  • Conventional wind power generators have limited installation sites due to low efficiency due to reverse resistance or high cut-in speed. To compensate for these problems, this study proposed another new type of tilting wind turbine. The key to this method is the structural design of a cylindrical cam with a guide groove that allows the blade to tilt. As the blade rotates by the cam, it tilts according to the angle. In the section that generates torque by receiving drag, the blade is made perpendicular to the wind. And it is a structure that creates a parallel state with the wind in the section where reverse resistance occurs. We prepared six types of cams considering the length of the section subject to drag, reverse resistance, tilting section. The performance was analyzed as the maximum value of the output, torque coefficient, and efficiency coefficient, which is indicated by setting different wind speed and low TSR.

  • Bearing is a mechanical component that supports loads and transmits rotation. As the application of high-value-added products such as semiconductors, aviation, and robots have recently become diverse and more precise, an accurate bearing performance prediction and evaluation technology is required. Bearing performance evaluation can be divided into evaluations based on bearing theory and on numerical analysis. An evaluation based on numerical analysis is a technique that has been highlighted because the problems that remained unsolved owing to time problems can be solved through recent developments in computers. However, current studies have the disadvantage of not considering the essential changes over time and bearing rotation. In this study, bearing performance evaluation based on rigid body dynamic analysis considering rotation and load over time is performed. Rigid body dynamic analysis is performed for deep groove ball bearing to calculate the load applied by the ball. The reliability of the analysis is verified by comparing it with the results calculated using bearing theory. In addition, rigid body dynamic analysis is performed for automotive wheel bearings to calculate the contact angle and load applied by the ball for cases where axial load and radial load are applied, respectively. The effect of rotation and load over time is evaluated from these results.

  • Patellofemoral instability (PFI) is common in pediatric knee injuries. PFI results from loss of balance in the dynamic relationship of the patella in the femoral trochlear groove. Patellar lateral dislocation, which is at the extreme of the PFI, results from medial stabilizer injury and leads to the patella hitting the lateral femoral condyle. Multiple contributing factors to PFI have been described, including anatomical variants and altered biomechanics. Femoral condyle dysplasia is a major risk factor for PFI. Medial stabilizer injury contributes to PFI by creating an imbalance in dynamic vectors of the patella. Increased Q angle, femoral anteversion, and lateral insertion of the patellar tendon are additional contributing factors that affect dynamic vectors on the patella. An imbalance in the dynamics results in patellofemoral malalignment, which can be recognized by the presence of patella alta, patellar lateral tilt, and lateral subluxation. Dynamic cross-sectional images are useful for in vivo tracking of the patella in patients with PFI. Therapeutic approaches aim to restore normal patellofemoral dynamics and prevent persistent PFI. In this article, the imaging findings of PFI, including risk factors and characteristic findings of acute lateral patellar dislocation, are reviewed. Non-surgical and surgical approaches to PFI in pediatric patients are discussed.

  • In this study, Receiver Operating Characteristic(ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the ability of cephalometric measurements to identify patients with Class III malocclusions. ROC analysis is the method for determining the validity of a diagnostic measure and for evaluating the relative value of diagnostic tests. The sample consisted of 496 patients with malocclusion. Class III malocclusion is defined as the dental relationship for which The mesiobuccal groove of the lower first molar is deviated mesially from the mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first molar. Of the total sample of 496 patients, 245 had Class III malocclusions. 16 cephalometric measurements were selected, each of which was treated as a diagnostic test. The ROC curves were generated for each cephalometric measurement with intervals of $1.0^{\circ}$ for angular measurements, 1.0mm for linear measurements. The area under the ROC curves was measured for direct comparison among different diagnostic tests. The results were as follows; 1. The 'Wits' appraisal was found to be a better diagnostic criterion for the presence of Class III malocclusion than any other commonly'used cephalometric measurement. 2. AB plane angle, ANB angle, App-Bpp distance, AF-BF distance, APDI, Distance of point A and Pog to N perpendicular, maxillomandibular differential had high diagnostic value. 3. Cephalometric measurements which evaluate the position of the mandible had moderate diagnostic value. 4. Cephalometric measurements related to the maxilla discriminated least between patients with and without Class III malocclusion.

