  • This study was to investigate the measurement point of root collar diameter of landscape trees in Korea. It may contribute to avoiding disputes caused by the difference in measurement criteria of root collar diameter of landscape trees between tree growers and constructors. The difference between landscape trees' root collar diameter measurement point was 3.59cm from 6cm underground to the surface and 1.35cm from 0cm to 6cm above ground. The source root collar diameter measurement point difference was larger in the basement than in the ground. The standard deviation of the root collar diameter of the landscape tree was 0.64 from 6cm underground to the surface, and the difference in standard deviation from 0cm to 6cm above ground was 0.16. The difference by measurement point of the root collar diameter was larger in the basement than in the ground. It has been proposed to set the reasonable measurement point of the landscaping tree root collar diameter at the inflection point where the standard deviation of the tree trunk diameter is the smallest in line with the size change of the standard for each root collar diameter measurement point. By tree species, Cornus officinalis Siebold & Zucc. 18cm above the ground, Chionanthus retusus Lindl. & Paxton. 12cm above the ground, Zelkova serrata (Thunb.) Makino. 12cm above the ground, Celtis sinensis Pers. 12cm above the ground, Styrax japonicus Siebold & Zucc. 10 cm above the ground, Cornus officinalis Siebold & Zucc. 10cm above the ground, Acer palmatum Thunb. ex Murray. 6cm above the ground, Ilex rotunda Thunb. 6cm above the ground, Quercus myrsmaefolia Blume. 4cm above the ground, Lagerstroemia indica L. 2cm above the ground The above heights were shown as reasonable measurement points. The difference by landscape tree root collar diameter measurement site showed that the standard deviation was small throughout the tree species, and the reasonable average measurement point with a stable slope of the deviation was 12cm or more on average. It can be said that the reasonable measurement point of the root collar diameter of a landscape tree is set at an average of 12cm above the ground. However, recognizing 30cm, which is a familiar ruler(尺) in traditional practices, is quick, It was recommended to measure at the height of 30cm from the surface for a reasonable measurement point of the root collar diameter of a landscape tree, for the uniformity of measurement standards.

  • A line parallel to the ground is frequently shown in our daily life, which enables us to guess its direction. Especially, such a guess tends to become clear when a vanishing line of the ground is shown together. In this paper, a vision based pallet measurement method is suggested, which uses a technique for estimating three-dimensional direction of a line parallel to the ground. The technique computes actually a vector heading to intersection of a given imaged line parallel to the ground and the ground vanishing line determined previously on calibrating a measurement camera. Through an experiment of measuring a real commercial pallet with various orientation and distance, we found that the technique could measure the orientation of the pallet correctly and accurately. The technique worked well even though an edge line available on the front plane of a pallet was almost parallel to the ground vanishing line.

  • Measuring ground resistance has been a popular method of evaluation of the grounding electrode performance. If some portions of grounding electrodes are lost by corrosion, aging or other reasons, consequent deteriotation of the grounding performance would be resulted. It is one of the reasons why it is required to evaluate the performance of grounding systems regularly. However, in case of the electric facilities with multi-grounded system such as power substations with multi-grounded overhead ground wires and/or distribution line neutrals, it is practically difficult to disconnect neutrals or skywires from the substation grounding mesh for the ground resistance measurement. In this paper, a method for the grounding performance measurement of multi-grounded systems, which is based on the measuring ground current distributions, has been proposed. A field test results has shown the validity of the proposed test method.

  • Measurement of ground resistance is the basic and important procedure to evaluate the proriety of grounding systems performance. In the field, however, it is not an easy task to measure ground resistance accurately, because locating a right position of zero potential for accurate GPR(Ground Potential Rise) measurement is very difficult, especially in case of a grounding electrode with large dimension. In this paper, the estimation method of ground resistance by analysing earth surface potential distribution around the grounding electrodes has been described.

  • This paper summarize about the auxiliary electrode measured a ground resistance The method to measure a ground resistance is the fall-of-potential method to using an auxiliary electrode. And an auxiliary electrode must be set up on the ground. Today it is so difficult to set up the auxiliary electrode on the ground because of many concrete building and many paved roads. So this paper is regarding of the ground resistance measurement by the substitute auxiliary electrode. It substituted a iron structure around the building, a wire net for auxiliary electrode. This information is confirmed by compared with the measurement value.

  • There have been various studies on measurements of flood risk and forecasting models. For river and dam region, PDF and FVI has been proposed for measurement of flood risk and regression models have been applied for forecasting model. For Bo region unlikely river or dam region, flood risk would unexpectedly increase due to outgoing water to keep water amount under the designated risk level even the drain system could hardly manage the water amount. GFI and general linear model was proposed for flood risk measurement and forecasting model. In this paper, FVI with the consideration of duration on GFI was proposed for flood risk measurement at Bo region. General linear model was applied to the empirical data from Bo region of Nadong river to derive the forecasting model of FVI at three different values of Base High Level, 2m, 2.5m and 3m. The significant predictor variables on the target variable, FVI were as follows: ground water level based on sea level with negative effect, difference between ground altitude of ground water and river level with negative effect, and difference between ground water level and river level after Bo water being filled with positive sign for quantitative variables. And for qualitative variable, effective soil depth and ground soil type were significant for FVI.

  • When a construction company builds a high structure, many piles should be driven into the ground by a hammer whose weight is 7,000 Kg in order to make the ground under the structure safe and strong. So, it is essential to determine whether a pile is penetrated into the ground enough to support the weight of the structure since ground characteristics at different locations are different each other. This paper proposes a visual measurement system for pile rebound and penetration movement including vibration using a high-speed line-scan camera and a specially designed mark to recognize two-dimensional motion parameters of the mark using only a line-scan camera. A mark stacking white and black right-angled triangles is used for the measurement, and movement information for vertical distance, horizontal distance and rotational angle is determined simultaneously

  • The installation of soft ground instruments and the performance of measurement and management of the measurement shall be carried out in order to ensure the safety of the construction work and to improve the quality of the construction work. The purpose of the pressure density deposition calculation is to determine the stability of the foundation ground and the formulation by measuring and calculating the density conditions generated on the soil through the period of neglect after completion of the soil at each stage. In practice, it is judged that the analysis by the hyperbolic method can be applied to the safety side.

  • This paper is introducing a radio control helicopter as a new platform of ground truth measurement. This helicopter is normally used for spraying an agricultural chemical. It can do pinpoint hovering and programing flight using DGPS etc., A spectrometer with dual port can measure ground surface and white reference plate at the same time. And it can also take digital images by digital camera. It is needed to collect ground reflectance information as satellite sensor footprint size for satellite data validation. Generally it is possible to get such ground reflectance by an airplane measurement. But it is high cost and not so easy to make a measurement by airplane. Developed validation system can provide such ground reflectance in low cost and easy.
