  • In this paper, we propose a compression method for multi-resolution feature maps for VCM. The proposed compression method removes the redundancy between the channels and resolution levels of the multi-resolution feature map through PCA-based transformation. According to each characteristic, the basis vectors and mean vector used for transformation, and the transformation coefficient obtained through the transformation are compressed using a VVC-based coder and DeepCABAC. In order to evaluate performance of the proposed method, the object detection performance was measured for the OpenImageV6 and COCO 2017 validation set, and the BD-rate of MPEG-VCM anchor and feature map compression anchor proposed in this paper was compared using bpp and mAP. As a result of the experiment, the proposed method shows a 25.71% BD-rate performance improvement compared to feature map compression anchor in OpenImageV6. Furthermore, for large objects of the COCO 2017 validation set, the BD-rate performance is improved by up to 43.72% compared to the MPEG-VCM anchor.

  • Purpose: In the past, detection of metabolic abnormalities in plasma amino acid (PAA) and urine organic acid (UOA) has been widely used to diagnose clinical mitochondrial diseases, such as mitochondrial encephalomyopathy with lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes (MELAS). In this study, the diagnostic values of PAA and UOA were reviewed, and their effectiveness in the diagnosis of MELAS was examined retrospectively. Methods: Blood and urine samples at the time of diagnosis were collected from all clinically diagnosed MELAS patients (n=31), and PAA and UOA tests were performed. All samples were collected in a fasting state to minimize artifacts in the results. The difference in the ratio of abnormal metabolites of PAA and UOA at initial diagnosis was statistically compared between the MELAS with genetic confirmation (n=19, m.3243A>G mutation) and MELAS without genetic confirmation (n=12) groups. The MELAS without genetic confirmation group was used as control. Results: Comparison of PAA and UOA between the two groups revealed that no abnormal metabolites showed characteristic differences between gene-confirmed MELAS patients with and those without genetic confirmation. Conclusions: Abnormal values of metabolites in PAA or UOA might be useful as a screening test but are not sufficient to diagnose MELAS patients.

  • Percutaneous coronary intervention and acute coronary syndrome are both closely tied to the frequently occurring complication of coronary microembolization (CME). Resveratrol (RES) has been shown to have a substantial cardioprotective influence in a variety of cardiac diseases, though its function and potential mechanistic involvement in CME are still unclear. The forty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups randomly: CME, CME + RES (25 mg/kg), CME + RES (50 mg/kg), and sham (10 rats per group). The CME model was developed. Echocardiography, levels of myocardial injury markers in the serum, and histopathology of the myocardium were used to assess the function of the cardiac muscle. For the detection of the signaling of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB along with the expression of pyroptosis-related molecules, ELISA, qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence, and Western blotting were used, among other techniques. The findings revealed that myocardial injury and pyroptosis occurred in the myocardium following CME, with a decreased function of cardiac, increased levels of serum myocardial injury markers, increased area of microinfarct, as well as a rise in the expression levels of pyroptosis-related molecules. In addition to this, pretreatment with resveratrol reduced the severity of myocardial injury after CME by improving cardiac dysfunction, decreasing serum myocardial injury markers, decreasing microinfarct area, and decreasing cardiomyocyte pyroptosis, primarily by blocking the signaling of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB and also reducing the NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Resveratrol may be able to alleviate CME-induced myocardial pyroptosis and cardiac dysfunction by impeding the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and the signaling pathway of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB.

  • The new anti-impotency analogue was identified in food source. Detection of this analogue was accomplished through screening of food samples by liquid chromatography/photodiode array detector. The spectrum pattern of analogue compound was similar to that observed for hongdenafil which was analogue of sildenafil. This new compound was isolated and purified using the liquid-liquid extraction, thin layer chromatography, column chromatography and preparative HPLC. And then those structure were identified using analytical instruments such as HPLC/PDA, LC/MS/MS and NMR. The compound was given a name to oxohongdenafil which was replaced with acetyl oxoethylpiperazinyl residue instead of sulfonyl piperazine group of sildenafil. The regulation for the abovementioned analogue, oxohongdenafil, was established by Standard of Korean food code.

  • Formaldehyde is used in lether manufacture, a dry plate and an explosive. It is by-product of ozonizing process in filtration plant. The effects of exposure are eye pruritus, tickle, runing nose, blocking nasal passages and headache. It also makes a dried throat and causes inflammation. It is classified as B1 group for inhalation by US. EPA, which can cause cancer in human. For analysis of formaldehyde, formaldehydes-DNPH derivative was extracted with solid cartridge and was analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Diode Array Detector (HPLC/DAD). The detection limit was $3{\mu}g/L$ and the recoveries were 72.3~109.1% (RSD 2.9~11.5%). Water samples were collected in four Korean rivers, four times per year seasonally for 10 years from 1998 to 2007. The monitoring results were 48.8% (630/1291), $5.15{\sim}101.9{\mu}g/L$ in purified water. Because of non-carcinogen in drinking water, hazard index is calculated with RfD. Results of excess cnacer risk was below 1 and was considered as safe value.

  • As awareness of the problem of global warming emerges around the world, the role of carbon sinks in settlement is increasingly emphasized to achieve carbon neutrality in urban areas. In order to manage carbon sinks in settlement, it is necessary to identify the current status of carbon sinks. Identifying the status of carbon sinks requires a lot of manpower and time and a corresponding budget. Therefore, in this study, a map predicting the location of trees was created using already established tree location information and Sentinel-2 satellite images targeting Seoul. To this end, after constructing a tree presence/absence dataset, structured data was generated using 16 types of vegetation indices information constructed from satellite images. After learning this by applying the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model, a tree prediction map was created. Afterward, the correlation between independent and dependent variables was investigated in model learning using the Shapely value of Shapley Additive exPlanations(SHAP). A comparative analysis was performed between maps produced for local parts of Seoul and sub-categorized land cover maps. In the case of the tree prediction model produced in this study, it was confirmed that even hard-to-detect street trees around the main street were predicted as trees.