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate the morphology and the size of permanent mandibular molar in Korean Adult. The 100 dental college students with a normal dentition and without any dental prosthesis and severe caries were selected for this study The subjects were taken impression to make study model. On the study model, the 5 dentists measured those sizes and estimated morphological structures with a calipers, a Boley gauge and a protractor. The results were as follows; 1. The clinical crown height, width, thickness and the other anatomical structures had symmetrical relationship between the left and right mandibular molar. 2. In the clinical crown height aspect, the buccal crown heights always were higher than the lingual crown height. The heights of the each surface, the buccal or lingual surface, were gradually decreased from the 1st molar to the 2nd molar and the difference on the buccal surface was higher than that on the lingual surface. 3. In the clinical crown width aspect, the mesiodistal measurement of the mandibular 1st molar was higher than that of the mandibular 2st molar. 4. In the clinical crown thickness aspect, the mesial buccolingual measurement was highest on the mandibular 1st molar and the distal buccolingual distance was lowest on the mandibular 2nd molar. This distal thickness of the mandibular molar always was higher than that of the mesial half. 5. The well-developed mesiobuccal groove of the 1st molar was observed more often than that of the 2nd molar. The buccal pit was also observed more frequently at the 1st molar, but the frequency(35%) was not high. 6. The occlusal type according to the number of cusp was almost 5-cusp(98%) in the 1st molar and was also 5-cusp(63%) in the 2nd molar. The frequency of the 6th cusp was 31% in the 1st molar and was 22% in the 2nd molar. The frequency of the 7th cusp was below 2of in the both teeth. 7. In the buccolingual intercuspal distance aspect of the mesial and distal half, the intercuspal distance of distal half was higher than that of the mesial half on the 1st and 2nd molar, but the difference on the 1st molar was higher than that on the 2nd molar. 8. The difference between the widths of the buccal and lingual half was 1.5mm in the 1st molar and 0.8mm in the 2nd molar. Therefore the lingual convergency of the occlusal surface was more higher in the 1st molar. 9. On the mandibular 1st and 2nd molar, the distobuccal external angle was more acute than the mesiobuccal external angle. But the mesiobuccal internal angle was more acute than the distobuccal internal angle. 10. When the mandibular molar was a 5-cusp type, the development of the distal cusp on the 1st molar was better than that on the 2nd molar. The difference between the cusps was around 0.4mm.

  • A new deformation of reinforcing bar in coils was proposed to improve a machinability of straightening process, which has crescent-shaped transverse ribs with an inclination angle of 50 degrees, a crest width of $0.15d_b$, and a flank inclination of 55 degrees. The proposed deformation can increase contact area between a surface of re-bar and a groove of a roller during a straightening process and, therefore, it might reduce a damage of ribs, improve a final straightness, and enhance an efficiency of the straightening process. Splice tests were conducted to evaluate bond strengths of three types of re-bar in coils including the proposed re-bar, of which the inclination angles of transverse ribs were 50, 60, and 90 degrees, respectively. Test results show that the re-bars in coils have higher bond strengths than predicted strengths by equations of Orangun et al., ACI 408, and KCI by at least 10%. Correlation coefficients of bond strengths between a straight bar and re-bars in coils are 0.94 and more. Consequently, equations of the KCI code for determining development and splice lengths can be applied to the tested re-bars in coils.

  • Flexibility and fracture properties determine the performance of NiTi rotary instruments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how geometrical differences between three NiTi instruments affect the deformation and stress distributions under bending and torsional conditions using finite element analysis. Three NiTi files (ProFile .06 / #30, F3 of ProTaper and ProTaper Universal) were scanned using a Micro-CT. The obtained structural geometries were meshed with linear, eight-noded hexahedral elements. The mechanical behavior (deformation and von Mises equivalent stress) of the three endodontic instruments were analyzed under four bending and rotational conditions using ABAQUS finite element analysis software. The nonlinear mechanical behavior of the NiTi was taken into account. The U-shaped cross sectional geometry of ProFile showed the highest flexibility of the three file models. The ProTaper, which has a convex triangular cross-section, was the most stiff file model. For the same deflection, the ProTaper required more force to reach the same deflection as the other models, and needed more torque than other models for the same amount of rotation. The highest von Mises stress value was found at the groove area in the cross-section of the ProTaper Universal. Under torsion, all files showed highest stresses at their groove area. The ProFile showed highest von Mises stress value under the same torsional moment while the ProTaper Universal showed the highest value under same rotational angle.

