For the tunnel pattern of PD-3, a numerical analysis using the FEM program, MrSoil, was conducted with given geotechnical properties of surrounding rockmasses to verify the analysis results by comparing with other programs. The analyzed domain was extended to the far enough distance from the excavation surface to avoid the restrained effect by the boundary condition, and the construction sequence was employed in the analysis as calculation steps to simulate the time dependent 3 dimentional behavior of surrounding ground due to tunneling. Maximum 35 mm of the tunnel crown settlement and about 13 mm of the surface settlement were computed and the amount of settlement may not give any structural damage on the concrete structures on the ground surface. The shotcrete stress of 84 kg/cm2 and the rockbolt axial force of 9 ton as a maximum are within the allowable limit. The plastic zone was restricted near the excavation surface, but forepoling around the crown may be required to prevent rock falling. It is believed that the tunnel is designed reasonablely from the economical and safety points of view.
The experiment of model soil structures has been executed for the soil retaining wall in various conditions of excavation, in this study, to analyze the behavior of the corner of opening. The ground for experiment has been constituted with the sandy soil of relatively loose density, the construction condition has been divided into the opening length of corner, embedded depth, existence of strut, etc., and the excavation has been carried out for 4 stages in total. The behavior characteristics at the corner of opening area has been verified by concentrate analysis of the displacement of wall and the subsidence of ground surface, for each construction and excavation condition, using the measuring instrument mounted inside the model soil structure. In the result of experiment, it has been analyzed that the opening area of corner is unstable structurally compared to the linear area, as it shows that the wall displacement and subsidence of ground surface have been increased when the opening length of corner gets longer. The longer the embedded depth, ground surface settlement of coner was decreased 40%. To apply deeper embedded depth than designed estimate was an advantage in the safety. As a result of the analysis of coner behavior with added struts, maximum surface settlement and maximum horizontal displacement was evaluated 40% and 30%, respectively. Hence increased embedded depth with the added struts in coner edge was effective in the safety.

Backfill injection pressure in shield TBM affects not only ground settlement but also adjacent underground structures. Therefore, it is essential to estimate a suitable backfill injection pressure in advance in design stage. In this paper, seven suggested equations worldwide to calculate the backfill injection pressure were reviewed and compared. By assuming 6 cases of virtual ground condition, backfill injection pressures were calculated and analyzed. it was confirmed that the backfill injection pressure increases as the depth of overburden increases, but the increasing ratio decreases. The numerical analysis was carried out by applying the calculated backfill injection pressure to investigate the influence of backfill injection pressure on the settlement of surface and crown of tunnel. It was confirmed that the final settlement at the surface and crown of tunnel on the both unsaturated and saturated condition are more influenced by the applied face pressure than the applied backfill injection pressure. In addition, the effect of backfill injection pressure decreases as the depth of overburden increases, and the effect of backfill injection pressure increases as the applied face pressure decreases.

This study aims to experimentally investigate ground settlement and ground movement around the square pipe by its penetration in sandy ground. A series of laboratory model tests were carried out with a small-scale auger equipment for penetration of a square pipe as well as a newly designed test box with a sand raining equipment. From the experiments, it is shown that a square pipe induces ground movement evenly around it in a low overburden condition. However, as the overburden becomes higher, ground movement by a square pipe is concentrated mainly above it. Especially, horizontal strain above the square pipe was mainly dominated by its penetration. In addition, sand surface movement is the smallest in case of the dimensionless penetration rate equal to 0.2. When its penetration rate of the square pipe is fixed, the rotation speed of auger controls surface movement whether it is settlement or heaving. Therefore, the selection of an optimal dimensionless rate for the square pipe is a key design factor to minimize ground settlement in a trenchless construction.

