Ice and water droplets rise and fall above the freezing altitude under the effects of strong updrafts and downdrafts, grow into hail, and then fall to the ground in the form of balls or irregular lumps of ice. Although such hail, which occurs in a local area within a short period of time, causes great damage to the agricultural and forestry sector, there is a paucity of domestic research toward predicting hail. The objective of this study was to introduce Land-Atmosphere Modeling Package (LAMP) hail prediction and measure its performance for 50 hail events that occurred from January 2020 to July 2021. In the study period, the frequency of occurrence was high during the spring and during afternoon hours. The average duration of hail was 15 min, and the average diameter of the hail was 1 cm. The results showed that LAMP predicted hail events with a detection rate of 70%. The hail prediction performance of LAMP deteriorated as the hail prediction time increased. The radar reflectivity of actual cases of hail indicated that the average maximum reflectivity was greater than 40 dBZ regardless of altitude. Approximately 50% of the hail events occurred when the reflectivity ranged from 30~50 dBZ. These results can be used to improve the hail prediction performance of LAMP in the future. Improved hail prediction performance through LAMP should lead to reduced economic losses caused by hail in the agricultural and forestry sector through preemptive measures such as net coverings.
Aralia elata (Miq.) SEEM is a deciduous shrub that has attracted attention as a high-income forest product. To improve the efficiency of cultivation and increase income, productivity according to the pruning period and annual pruning after harvesting Aralia elata shoots was analyzed. The optimal time was determined by pruning five times at 2-week intervals from 6 days after shoot harvesting. To investigate the pruning effect, pruning was performed at 30 cm from the ground in the first year after planting. From the second year after planting, branches grown for 1 year were pruned to 10 cm, and the annual shoots and branches were compared. Thenumber of first pruned branches after 6 days was 1.3-2.1 times higher after shoot harvesting than at other times, and the shoot characteristics were 1.2-1.7 times better than those at other periods. The faster the pruning, the better the quality of the harvested shoots. Annual pruning produced high-quality shoots (approximately 1.5 cm in diameter and 16 cm in length) from the second year after planting, and it was possible to increase productivity by inducing generation of branches capable of harvesting shoots. Annual pruning also made it possible to maintain easy shoot harvesting at approximately150 cm. These results showed that it was efficient to perform Aralia elatapruning as early as approximately 6 days after shoot harvesting. Pruning enabled production ofuniform-quality shoots every year and increasedthe yield of the trees.

Recently, as underground space safety issues such as sink hole, ground subsidence and damage to old underground facilities have been increasing in urban areas, the precise management of underground facilities ins more required. Thus, this study developed a function to that, visualize on Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information a real-time survey data of underground facilities acquired on site or underground facility survey data acquired through on-site survey after underground facility exploration and developed a function convert to surveying-results. In addition, using the on-site survey performance utilization function in connection with the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information developed through this study, the surveying -results obtained with the Total-station at the water pipeline burial construction site in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul are visualized on the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information and On-site verification was performed by converting spatial-information performance files and transmitting the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information to the mobile center. Based on this, it was possible to verify the work procedure using the surveying-results in the area where the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information was built, and to review the direction of future improvement directions.
This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the seedling growth and nutrients uptake at 45 day seedlings in cytoplasmic genetic male sterile lines(HR7028A, IR54756A), their restore line (Yongmoonbyeo) and check variety (Changsungbyeo). Hybrid rices had longer and more roots, heavier dry weight and lower shoot /root ratio than their parents and inbred check variety, showing heterobeltiosis in absorbed amount of inorganic elements, content of total sugar, starch and chlorophyll in plant. Different magnitude of heterobeltiosis were shown between F$_1$ hybrid rices with the same restore line; HR7028A/Yongmoonbyeo had higher heterobeltiosis than IR54756A/Yongmoonbyeo did. Hybrid rices had more number and higher $\alpha$-naphthylamine oxidizing ability of newly-grown roots in 10 day sand culture in ground water with root-cut 45 day-seedling than parental lines and inbred variety. Nunber of the newly-grown roots were positively and significantly correlated with content of total sugar, starch and absorbed amount of inorganic elements in the shoot, and content of chlorophyll in the leaf.
In this study, considering the difficulties for all farms to convert farm styles to animal welfare-based housing, an experiment was performed to observe the changes in the behavior and welfare of sows when the slat floor was changed to a collective breeding ground. Twenty-eight sows used in this study were between the second and fifth parities to minimize the influence of parity. Using a flats floor cover, the flattening rates were treated as 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. Data collection was the behavior of sows visually observed using a camera (e.g., standing, lying, fighting and excessive biting behaviors, and abnormal behaviors) and the animal welfare level measured through field visits. Lying behavior was found to be higher (p < 0.01) as the flattening rate increased, and sows lying on the slatted cover also increased as the flattening rate increased (p < 0.01). Fighting behavior wasincreased when the flattening rate was increased to 20%, and chewing behavior was increased (p < 0.05) as the flattening rate increased. The animal welfare level of sows, 'good feeding', it was found that all treatment groups for body condition score and water were good at 100 (p < 0.05). 'Good housing' was the maximum value (100) in each treatment group. As the percentage of floor increased, the minimum good housing was increased from 78 in 0% flattening rate to 96 in 50% flattening rate. The maximum (100) 'good health' was achieved in the 0% and 20% flattening rates, and it was 98, 98, and 99 in the 30%, 50%, and 40% flattening rate, respectively. 'Appropriate behavior' score was significantly lower than that of other paremeters, but when the flattening ratio was 0% and 20%, the maximum and minimum values were 10. At 40% and 50%, the maximum values were 39 and 49, respectively, and the minimum values were analyzed as 19 for both 40% and 50%. These results will be used as basic data about sow welfare for farmers to successfully transition to group housing and flat floors.

