This study was conducted to evaluate an efficiency of plant growth regulator trinexapacethy(Primo) on the growth response of bentgrass and the change to soil water content in bentgrass green. Based on the results of the study, the following results were observed. 1. During four weeks after treatment, the visual color and turfgrass density of all the treated plots with trinexapac-ethyl(Primo) were more improved rather than without. Two treatments trinexapac-ethyl /$0.02mL\m^2$ and $0.04mL/\m^2$ were more favorable than other treatments. 2. It suggested that optimum rate to reduce the bentgrass growth and to increase the turfgrass density was the trinexapac-ethyl $0.04mL/\m^2$. 3. For six weeks after treatment, all treated plots were not significantly different (P<0.05) in turfgrass root length and root dry weitht. 4. In the treated plots with trinexapac-ethyl $0.04mL/\m^2$ for 25days in bentgrass green, soil water consumption was approximately 35% to 40% compare to the non-treated control.

This experiment was carried out to study an effect of liquid fertilizer contained amino acids(LFcAA) on the growth of Bentgrass(Agrostis palustris Huds. penncross) and the change of soil chemicals characteristics. In tested soil, the utilization rate of nitrogen in treatment was more than control. Fresh weight, dry weight and concentration of T-N, Mg and chlorophyll were increased in grass treated LFcAA. These results suggested that treatment of LFcAA was promoted utilization of nitrogen in soil and growth of bentgrass.
Pink snow mold, caused by Microdochium nivale, is a major disease on cool season turfgrasses in golf courses in northern Unites States. The relative susceptibility of 17 commercial cultivars of three bentgrass species (creeping, colonial and velvet bentgrass) to Microdochium nivale and the aggressiveness of M. nivale eight isolates obtained from infected turfgrasses on golf courses in Wisconsin were evaluated under controlled conditions. For the field trial, susceptibility of 2 year-old 12 commercial bentgrass cultivars was evaluated after inoculating three M. nivale isolates in the fields. There were significant differences in disease severities among the three bentgrass species, particularly between tetraploids (creeping and colonial) and diploid (velvet) species, and among cultivars within each species, indicating that there are varying levels of susceptibility in species and cultivars to M. nivale. Host resistance by days of cold hardening was confirmed, by detecting the resistance by 30 days of cold hardening treatments. In field trial, susceptibility of 12 bentgrass cultivars was highly correlated to the results obtained from growth chamber experiments. The positive correlation of the susceptibility between growth chamber experiments and field trials demonstrates that the growth chamber method is a useful technique for saving time, space and labor to evaluate efficiently pink snow mold susceptibility of bentgrass cultivars. This study could be applied to evaluating susceptibility of bentgrass to pink snow mold and also predicting a prospective evaluation of bentgrass cultivars to pink snow mold in fields in a breeding program.
This experiment was carried out to study an effect of liquid fertilizer contained amino acids(LFcAA) on the growth of bentgrass(Agrostis palustris Huds. penncross) and the change of soil chemicals characteristics. The utilization of nitrogen in soil was increased more 70.6∼90.1% in the treatment of LFcAA than in control. Fresh weight, dry weight and concentration of T-N, Mg and chlorophyll were increased in grass treated LFcAA. These results suggested that treatment of LFcAA was promoted utilization of nitrogen in soil and growth of bentgrass.

This study examined the growth performance and field evaluation of the dual herbicide-resistant transgenic creeping bentgrass plants. The effect of glyphosate treatment on the herbicide resistance of the transgenic creeping bentgrass plants was determined, and the non-transgenic control plant withered at the concentration $11{\mu}g/mL$ or higher whereas the transgenic creeping bentgrass plants survived the treatment at the concentration of $3,000{\mu}g/mL$, and the increase of the plant length was repressed as the glyphosate treatment concentration was increased. At field evaluation, glufosinate-ammonium and glyphosate were simultaneously treated to investigate the weed control effect. The results showed that more than 90% of the weeds withered four week after herbicide treatment, while the transgenic creeping bentgrass plants continued to grow normally. Therefore, the dual herbicide-resistant creeping bentgrass plants may be able to greatly contribute to the efficiency of weed control and to the economic feasibility of mowing in places such as golf courses.