For the soft ground construction, the factors not considered in the design stage occurs in the construction stage so that they cause the increase of the construction cost due to the structural stability and the design change. The subject of the study is the construction section of the industrial complex access road made in the Ochang region of Chungcheongbuk-do. The study is concerned with selecting the soft ground handling method such as the replacement method using rock debris and the surcharge reflecting the service load as the soft ground handling measure and analyzing the effect of reducing the construction cost with the stability of structures and the reduction of the construction period. The soft ground in the study section consists of sandy and cohesive soil and is 2.4m to 5.5m deep. It is distributed unevenly between the 1.5m to 5.9m stratums under the ground surface. Settlement is not serious, but the future uneven settlement and difference are expected so that the future settlement behavior is estimated by analyzing the site measurement results after the soft ground treatment. Moreover, in consideration of the regional characteristics and economic efficiency, soil with good quality is replaced with rock debris as the replacement material so that 29% of the construction cost is reduced due to the increase of stability and the reduction of duration. If the estimation of the dispersion of the pore water pressure within the dam body and the change of the underground water level and the relation of the actually measured soft ground with consolidation is studied further on the basis of the study, it is expected that the behavior of the soft ground will be correctly estimated in various site conditions.
During and after the construction of embankment on soft ground, consolidation settlements and lateral displacements develop. But generally it's very difficult to predict the magnitude of lateral deformations and the correct distribution of lateral displacements with depth under the toe of embankment because the consolidation and the shear deformations of soft ground occur simultaneously. This study shows that later displacements of ground surface arise by embankment loading act on soft clay hight water contents in laboratory model testing. The results of model test are observed settlement of embankment, amount of maximum rising and displacement of ground surface with loading velocity. The formula were proposed to predict lateral movement by test series.
The failure mechanism of tunnel roof is investigated with upper bound theorem of limit analysis. The stochastic settlement and nonlinear failure criterion are considered in the present analysis. For the collapse of tunnel roof, the surface settlement is estimated by the simplified stochastic medium theory. The failure curve expressions of collapse blocks in homogeneous and in layered soils are derived, and the effects of material parameters on the potential range of failure mechanisms are discussed. The results show that the material parameters of initial cohesion, nonlinear coefficient and unit weight have significant influences on the potential range of collapse block in homogeneous media. The proportion of collapse block increases as the initial cohesion increases, while decreases as the nonlinear coefficient and the unit weight increase. The ground surface settlement increases with the tunnel radius increasing, while the possible collapse proportion decreases with increase of the tunnel radius. In layered stratum, the study is investigated to analyze the effects of material parameters of different layered media on the proportion of possible collapse block.

There are a number of risks in constructing tunnel-structures. Therefore, the precise and rapid observation about inside deformation of the tunnel is required to prevent these risks from occurring and to secure safety. But currently, the real situation is that the crown settlement, cavity deformation and ground surface settlement rely upon the universal mensuration which uses total station or various kinds of measuring instruments. Recently, according to improvement and progress of measuring technology, three-dimensional laser scanning is used as the method to provide data for maintaining structures. It solves the reliability problem of measuring method for the transformational volume of existing structures, provides data that enables to judge visually by three-dimensioning the shape change of structures and makes it possible to deliberate speedy countermeasure. And it can also be efficiently used in the structure maintenance and field measurement.

In case of an urban tunnel, the displacement of ground base controls the tunnel design because it is built on shallow and unconsolidated ground many times. There are more insufficiency to describe the ground movement which coincides in the measured result of the situ because the design of an urban tunnel is dependent on the method of numerical analysis used to the existing elastic and elasto-plastic models. We studied about the prediction for the ground movement of a shallow tunnel in unconsolidated ground, mechanism of collapse, and settlement. Also this paper shows comparison with the existing elastic and elasto-plastic model using the unlinear analysis of the strain-softening model. We can model the real ground movement as the increasement of ground surface inclination or occurrence of shear band by using strain-softening model for the result of ground movement of an urban NATM tunnel.
This study analyzed ground settlement and ground stress depending on tunnel excavation and the ground reinforcing grouting methods for double line road tunnel through deep weathered zone. Diameter of double line road tunnel was approximately 12m and umbrella arch method and side wall reinforcing grouting were applied. The ring-cut split excavation method and CD-cut excavation method for excavation method were applied. Analyses of failure rate and vertical stress ratio show that the tunnel for which the height of the cover (H) was higher than four times the diameter, can be considered a deep tunnel. Comparisons of various excavation and ground reinforcement methods showed that CD-cut method results in lower surface and crown settlement, and lower failure rate than that obtained by Ring-cut split method. In addition, the side wall reinforcing grouting resulted in reduction of tunnel displacement and settlement.