  • The basic principles in the design of Class II amalgam cavity preparations have been modified but not changed in essence over the last 90 years. The early essential principle was "extension for prevention". Most of the modifications have served to reduce the extent of preparation and, thus, increase the conservation of sound tooth structure. A more recent concept relating to conservative Class II cavity preparations involves elimination of occlusal preparation if no carious lesion exists in this area. To evaluate the ideal ClassII cavity preparation design, if carious lesion exists only in the interproximal area, three cavity design conditions were studied: Rodda's conventional cavity, simple proximal box cavity and proximal box cavity with retention grooves. In this study, MO amalgam cavity was prepared on maxillary first premolar. Three dimensional finite element models were made by serial photographic method. Linear, eight and six-nodal, isoparametric brick elements were used for the three dimensional finite element model. The periodontal ligament and alveolar bone surrounding the tooth were excluded in these models. Three types model(B option, Gap option and R option model) were developed. B option model was assumed perfect bonding between the restoration and cavty wall. Gap option model(Gap distance: $2{\mu}m$) was assumed the possibility of play at the interface simulated the lack of real bonding between the amalgam and cavity wall (enamel and dentin). R option model was assumed non-connection between the restoration and cavty wall. A load of 500N was applied vertically at the first node from the lingual slope of the buccal cusp tip. This study analysed the displacement, 1 and 2 direction normal stress and strain with FEM software ABAQUS Version 5.2 and hardware IRIS 4D/310 VGX Work-station. The results were as followed. 1. Rodda's cavity form model showed greater amount of displacement with other two models. 2. The stress and strain were increased on the distal marginal ridge and buccopulpal line angle in Rodda's cavity form model. 3. The stress and strain were increased on the central groove and a part of distal marginal ridge in simple proximal box model and proximal box model with retention grooves. 4. With Gap option, Rodda's cavity form model showed the greatest amount of the stress on distal marginal ridge followed by proximal box model with retention grooves and simple proximal box model in descending order. 5. With Gap option, simple proximal box model showed greater amount of stress on the central groove with proximal box model with retention grooves. 6. Retention grooves in the proximal box played the role of supporting the restorations opposing to loads.

  • Objective: This study aimed to determine the sonographic features suggestive of extrathyroidal extension (ETE) of thyroid cancers. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the sonographic images of 1656 consecutive patients who had undergone thyroidectomy in 2017. The diagnostic performance of sonographic features suggestive of ETE was evaluated using operation and histopathologic reports. Sonographic features for gross ETE to the strap muscle and minor ETE were assessed for thyroid cancer abutting the anterolateral thyroid capsule. Sonographic features for tracheal invasion were assessed according to whether the angle between the tumor and the trachea was an acute, right, or obtuse angle. Sonographic features for recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) invasion were assessed based on the association between the tumor and tracheoesophageal groove (TEG) as preserved normal tissue, abutting or protruding into the TEG. Results: ETE was observed in 783 patients (47.3%), including 123 patients with gross ETE (7.4% [strap muscle, n = 97; RLN, n = 24; and trachea, n = 14]) and 660 patients with minor ETE (39.9%). Regarding the diagnosis of gross and minor ETE to the strap muscle, sonographic features of replacement of the strap muscle and capsular disruption showed the highest positive predictive value (75.9% and 58.5%, respectively). Thyroid cancer forming an obtuse angle with the trachea had the highest sensitivity for the diagnosis of tracheal invasion (85.7%), and thyroid cancer protrusion into the TEG showed the highest sensitivity for the diagnosis of RLN (83.3%). Conclusion: Sonography is considered beneficial in the diagnosis of ETE to the strap muscle, trachea, and RLN. Assessment of ETE is important for the accurate staging of thyroid cancer, which in turn determines the extent of surgery or whether active surveillance is appropriate or not.