To maximize the medicinal properties of bellflower root (Platycodi radix), its growth and development according to soil texture were investigated using four types of soil: masato (decomposed granite), soil mix, loamy sand, and sandy loam. Saponin content was measured. With regard to bellflower root growth depending on soil texture, its growth was better in the order of loamy sand > sandy loam > soil mix > masato in the above-ground part, and loamy sand > soil mix > sandy loam > masato in the underground part in the order. The average content of general ingredients were 77.3% water, 2.6% crude fat, 3.2% crude flour, 6.0% crude protein, and 10.9% carbohydrates. With respect to saponin analysis of bellflower roots, the saponin content regarding platycodin D, platycodin D3, polygalacin D, and deapioplatycodin D were higher in the order of 282.4, 104.7, 29.1, 19.1 mg/100 g, respectively. The content of organic matter and phosphoric acid was high in soil mix and sandy loam, and platycodin D3 showed similar levels in all soil types. As a result, the soil mix is considered most suitable in terms of yield and component levels, however, it is the most expensive type. As a replacement, sandy loam was adequate in terms of fresh weight related to yield and highest saponin content.
Modeling of artificial targets in Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR) mainly simulates radar signals reflected from the faces and edges of the 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) model with a ray-tracing method, and modeling of the clutter on the Earth's surface uses a method of distinguishing types with similar distribution characteristics through statistical analysis of the SAR image itself. In this paper, man-made targets on the surface and background clutter on the terrain are integrated and made into a three-dimensional (3D) point cloud scatterer model, and SAR image were created through computational signal processing. The results of the SAR Stripmap image generation of the actual automobile based SAR radar system and the results analyzed using EM modeling or statistical distribution models are compared with this 3D point cloud scatterer model. The modeling target is selected as an bridge because it has the characteristic of having both water surface and ground terrain around the bridge and is also a target of great interest in both military and civilian use.

This study conducted interviews with former and current managers of Cheongwadae landscape architecture to provide basic information necessary to preserve, manage, and utilize Gyeongbokgung Palace's back garden, and the main conclusions summarized are as follows. First, the topography changed a lot with the construction of the main building and the official residence under President Roh Tae-woo. The water system was connected to Gyeongbokgung Palace in the past, but is now disconnected. Second, in the case of planting, the most important principles were the president's security and protocol, and accordingly, trees were placed or managed. Trees were planted by introducing excellent trees in various regions, and wildflowers and ground cover plants were frequently replaced according to the season. Third, facilities and roads were arranged for the president's protocol, hobbies, and workers' rest, and fire-fighting facilities were installed to prevent disaster in the forest area of Baegaksan Mountain. Fourth, the biggest inflection point of Gyeongbokgung Palace's back garden during Cheongwadae period was the change in topography due to the new construction of the main building and official residence during President Roh Tae-woo, the removal of A and B barbed wire fences that separated space during President Roh Moo-hyun, and the extensive landscaping carried out for the G20 Summit under President Lee Myung-bak. The area of Gyeongbokgung Palace's back garden is expected to face another inflection point due to the opening of Cheongwadae on May 10, 2022, and the work of evaluating the historical, academic, and landscape values of Gyeongbokgung Palace's back garden should be carried out while preserving the status.

South Korea has recently witnessed an increasing number of seismic events, leading to a surge in studies focusing on seismic earth pressures, as well as the attributes of geological layers and ground where foundations are established. Consequently, earthquake-resistant design has become imperative to ensure the safety of subterranean structures. The slurry wall method, due to its superior wall rigidity, excellent water resistance, and minimal noise and vibration, is often employed in constructing high-rise buildings in urban areas. However, given the separation between panels that constitute the wall, slurry walls possess limited resistance to seismic loads in the longitudinal direction. As a solution, several studies have probed into the possibility of interconnecting slurry wall panels to augment their seismic performance. In this research, we developed and evaluated a method for linking slurry wall panels using mechanical joints, including concrete-confined steel pipes and headed bars, through mock-up tests. We also assessed the constructability of the suggested method and compared it with other analogous methods. Any challenges identified during the mock-up test were discussed to guide future research in resolving them. The results of this study aid in enhancing the seismic performance of slurry walls through the development of an interconnected panel method. Further research can build on these findings to address the identified issues and improve the efficacy and reliability of the proposed method.

The performance of innovative prestressed support (IPS) earth retention system applied in soft clay was investigated and presented. The IPS wale system provides a high flexural stiffness to resist the bending by lateral earth pressure, and transfers lateral earth pressure to strut supports. The IPS wale system provides a larger spacing of support than conventional braced and anchored systems. The IPS earth retention system was selected for temporary earth support in a building construction in North Busan area. The excavation was made 28.8 m wide, 52.0 m long, and 16.1 m deep through loose fill to soft clay. The IPS system consists of 650 mm thick slurry walls, and five levels of IPS wales and struts. Field monitoring data were collected including wall deflections at six locations, ground water levels at four locations, IPS wale deflections at thirty locations, and axial loads on struts at twenty locations, during construction. The IPS earth retention system applied in soft clay performed successfully within a designed criterion. Field measurements were compared with design assumptions of the IPS earth retention system. The applicability and stability of the IPS earth retention system in soft clay were investigated and evaluated.
