today's women political leaders and her dress represents so much in accordance to her role. It is important to analyze the dress and role enactment of Queen Elizabeth II in order to provide a guide to the future women political leaders all over the world. The Queen's dress helps her show tradition which has developed over one thousand years of history. She represents Britain to the world focusing on national identity and unity. The Queen always distinct herself from the rest of the world to show the pride of British Monarch, but when she is visiting other counties for diplomatic relationships she would surely show a friendly gesture on her dress to assimilate herself with that country. Also, same as all other women, the Queen seeks practicality in her dress. Therefore, I was able to classify the Queen's dress into jive groups as a way of role enactment. They are tradition, representation, distinction, assimilation, and practicality.

  • This paper proposes a new position detection method for train speed control using the PDOA(Phase Difference of Arrival). This method aims to apply to AGT(Automated Guide way Transit) systems, operated with driverless. So it is absolutely required to range, calculate and decide a train position precisely. This system consists of VRS (Vehicle Radio Set) and WRS(Wayside Radio Set). The VRS transmits a wireless signal to the WRS, the controller calculate a straight line with the PDOA. Next step calculate an exact position using track DB. This paper includes the concept, configuration, analysis and results of this method.

  • Recently, right rail transit (L.R.T.) systems become influential as a new traffic system in urban area to solve heavy traffic problems. However, there are little research results about the dynamic interaction problems between the vehicle and structural system, even though some studies far those static problems have been carried out. Therefore, first of ail, the dynamic equations of an interaction between vehicle system and surface roughness of the vehicle path are derived before developing the dynamic equations of vehicle-structure-surface roughness system, in this study. As a vehicle model, an automated guide-way transit (A.G.T.) system is adopted. Parametric study shows that the dynamic wheel loads of the vehicle system has a tendency to increase with vehicle speeds and stiffness of suspension system. However, those dynamic wheel loads have tendencies to decrease in according to loads of the vehicle system.

  • The increasing use of nano-positioners in a wide variety of laboratory and industrial applications has created a need for nano-mechatronics education in all engineering disciplines. The subject of nano-mechatronics is broad and interdisciplinary. This article focuses on the way nano-mechatronics is taught in department of mechanical engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). As one model of nano-positioning systems, design and experimental methodology is presented in this article. For design phase, the stiffness and resonant frequencies are found analytically and verified by using a commercial finite element analysis program. Next, for experimental phase, various tests are performed to access the performances of the designed nano-positioner, for example, sine-tracking, multi-step response and travel-range check etc. Finally, the definition of 'separation frequency' is described and some comments are discussed.

  • Mold design is a knowledge-intensive decision making process where product designer, injection molding engineer as well as mold designer affect each other. Representation and management of design knowledge is a prerequisite for an intelligent design system, which aims to guide and support designer to carry out design activity in more efficient way by avoiding or minimizing unnecessary trial and errors. This paper discusses the issues in knowledge-based mold design, and describes the structure of a knowledge-based mold design system fur parts with micro features under development.
