  • Maritime transport has been occupying the biggest part of the container transportation market. With regard to container terminal management, the planning technology and the space allocation system on the yard are very significant factors to secure the stability of ship and to ensure the reliability of schedules of ship throughout keeping barycenter of vessel by right loading and fast handling of cargoes. The purposes of this paper are to illustrate the existing yard management systems such as Grouping method and Random Grounding method, and then to evaluate and compare the efficiency of yard availability between the existing management system(Grouping method) and Random Grouping which uses the forecasted inbound cargo volume at the gate by Time Base Operation.

  • This study presents the optimal grouping technique of columns which groups together columns of similar shortening trends to improve the efficiency of column shortening compensation. Here, Kohonen's self-organizing feature map which can classify patterns of input data by itself with unsupervised learning was used as the optimal grouping algorithm. The Kohonen network applied in this study is composed of two input neurons and variable output neurons, here the number of output neuron is equal to the column groups to be classified. In input neurons the normalized mean and standard deviation of shortening of each columns are inputted and in the output neurons the classified column groups are presented. The applicability of the proposed algorithm was evaluated by applying it to the two buildings where column shortening analyses had already been performed. The proposed algorithm was able to classify columns with similar shortening trends as one group, and from this we were able to ascertain the field-applicability of the proposed algorithm as the optimal grouping of column shortening.

  • Recently, recommender systems have been widely applied in E-commerce websites to help their customers find the items what they want. A recommender system should be able to provide users with useful information regarding their interests. The ability to immediately respond to the changes in user's preference is a valuable asset of recommender systems. This paper proposes a novel recommender system which aims to effectively adapt and respond to the immediate changes in user's preference. The proposed system combines IEC (Interactive Evolutionary Computation) with a content-based filtering method and also employs data grouping in order to improve time efficiency. Experiments show that the proposed system makes acceptable recommendations while ensuring quality and speed. From a comparative experimental study with an existing recommender system which uses the content-based filtering, it is revealed that the proposed system produces more reliable recommendations and adaptively responds to the changes in any given condition. It denotes that the proposed approach can be an alternative to resolve limitations (e.g., over-specialization and sparse problems) of the existing methods.

  • In this paper, a joint cell grouping and user association technique proposed for a semi-dynamic grouped network MIMO in a clustered heterogeneous cellular network (HCN). With the conventional macro BSs, small cells are being overlaid to increase a spectral efficiency per area and these small cells are expected to be concentrated to support exponentially increasing data traffic in hot spot areas. The main culprits of performance degradation in the clustered HCN are interference and load imbalance. The proposed scheme jointly handles them to maximize a proportional-fair metric. It is shown that the proposed technique can largely improve user average rate and proportional fairness among users than any other conventional schemes in the clustered HCN.

  • This paper presents a novel generalized quadrature spatial modulation (GQSM) transmission scheme using antenna grouping. The proposed GQSM scheme combines QSM and conventional spatial multiplexing (SMux) techniques in order to improve the spectral efficiency (SE) of the system. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed transmission scheme has minimal losses in terms of the average bit error probability along with the advantage of an increased SE compared with previous SM and QSM schemes. For the case studies, this advantage represents a reduction of up to 81% in terms of the number of required transmit antennas compared with QSM. In addition, a detection architecture based on the ordered successive interference cancellation scheme and the QR decomposition is presented. The proposed QRD-M adaptive algorithm showed a near-maximum-likelihood performance with a complexity reduction of approximately 90%.

  • The laboratory animal group separation is dividing animal population into subgroups, which have similar average and standard deviation values among the subgroups, based on the biological characteristics such as body weight, glucose level in blood, etc. Although group separation is very important and initial step in experimental design, it needs a labor intensive process for researchers because of making similar average and standard deviation values among the subgroups using the raw biological characteristics. To reduce the labor cost and increase the efficiency of animal grouping, we developed a web program named as laboratory animal group separation (LAGS) program. This LAGS uses biological characteristics of population, number of group, and the number of elements per each subgroup as input data. The LAGS automatically separates the population into each subgroup that has similar statistical data such as average and standard deviation values among subgroups. It also provides researchers with the extraordinary data generated in the process of grouping and the final grouping results by graphical display. Through our LAGS, researchers can validate and confirm results of laboratory animal group separation by just a few mouse clicks.

  • In this paper, we propose a Sensing Resolution-based Grouping(SRG) protocol for wireless sensor networks. SRG is intended for meeting the application's sensing objectives, where sensor nodes are densely deployed and have the determinate accuracy requirement. The primary contribution of this paper is active group header node selection and round-robin procedure, which increase the sensing accuracy and evenly distribute the node energy consumption. The second contribution is use of energy efficient intermediate node selection by considering group size and energy consumption. We present the design principle of SRG and provide simulation results.

  • Decision tree algorithm is one of the data mining techniques, which conducts grouping or prediction into several sub-groups from interested groups. This technique can analyze a feature of type on groups and can be used to detect differences in the type of industrial accidents. This paper uses C4.5 algorithm for the feature analysis. The data set consists of 24,887 features through data selection from total data of 25,159 taken from 2 year observation of industrial accidents in Korea For the purpose of this paper, one target value and eight independent variables are detailed by type of industrial accidents. There are 222 total tree nodes and 151 leaf nodes after grouping. This paper Provides an acceptable level of accuracy(%) and error rate(%) in order to measure tree accuracy about created trees. The objective of this paper is to analyze the efficiency of the C4.5 algorithm to classify types of industrial accidents data and thereby identify potential weak points in disaster risk grouping.

  • D2D(Device-to-Device) communication is a promising technology to improve the system capacity and spectral efficiency. By sharing the same radio resources with cellular user equipments, D2D communications can significantly enhance the overall spectral efficiency. However, it may cause interference between D2D link and cellular link. So, careful resource allocation and interference coordination between them are very important and need to be properly handled. This paper proposes a radio resource allocation scheme that decreases interference through the use of area grouping and D2D pair grouping. Simulations results are provided to verify the performance improvement of the proposed scheme in terms of the number of assigned resource blocks and computational complexity.

  • The increasing size of very large scale integration (VLSI) circuits, high transistor density, and popularity of low-power circuit and system design are making the minimization of power dissipation an important issue in VLSI design. Test Power dissipation is exceedingly high in scan based environments wherein scan chain transitions during the shift of test data further reflect into significant levels of circuit switching unnecessarily. Scan chain or cell modification lead to reduced dissipations of power. The ETC algorithm of previous work has weak points. Taking all of this into account, we therefore propose a new algorithm. Its name is RE_ETC. The proposed modifications in the scan chain consist of Exclusive-OR gate insertion and scan cell reordering, leading to significant power reductions with absolutely no area or performance penalty whatsoever. Experimental results confirm the considerable reductions in scan chain transitions. We show that modified scan cell has the improvement of test efficiency and power dissipations.
