  • Recently, it has been reported that number of earthquakes was rapidly increased in the Korean Peninsula. According to the interest of seismic analysis, most of construction design must ensure the stability of structure against risks due to earthquake. Therefore, the ground reinforcement and application of seismic standards is necessary and the new structures must secure a stability about Earthquake under the Korea Seismic Analysis Standards. In this study, the 2D numerical analysis was performed to confirm a seismic stability and analysed that behavior of ground and dykes. The numerical seismic response analyses for dykes and its foundation soil were conducted with considering earthquake modes of short-period and long-period, and artificial seismic wave.

  • A dynamic stability test was performed to determine dynamic stability derivatives for the pure pitching motion of air-to-ground missile model in the low speed wind tunnel. The free vibration technique was employed to acquire oscillation characteristics of the model for damping coefficients. Damping coefficients are obtained by the method of logarithmic decrement. Results show good damping effects and stability capability at Mach numbers 0.1 and 0.2, with the angle of attack ranging from -15 to +20 degrees.

  • This study was carried out to examine the tree-ring growth characteristics of Zelkova serrata Makino after replanting, for the built-up planting founds for stability of landscaped trees in the reclaimed land from the sea. the factors, many affecting the growths of Zelkova serrata Makino, were the replanting stress and drought. The growth reduction due to replanting and drought occurred in the replanting year and the following year. The mean sensitivity(year-to-year variation) and the coefficient of variation(tree-to-tree variation in a certain year) in tree rings of Zelkova serrate Makino, were higher in the poor soil sites than in the favourable soil ones. And the poor soil sites were the filled ground of improve soil and the covered ground of improve soil and the top ground of big mounding than mounding ground sites, especially soil hardness, alkali soil, high $Na^+\;and\;K^+,\;low\;Ca^{++}\;and\;Mg^{++}$ and T-C were the most crucial. We suggest technique development of the built-up planting ground for stability in the reclaimed land from the sea. The built-up planting grounds in reclaimed land from the sea, should be considered for the use of fair soil with the physical and chemical soil properties, -high level foundation of planting ground, and the prevention of disturbed soil-.

  • This study was carried out to predict the future technology on the prevention and reclamation of mining induced subsidences in Korea. We summarized the technical improvement of ground surveys and investigation, ground stability assessment, ground reinforcement, ground monitoring system and so on. It is essential to improve the technology that we try to collect and review all the data that is implemented on the site of mined area in Korea and collaborate all the members of public and private business sectors. We, also, try to expand our business area to related industry such as tunnelling, civil infrastructure, underground environmental assessment etc, and continue to develop oversea's market.

  • The practical usage of underground space and demand for vehicular tunnels necessitate the construction of non-circular wide rectangular tunnels. However, constructing large tunnels in soft clayey soil conditions with no ground improvement can lead to excessive ground deformations and collapse. In recent years, in situ ground improvement techniques such as jet grouting and deep cement mixing are often utilized to perform cement-stabilisation around the tunnel boundary to prevent large deformations and failure. This paper discusses the stability characteristics and failure behaviour of a wide rectangular tunnel in cement-treated soft clays. First, the plane strain finite element model is developed and validated with the results of centrifuge model tests available in the past literature. The critical tunnel support pressures computed from the numerical study are found to be in good agreement with those of centrifuge model tests. The influence of varying strength and thickness of improved soil surround, and cover depth are studied on the stability and failure modes of a rectangular tunnel. It is observed that the failure behaviour of the tunnel in improved soil surround depends on the ratio of the strength of improved soil surround to the strength of surrounding soil, i.e., qui/qus, rather than just qui. For low qui/qus ratios, the stability increases with the cover; however, for the high strength improved soil surrounds with qui >> qus, the stability decreases with the cover. The failure chart, modified stability equation, and stability chart are also proposed as preliminary design guidelines for constructing rectangular tunnels in the improved soil surrounded by soft clays.

  • For the cases of constructing reinforced earth and gabion walls on the soft ground, an appropriate replacement area of soft ground required to maintain the stability of walls was investigated by FEM analyses. Incremental analyses were performed in FEM, in which construction sequences including consolidation of soft soil layer were simulated. As a first step to suggest the appropriate replacement area, a series of analyses for cases varying the replacement depth were conducted to examine the behaviors of wall and adjacent ground according to the construction sequence. The analysis results were, then, evaluated with the proper limiting values of displacements of wall, settlements and shear strains of ground to guarantee the stability of walls, which were specified based on the literature review. Consequently, the typical construction drawings could be suggested, in which appropriate replacement areas for varying wall heights for the ground condition investigated in this study were represented in terms of the ratio of replacement depth to the height of wall.

  • Fresh ground pork was irradiated with the electron beam, and the microbiological and oxidative stability of ground pork was examined during refrigerated and frozen storage. During both storage, with the increase in the irradiation dose from 0 to 3.0 kGy, the inhibition effect of the growth of the total aerobic bacteria and the mesophiles also increased. Psychrotrophic bacteria were not detected at all in the whole experiment. On the other hand, electron beam irradiation promoted the oxidative rancidity of ground pork during refrigerated and frozen storage. The catalytic effect of oxidation was more pronounced with the electron beam dose of 3.0 than that of 1.5 kGy. As a result, the control of lipid oxidation must be achieved to fully utilize the sterilization effect of electron beam in the ground pork.

  • A reliability analysis method is proposed in this paper to quantitatively evaluate the risk for internal stability of a quay wall constructed on the deep cement mixed ground, differentiating from the companion paper that mainly describes the external stability. Failure modes for toe pressure, shear strength of improved ground and extrusion of unimproved soft soil are investigated and compared in the risk estimation of internal stability using MVFOSM, FORM, and MCS. From the reliability analysis results for internal stability of a quay wall, the variance and distribution type of the compressive strength of Deep Mixed Soil-Cement appear to be very affective to the failure probability. On the other hand, other random variables seem to be relatively very insensitive to the probability of failure. It is therefore very important to rationally and accurately determine the probabilistic properties of the in-site compressive strength of Deep Mixed Soil-Cement.

  • The effects of taping on the use of such measures for prevention have already been comprehensively described in the literature. However, few studies have analyzed ground reaction forces and postural stability with functional ankle instability subject during dynamic activities with ankle taping The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of ankle taping on ground reaction force and postural stability during jump landing. Fourteen players who has ankle instability were participated in this study. we used vicon and force platform. The application of taping who has ankle instability decreased DF and inversion angular velocity and peak vertical ground reaction force during landing. It also improved A-P cop, M-L cop in stability. The findings of this study support the use of taping as part of injury prevention for subject with functional ankle instability in clinical setting.