The objective of this study was to observe the differences in growth of creeping bentgrass turf to 'polymer coated urea fertilizer' and 'uncoated urea fertilizer', and to analyze durability of fertilizer effect with the 'polymer coated urea'. The experiment was initiated on June 3, 1996, at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station, north of Ames, Iowa. The experiment was conducted on an area of 'Penneagle' Creeping bentgrass(Agrostis palustris) maintained at fair-'way mowing height (1.3cm). The study was repeated at the same arrangement beginning on July 25, 1996. Visual quality data, clipping fresh and dry weight, and nitrogen(N) content in the clippings were taken weekly. Quality of the turf increased with increasing N rate. While quality ratings were higher for turf receiving polymer coated urea than for turf receiving uncoated urea at several times following treatment, but not significant. Fresh and dry clipping weights were quite variable during the trial. Visual quality rating and clipping yields improved with increasing rates of N but these differences were not statically significant between polymer coated and uncoated urea treatment. The durability of fertilizer efficiency in polymer coated urea was not last longer compare with uncoated urea from two weeks after treatment. Higher rates of N application increased the concentration of N in tissue but no significant differences between turf plots receiving polymer coated and uncoated urea. Key words: Polymer coated urea, Creeping bentgrass, Fertilizer, Turfgrass.
This experiment was carried out in order to study the effect of nitrogen fertilization on the growth of Colonial bentgrass and thatch accumulation under no removing clipping residues. Nitrogen fertilization was applied as 4 levels, 10, 20, 25 and 20gN/m$^2$, respectively. The results were as follows : 1.Response of plant length and dry weight of thatch to N fertilization were significant differences between N levels. It suggested that N fertilization with no clipping residues greatly affected to the growth and thatch accumulation of colonial bentgrass.2.Plant length, the dry weight of clipping residues and coverage were obtained the highest values at 20g N. It was assumed that 20gN/m$^2$ is the limiting N level to obtain the favorable growth of Colonial bentgrass. 3.The dry weight of thatch and lignin content were increased with high nitrogen fertilization level. 4.The dry weight of thatch indicated positive significant correlation with lignin content. 5. The dry weight of thatch per N(THg/N) at 20g~25g/m$^2$ levels were obtained the lowest values than of other levels of N. It may be due to the stimulating of microbial activity by adequate to N fertilizers which increased mineralization of thatch.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of mixing ratio of soil amending materials such as peat. perlite, active carbon, and zeolite on the growth and quality of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis pa1ustris var. Penncross). The results of this experiment were surnrnarized as follows; 1.Nitrogen content of clippings was increased by the treatment of peat and active carbon. hut the other phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium content were increased in addition of,5% to 10% of peat, and 2.5% to 5% of active carbon. 10% of perlite. and 4% of zeolite 2.Fast growth and good quality of bentgrass were showed at the addition of 10% peat. l0% perlite.2.5~% active carbon, and 4% zeolite But over treatment of peat and active carbon induced inhi-bition of root growth and occurrence of disease.
The influence of calcium on the growth of creeping bentgrass 'Penn-Al', perennial ryegrass 'Palmer II', Kentuckuy bluegrass 'Nassou' and tall fescue 'Boonsai 2000' in greenhouse was investigated. Creeping bentgrass 'Penn-A1', Kentucky bluegrass 'Nassou' and tall fescue 'Boonsai 2000' at Ca 4.0 me/L, and perennial ryegrass 'Palmer II' at Ca 2.0 me/L showed the best shoot growth. Creeping bentgrass 'Penn-A1', perennial ryegrass 'Palmer II' and Kentucky bluegrass 'Nassou' at Ca 1.0 me/L, and tall fescue 'Boonsai 2000' at Ca 4.0 me/L showed the best root growth, and there was little or no difference between different Ca concentrations. Creeping bentgrass 'Penn-Al' and Kentucky bluegrass 'Nassou' at Ca 4.0 mea, and perennial ryegrass 'Palmer II' at Ca 1.0 me/L had the highest number of tillers, and tall fescue 'Boonsai 2000' at Ca 4.0 me/L had the highest, but there was no difference between different Ca concentrations. As application rate of Ca concentration became higher, the concent of Ca in plant tissue increased, while the content of Mg in plant tissue decreased, and the content of Fe in plant tissue increased to Ca 4.0 me/L. The Ca treatment had not effect on N, p, K, and Zn of tissue content. The wick pot applied will be to research of plant nutrition in future because utilization of wick pot has an excellent precision and convenience.
The effect of proline, glutamine, aspartic acid and their combinations on callus induction and embriogenic callus formation from 3 creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) cv. Regent, Mariner, Cato and 1 colonial bentgrass (Agrostis tenuis) cv. Tiger was estimated in both light and dark condition. The addition of amino acids to the growth medium did not have a significant stimulatory effect on the induction of embryogenic callus, instead, they were inhibitory, particularly at higher concentration (40 mM). But supplement of amino acids at lower concentrations (5 or 10mM) to basal medium was beneficial in inhibiting the formation of hairy outgrowth on the surface of embryogenic callus.
