Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate clinical studies on the effect of acupuncture, moxibustion, and manual therapy in pediatric growth by analyzing randomized controlled trials conducted in China. Methods We searched the clinical studies from the China Academic Journal (CAJ) in China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) by specific key words and criteria. Selected 31 clinical studies were collected and analyzed. Results Total of 31 randomized controlled trials were selected and analyzed. In most of the studies, the effectiveness of acupuncture, moxibustion, and manual therapy on growth was significantly high. The most commonly used therapies were massage. The most commonly used massage methods were pinching spine (捏脊), pressing and kneading $Z\acute{u}s\bar{a}nl\check{i}$ (按?足三里), supplementing $P\acute{i}j\bar{i}ng$ (補脾經), supplementing $Sh\grave{e}nj\bar{i}ng$ (補腎經), rubbing Abdomen (摩腹), pushing $Y\check{o}ngqu\acute{a}n$ (推涌泉), supplementing $F\grave{e}ij\bar{i}ng$ (補肺經), kneading $T\grave{a}iy\acute{a}ng$ (?太陽), and kneading $Sh\acute{e}nqu\grave{e}$ (?神闕) etc. Conclusions Based on the results of the clinical studies from China, acupuncture, moxibustion, and manual therapy can be a valuable option for pediatric growth.

Osteochondroma is a bone tumor with cartilaginous growth potential that generally appears near the growth plate of long bones in areas such as hip, knee, and shoulder joints, related to the nature of endochondral ossification and it is known a common benign bone tumor. However, it has been very rare in craniofacial region possibly because craniofacial bone is largely formed by intramembranous ossification. Moreover, reports on the solitary type of osteochondroma in mandibular condyle has been extremely rare. Osteochondroma in mandibular condylar may show various symptoms similar to general temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs), such as pain in the condylar area during mouth opening, internal derangement, facial asymmetry or posterior open bite. Therefore, it can be disregarded for a long time period without any adequate treatment. Surgical excision has been the treatment option for the solitary osteochondroma with very low recurrence rate reportedly. In this case report, a rare case of solitary osteochondroma developed in unilateral mandibular condyle is presented with emphasis on differential diagnosis with general TMDs.
Background:The aim of the research was to explore a cost effective, fast, easy to perform, and sensitive method for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation testing. Methods: High resolution melting analysis (HRM) was introduced to evaluate the efficacy of the analysis for dectecting EGFR mutations in exons 18 to 21 using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues and plasma free DNA from 120 patients. Results: The total EGFR mutation rate was 37.5% (45/120) detected by direct sequencing. There were 48 mutations in 120 FFPE tissues assessed by HRM. For plasma free DNA, the EGFR mutation rate was 25.8% (31/120). The sensitivity of HRM assays in FFPE samples was 100% by HRM. There was a low false-positive mutation rate but a high false-negative rate in plasma free DNA detected by HRM. Conclusions: Our results show that HRM analysis has the advantage of small tumor sample need. HRM applied with plasma free DNA showed a high false-negative rate but a low false-positive rate. Further research into appropriate methods and analysis needs to be performed before HRM for plasma free DNA could be accepted as an option in diagnostic or screening settings.
Primordial follicle activation is a process in which individual primordial follicles leave their dormant state and enter a growth phase. While existing hormone stimulation strategies targeted the growing follicles, the remaining dormant primordial follicles were ruled out from clinical use. Recently, in vitro activation (IVA), which is a method for controlling primordial follicle activation, has provided an innovative technology for primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) patients. IVA was developed based on Hippo signaling and phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN)/phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/forkhead box O3 (FOXO3) signaling modulation. With this method, dormant primordial follicles are activated to enter growth phase and developed into competent oocytes. IVA has been successfully applied in POI patients who only have a few remaining remnant primordial follicles in the ovary, and healthy pregnancies and deliveries have been reported. IVA may also provide a promising option for fertility preservation in cancer patients and prepubertal girls whose fertility preservation choices are limited to tissue cryopreservation. Here, we review the basic mechanisms, translational studies, and current clinical results for IVA. Limitations and further study requirements that could potentially optimize IVA for future use will also be discussed.
Background: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis in children often leads to facial deformity, functional deficit, and negative influence of the psychosocial development, which worsens with growth. The treatment of TMJ ankylosis in the pediatric patient is much more challenging than in adults because of a high incidence of recurrence and unfavorable growth of the mandible. Case report: This is a case report describing sequential management of the left TMJ ankylosis resulted from trauma in early childhood. The multiple surgeries including a costochondral graft and gap arthroplasty using interpositional silicone block were performed, but re-ankylosis of the TMJ occurred after surgery. Alloplastic TMJ prosthesis was conducted to prevent another ankylosis, and signs or symptoms of re-ankylosis were not found. Additional reconstruction surgery was performed to compensate mandibular growth after confirming growth completion. During the first 3 years of long-term follow-up, satisfactory functional and esthetic results were observed. Conclusions: This is to review the sequential management for the recurrent TMJ ankylosis in a growing child. Even though proper healing was expected after reconstruction of the left TMJ with costal cartilage graft, additional surgical interventions, including interpositional arthroplasty, were performed due to re-ankylosis of the affected site. In this case, alloplastic prosthesis could be an option to prevent TMJ re-ankylosis for growing pediatric patients with TMJ ankylosis in the beginning.
Mixotrophic microalgal growth gives a great premise for wastewater treatment based on photoautotrophic nutrient utilization and heterotrophic organic removal while producing renewable biomass. There remains a need for a control strategy to enrich them in a photobioreactor. This study performed a series of batch experiments using a mixotroph, Chlorella sorokiniana, to characterize optimal guidelines of mixotrophic growth based on a statistical design of the experiment. Using a central composite design, this study evaluated how temperature and light irradiance are associated with $CO_2$ capture and organic carbon respiration through biomass production and ammonia removal kinetics. By conducting regressions on the experimental data, response surfaces were created to suggest proper ranges of temperature and light irradiance that mixotrophs can beneficially use as two types of energy sources. The results identified that efficient mixotrophic metabolism of Chlorella sorokiniana for organics and inorganics occurs at the temperature of $30-40^{\circ}C$ and diurnal light condition of $150-200{\mu}mol\;E{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. The optimal specific growth rate and ammonia removal rate were recorded as 0.51/d and 0.56/h on average, respectively, and the confirmation test verified that the organic removal rate was $105mg\;COD{\cdot}l^{-1}{\cdot}d^{-1}$. These results support the development of a viable option for sustainable treatment and effluent quality management of problematic livestock wastewater.