  • Drone light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is a state-of-the-art surveying technology that enables close investigation of the top of the mountain slope or the inaccessible slope, and is being used for field surveys in mountainous terrain. To build topographic information using Drone LiDAR, a preprocessing process is required to effectively separate ground and non-ground points from the acquired point cloud. Therefore, in this study, the point group data of the mountain topography was acquired using an aerial LiDAR mounted on a commercial drone, and the application and accuracy of the cloth simulation filtering algorithm, one of the ground separation techniques, was verified. As a result of applying the algorithm, the separation accuracy of the ground and the non-ground was 84.3%, and the kappa coefficient was 0.71, and drone LiDAR data could be effectively used for landslide field surveys in mountainous terrain.

  • This study was performed to establish the epidemiological features of a food poisoning outbreak that occurred in the cafeteria of a company in Chungcheongnam-do Province, Korea, in October 2020, and to recommend measures to prevent similar outbreaks. Twenty-one patients with acute gastroenteritis, three food handlers, seven cooking utensils, and 12 preserved food samples were subjected to viral and bacterial analyses based on procedures described in the "Manual for Detection of Foodborne Pathogens at Outbreaks". Among 135 individuals who had been served the meals, 21 (15.6%) showed symptoms of nausea and vomiting within an hour of consuming the food. Bacillus cereus were isolated from 11 (52.4%) of the 21 patients, one food service employee, one item of cooking ware, and 12 preserved food samples. In addition, we confirmed the toxin genes CER, nheA, and entFM from the isolated B. cereus strains. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis results indicated that all of the isolated B. cereus strains were closely related, with the exception of strains obtained from one patient and one sample of preserved food. These findings provide evidence to indicate that the isolated B. cereus originated from preserved foods and an unhygienic eating environment. This outbreak highlights that the provision of food in non-commercial food systems must be thoroughly managed. In addition, it emphasizes the necessity for the correct and timely identification of causal pathogens for tracing the cause of food poisoning outbreaks, and the need to preserve food under appropriate conditions. To prevent similar cases of food poisoning, it is necessary to investigate cases based on an epidemiological approach and share the findings.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to propose a deep-learning model for the detection of the mandibular canal on dental panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods: A total of 2,100 panoramic radiographs (PANs) were collected from 3 different machines: RAYSCAN Alpha (n=700, PAN A), OP-100 (n=700, PAN B), and CS8100 (n=700, PAN C). Initially, an oral and maxillofacial radiologist coarsely annotated the mandibular canals. For deep learning analysis, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) utilizing U-Net architecture were employed for automated canal segmentation. Seven independent networks were trained using training sets representing all possible combinations of the 3 groups. These networks were then assessed using a hold-out test dataset. Results: Among the 7 networks evaluated, the network trained with all 3 available groups achieved an average precision of 90.6%, a recall of 87.4%, and a Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 88.9%. The 3 networks trained using each of the 3 possible 2-group combinations also demonstrated reliable performance for mandibular canal segmentation, as follows: 1) PAN A and B exhibited a mean DSC of 87.9%, 2) PAN A and C displayed a mean DSC of 87.8%, and 3) PAN B and C demonstrated a mean DSC of 88.4%. Conclusion: This multi-device study indicated that the examined CNN-based deep learning approach can achieve excellent canal segmentation performance, with a DSC exceeding 88%. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of considering the characteristics of panoramic radiographs when developing a robust deep-learning network, rather than depending solely on the size of the dataset.

  • Objective: The liver plays a dual role in regulating temperature and immune responses. Examining the influence of heat stress (HS) on liver T cells contributes significantly to understanding the intricate interplay between the immune system and hepatic tissues under thermal stress. This study focused on investigating the characteristics of the T-cell receptor (TCR) β chain CDR3 repertoire in bovine liver samples under both HS and pairfed (PF) environmental conditions. Methods: Sequencing data from six samples sourced from the GEO database underwent annotation. Utilizing immunarch and VDJtool software, the study conducted comprehensive analyses encompassing basic evaluation, clonality assessment, immune repertoire comparison, diversity estimation, gene usage profiling, VJ gene segment pairing scrutiny, clonal tracking, and Kmers analysis. Results: All four TCR chains, namely α, β, γ, and δ, were detected, with the α chains exhibiting the highest detection frequency, followed closely by the β chains. The prevalence of αβ TCRs in bovine liver samples underscored their crucial role in governing hepatic tissue's physiological functions. The TCR β CDR3 repertoire showcased substantial inter-individual variability, featuring diverse clonotypes exhibiting distinct amino acid lengths. Intriguingly, HS cattle displayed heightened diversity and clonality, suggesting potential peripheral T cell migration into the liver under environmental conditions. Notably, differential VJ gene pairings were observed in HS cattle compared to the PF, despite individual variations in V and J gene utilization. Additionally, while most high-frequency amino acid 5-mers remained consistent between the HS and PF, GELHF, and YDYHF were notably prevalent in the HS group. Across all samples, a prevalent trend of high-frequency 5mers skewed towards polar and hydrophobic amino acids was evident. Conclusion: This study elucidates the characteristics of liver TCR β chain CDR3 repertoire under HS conditions, enhancing our understanding of HS implications.
