Compaction Grouting System, the method which makes ground compact by injection of low slump mortar, Is widely used for reinforcement of soft ground, restoration of structures happened differential settlement, underpinning and restoration of damaged dam core. The quantitive analysis of ground improvement for this method has not performed yet. So, design parameters about thls method must be studied through performance of CGS in various types of soil to make CGS adaptable widely. In this study PBT, SPT and field density test were performed for analysis of the characteristics of ground improvement and pressuremeter and inclinometer were installed for analysis of the characteristics of compaction in adjacent ground. In this paper, denoted much effects for filled ground that increasing of the bearing capacity, confirming the displacement of adjacent ground and the effective radius of injection.

In generally, grouting consists of injecting a suspension or solution into the voids of soils. The low slump mortar grout has been used in America since 1950's. The Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff under relatively high pressure, form a cylinderical grout support pile. The grout generally does not enter soil pores but remains in homogeneous mass that gives controlled displacement either to compact loose soils, or for lifting of structures, or both. In this paper, on the case of the reinforcement construction of 00 plant that the foundation's bearing capacity is insufficient and is to reinforce the foundation, a study has been peformed to analyze the effectiveness of the ground improvement. The bearing capacity of the Compaction Pile has been verified by the S.P.T and the settlement of the improved ground has been monitored rising the magnetic extensometer.

CGS(Compaction Grouting System) is widely used in reinforcement of structural foundation and ground improvement in soft ground. But the effects of ground improvement depending on the type of soil must be studied in order to adopt in various soils (granular soil and cohesive soil). In this study, characteristics of ground improvement (the increase of N value, increase in unit weight, vertical displacement on the ground surface) by CGS method was compared through two cases that were performed in granular and cohesive soil. The results show that the closer to the grout hole, the more increase in N value and this trend appear distinctly in granular soil. Unit weight of ground increase largely near by the grout hole and decrease in far from it independently of the soil type. The vertical displacement on the ground surface appeared in smaller area in case of granular soil than cohesive soil.

While the Grouting has been used to reinforce the foundation of structures in wide range of application, there need complementary measures against problems such as pollution, durability, influence on the adjacent structures. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. In this paper, on the basis of the case history constructed in this year, a study has been performed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting, Also, the effectiveness of the ground improvement and the bearing capacity of the Compaction Pile has been verified by the S.P.T and core strength.

The use of Compaction Grouting evolved in 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has been developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major applications of Compaction Grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other applications include preventing liquefation, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. In this paper, on the basis of the case history constructed in this year, a study has been performed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting. Also, the effectiveness of the ground improvement and the bearing capacity of the Compaction Pile has been verified by the Cone Penetration Test(CPT) and Load Test. Relatively uniform Compaction grouting column could be maintained by planning the Quality Control in the course of grouting. And, the Quality Control Plan has been conceived using grout pressure, volume of grout and drilling depth.
By the countermeasure which is caused by with railroad station ground settlement it applied a CGS in each independent foundation. The effectiveness of the ground improvement and the bearing capacity of the compaction pile has been verified by the Cone Penetration Test(CPT) and Load Test. Test result show that penetration resistance and the cone friction force increased a lot and settlement 13.475mm as the standard settlement 40.0mm appeared at below. Also uniaxial compression test result $278kg/cm^2$ as the standard $150kg/cm^2$ appeared far a lot.
Bearing capacity of soil can be improved by several conventional ground improvement techniques like stabilization and compaction. In recent time, the use of reinforced soil has become popular due to the availability of durable strong geosynthetic materials. In this papers, through the laboratory model tests on sandy ground reinforced by mats about the strip footing under plane strain condition, the effects of bearing capacity improvement and behaviour of sandy ground were observed. And bearing capacities calculated by proposed method and measured by tests were compared.
This study confirms reinforcing effect of geosynthetics in the use of soil at higher water contents as a compaction material on compaction tests, field compaction tests, and numerical analysis. To verify a confined effect, a large mold(area ratio of rammer / mold = 0.19) larger than D compaction mold(area ratio of rammer / mold = 0.33) was performed for compaction. It showed that in the D compaction test, dry density were 0.5~0.6% increases and in the compaction test using the large mold, it were 2.4~3.7% increases at high water contents. It shows that when the area of compacted area is large enough, a confined effect could be arising from the reinforcement of geosynthetics even at high water contents. As a result of analyzing of compaction effects according to 'depth(z/B) from compacted surface' in the field, when not reinforced, the compaction state deteriorated due to the over-compaction and the compaction did not work well. However, when reinforcement of geosynthetics, restraint effect by geosynthetics occurs, it is confirmed that the compaction energy is effectively transferred to the compaction layer and the dry density is increased. Also, through the conceptual model of the behavior of geosynthetic and soil layer, the mechanism in the ground due to reinforcement of geosynthetics is presented and it is verified through finite element analysis.
In cases of the loosely accumulated ground and soft clayey soils, the settlement criterion usually governs in evaluating the stability of structures. The settlement is also a dominant factor to control the design of granular compaction piles mainly applied to the reinforcement of foundation structures in soft ground. In the previous studies, settlement behaviors of granular compaction piles have generally been analyzed with an evaluation of the settlement reduction factor based on the load-sharing ratio and the replacement ratio. In this approach, however, since the reinforced ground with granular compaction piles is simplified as the composite ground, only the difference of a relative vertical strength between piles and soils is taken into account without reflecting lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles. In the present study, the method of estimating the settlement of granular compaction piles is proposed by synthetically considering a vertical strength of the ground, lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles, the strength of pile materials, a pile diameter, and an installation distance of the pile. Further, far the verification of a validity of the proposed method, predicted settlements are compared with results from previous studies. In addition, parametric studies are performed together with detailed analyses of relevant design parameters.
Recenlty, there are many cases that structures are constructed on soft ground in domestic. Generally in those cases, appropriate geotechnical techniques for the ground are needed. In this study, an example for ground improvement of OO railroad station construction site is introduced and analyzed. The ground conditions of this site which is soft ground are that N value is under 6, average depth and ground water table is 24.4m, GL-1.7. So, as a countermeasure technique for bearing reinforcement, Compaction Grouting System (CGS) method was applied on construction site. To estimate the application of CGS method, piezo cone penetration test and static pile loading test were carried out during the construction. Results of analysis show that CGS method for improving the bearing capacity of soft ground is applicable for the ground well.
