  • It is widely known that the ultra high frequency (UHF) method that detects the electromagnetic wave of the PD pulses in the gas insulated space is one of the most competitive methods for its high sensitivity. From the above point of view, this paper describes the characteristics of GIS PD signals measured with ultra wide band (UWB) GIS PD defecting system in which PD signals are defected into the dual UHF band. Thc UWB PD detection system consists of the UWB UHF coupler, the UWB low noise amplifier (LNA) and the oscilloscope. The dual bands for PD signals are 0.5-2GHz(full band) and 1-2GHz(high band). As results, it was found that the partial discharges of each defect have their own characteristic pattern and the ratio of High hand to Full band increases with gas pressure.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest a new detection method for early diagnosing diabetic neuropathic foot by obtaining a ratio of toe to figer blood flow using photoplethysmography(PPG). Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) has been routinely used for diagnosing neuropathic foot, but it applies strong electric stimulus to peripheries resulting in stress and pain. The blood flow ratio of diabetic neuropathy(0.96${\pm}$0.20) was significantly higher in comoarison to normal control group(0.46${\pm}$0.15, left : p<0.05, right : p<0.05) and non-neuropathy diabetic group(0.49${\pm}$0.21, left: p<0.05. right: p<0.05).

  • The 2D/E gel analysis for polypeptide expression reflecting I-18 C gene (early-ecdysterone inducible gene) has conducted the emerged C. riparius adults from larval phase exposure to tebufenozide acting as an ecdysteroidal molting hormone. Control group, the amount of ORE II of the I-18 C gene was larger than that of ORE I of this gene. After treatments, ORE I of the I-18 C gene was overexpressed as the polypeptide, whereas ORF II of this gene was expressed as the polypeptide and was clearly reduced expression. Accordingly, we consider that tebufenozide exhibited endocrine disruptions related processing of ecdysteroid receptor protein reflecting ORF II of I-18 C gene. Also, earlier emergence day was related overexpressed polypeptide reflecting ORE I of I-18 C gene. In this study result, tebufenozide induced changing of physiological condition, and then polypeptide expression reflecting early-ecdysterone inducible I-18 C gene was different between control group and exposure group.

  • Sunspots usually appear in a group which can be classified by certain morphological criteria. In this study we examine the moments which are statistical parameters computed by summing over every pixels of contours, in order to quantify the morphological characteristics of a sunspot group. The moments can be additional characteristics to the sunspot group classification such as McIntosh classification. We are developing a program for image processing, detection of contours and computation of the moments using continuum images from SOHO/MDI. We apply the program to count the sunspot numbers from 303 continuum images in 2003. The sunspot numbers obtained by the program are compared with those by SIDC. The comparison shows that they have a good correlation (r=89%). We are extending this application to automatic sunspot classification (e.g., McIntosh classification) and flare forecasting.

  • In this paper, we propose an election protocol based on mobile ad-hoc network. In distributed systems, a group of computer should continue to do cooperation in order to finish some jobs. In such a system, an election protocol is especially practical and important elements to provide processes in a group with a consistent common knowledge about the membership of the group. Whenever a membership change occurs, processes should agree on which of them should do to accomplish an unfinished job or begins a new job. The problem of electing a leader is very same with the agreeing common predicate in a distributed system such as the consensus problem. Based on the termination detection protocol that is traditional one in asynchronous distributed systems, we present the new election protocol in distributed systems that are based on MANET, i.e. mobile ad hoc network.

  • The UWB UHF coupler for GIS PD detection requires a balun (balance to unbalance transformer) to show its inherent UWB characteristics. In order to reduce the size of the balun and to make it practical in the conventional GIS, a novel tapered coaxial balun with a dielectric was proposed for the UWB UHF coupler. The performance of the proposed balun was verified through a series of simulations, measurements and experiments. As a result, both the conventional balun and the proposed balun, which has a length equal to one third of that of the conventional balun, demonstrated good S11 characteristics, whereas the efficiency of the proposed balun increased as much as about 30% in comparison to the conventional one.

  • Neutrino astronomy is now possible as the technology to detect neutrinos has been advancing. Current and planned neutrino-detecting facilities can be operated as a conventional telescope because they can measure the direction toward the celestial sources as well as their physical properties like energy. Together with gravitational wave, neutrino astronomy opens a new field of astronomy, often called, multi-messenger astronomy, which also involves "traditional" electro-magnetic-wave-detection-based astronomy. Expecting that Korean Neutrino Observatory (KNO) will be one of the best neutrino observatories when it is constructed, a group of Korean astronomers and astrophysicists formed a working group and began to investigate possible astronomical neutrino sources that could be detected by KNO and other neutrino observatories. This talk presents the recent activities of the working group and introduces the list of possible neutrino sources.

  • Purpose: Obesity affects dysfunction of Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Ovary(H-P-O) axis. Dysfunction of H-P-O axis could be related to Skin Resistance Variability (SRV). This study investigated the impacts of obesity which related to female age on SRV. Methods: We randomly selected 400 women who had taken CP-6000A test and InBody test on the same day at Oriental Hospital of Sangji University from Jan. 2008 to Jun. 2011. In this study, the Body Mass Index(BMI) range of normal group is 18.5~24.9, obesity group is over 25, the age range of childbearing age group is 24~34 years, post-menopause group is 50~65 years. 139 women that met the criteria of this study were assorted by their BMI and age. After detection of SRV, SPSS 19.0 has conjugated for data analysis and the independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test were used to verify the results. Results: At 1st and 2nd trial, the height of 3 area of childbearing age obesity group was significantly higher than that of childbearing age normal group. At 1st and 2nd trial, the height of 1, 2 area of childbearing age obesity group was higher than that of childbearing age normal group, but there were no significant difference. At 1st and 2nd trial, the height of 1, 2, 3 area of post-menopause obesity group was mostly higher than that of post-menopause normal group, but there were no significant difference. Conclusions: This study showed the SRV of obesity group was higher than that of normal group in most of 1, 2, 3 area. Further study will be needed.