Three experiments were conducted with broilers to study the effects of early feed restriction. In all studies, treatments were represented by three replicated floor pens, each containing 20 birds. In Experiment 1, broilers were fed at 0.75 kcal ME/g BW/sup0.67 for 3 d, 1.5kcal m/E BW/sup0.67 for 5 d or 2.25 kcal ME/g BW/sup0.67 for 7 d, all imposed beginning at 7 d of age. Birds were smaller following feed restriction(P<0.05), although growth compensation occurred, and at 49 d all restricted birds were same(P>0.05) to full-fed control buds in body weight. Growth compensation was associated with improved feed conversion(P<0.05), although carcass composition was unchanged. In a second study, all birds were fed at 0.75 kcal ME/g BW/sup0.67 for 3 or 5 d, starting at either 4, 7, or 10 d of age. When feed restriction was applied for shorter periods of time, growth compensation occurred(P>0.05). With more severe feed restriction, birds were smaller(P<0.05) at 49 d compared to control. Feed conversion was improved following prior feed restriction(P<0.05, 4 to 49). In a third trial, broilers were fed a starter diet diluted with 50% rice hulls. Birds failed to consume enough of this diluted feed, and so were initially smaller, However 49 d weight was not affected (P>0.05). When periods of 24 h feed withdrawal were imposed in conjunction with the diluted diets, birds were under weight at 49 d. It is concluded that physical feed restriction at 0.75 to 1.5 kcal ME/g BW$\^$0.67 imposed for 3 to 5 d in the early life currently presents the best option as a means of controlling broiler growth so as to improve feed efficiency.

The objective of this study is three-fold: to investigate the relationship between information technology (IT) investment and inventory turnover, using 98 U.S. firms spanning eleven years (from 1999 to 2009); to analyze the correlation of inventory turnover with firm and industry characteristics, where vertical integration and growth options are chosen to reflect the features of the firm's internal characteristics, and industry dynamism and industry concentration are selected to represent the industry's competitive environment; and to examine time trends in inventory turnover. The significant findings include the following: (i) both IT investment and growth options have a positive impact on inventory turnover; (ii), but vertical integration and industry concentration have a negative impact on inventory turnover; (iii) the impact of industry dynamism on inventory turnover positive; and (iv) the time trends in inventory turnover and 'adjusted inventory turnover' have been increased during the sample period from 1999 to 2009.

Background: The Ross/Ross-Konno procedure is considered a good option for irreparable aortic valve disease in pediatric patients because of its hemodynamic performance and potential for growth of the pulmonary autograft. This study is a review of the long-term results of our 20-year experience with the Ross and Ross-Konno operations in a single institution. Methods: Between June 1995 and January 2016, 16 consecutive patients (mean age, $6.0{\pm}5.9years$; range, 16 days to 17.4 years) underwent either a Ross operation (n=9) or a Ross-Konno operation (n=7). The study included 12 males and 4 females, with a median follow-up period of 47 months (range, 6 to 256 months). Results: There were no cases of in-hospital or late mortality. Six reoperations were performed in 5 patients. Four patients underwent right ventricular-pulmonary artery (RV-PA) conduit replacement. Two patients underwent concomitant replacement of the pulmonary autograft and RV-PA conduit 10 years and 8 years after the Ross operation, respectively. The rate of freedom from adverse outcomes of the pulmonary autograft was 88% and 70% at 5 and 10 years, respectively. The rate of freedom from valve-related reoperations was 79% and 63% at 5 and 10 years, respectively. Conclusion: Pulmonary autografts demonstrated good durability with low mortality. The Ross/Ross-Konno procedure is a good option that can be performed safely in pediatric patients with aortic valve disease, even in a small-volume center.
Climate change, a result of increasing global warming, has been receiving more public attention due to its serious impact upon many industries. In this study we consider sustainable- (Green-) Growth and Green-Finance, and in particular temperature derivatives, as appropriately active responses to the world's significant climate change trends. We characterize the daily average temperatures in Seoul, South Korea with their seasonal properties and cycles of error terms. We form forecasting models and perform Monte Carlo simulations, and find that the risk-neutral values for CDD call-options and HDD put-options have risen since 1960s, which implies that the trend of temperature increase can be quantified in the financial markets. Contrary to the existing models, the Vasicek model with the explicit consideration of cycles in the error terms suggests that the significant option-values for the CDD call -options above certain exercise prices, implying that there is the possibility of explicit hedging against the considerable and stable increase in temperature.
