  • The computational cost of clothing simulation and rendering is mainly depends on the type of mesh and its quality. Thus, quadrilateral meshes are generally preferred over triangular meshes for the reasons of accuracy and efficiency. This paper presents a method of quadrangulating sewing pattern based on the recursive geometry decomposition method. Herein, we proposed two simple improvements to the previous algorithms. The first one deals with the recursive geometry decomposition in which the physical domain is decomposed into simple and mappable regions. The second proposed algorithm deals with the vertex validation in which the invalid vertex classification can be validated.

  • The objective of this work is the air quality modeling according to the scenarios of emission on complex terrain. The prognostic meteorological fields and air quality field over complex areas of Seoul, Korea are generated by the PSU/NCAR mesoscale model (MM5) and the Third Generation Community Multi-scale Air Quality Modeling System (Models - 3/CMAQ), respectively. The emission source was driven from the Clean Air Policy Support System of the Korea National institute of Environmental Research (CAPSS), which is a 1 km x 1 km grid in South Korea during 2003. In comparison of air quality fields, the simulated averaged $PM_{10},\;NO_2,\;and\;O_3$ concentration on complex terrain in control case were decreased as compared with base case. Particularly $PM_{10}$ revealed most substantial localized differences by $(18{\sim}24{\mu}g/m^3)$. The reduction rate of $PM_{10},\;NO_2,\;and\;O_3$ is respectively 18.88, 13.34 and 4.17%.

  • 'Pattern' is the term that is frequently used in the aspects of history, society, and science. It always appears in the remains or relics of the age of civilization when recording was started, and its evaluation and value differ by time. Patterns in the ancient civilization were symbolic, social, and spatially crucial. However, after the modernization, they were considered to be immoral and unnecessary, so the range of their significance came to reduce. Due to the development of science, ornament patterns lost the limitation of its range of use along with new interpretation of them. Especially with the advent of new scientific theories such as the evolution theory from the biological aspect, quantum mechanics, and super string theory, morphological possibilities more than the human scale perceived by men came to be discovered. Living organisms maintain their lives through patterns, structures, and processes in order to produce a system alive. Among them, patterns are the organization of relations determining the characteristics of the system. The present patterns may correspond to this meaning. The pattern in a space is the matter of how to relate the components after all. In a space, however, there are numerous components mingled with one another. If these tasks are conducted as analogue work, it will take a lot of time and effort. However, if digital media are utilized to perform the tasks like analysis, generation, or fabrication, it will produce a result with higher precision and efficiency. In this sense, parametric modeling is quite useful media. Opening morphological variation, it realizes more possibilities, connects conveniently the relations between complex components composing a space, and helps produce creative patterns.

  • The final site of offshore wind power plant should be decided by comprehensive examination of various conditions such as wind resource, sea depth, geology, grid connection, social circumstance and environmental issue. Wind condition is typically regarded as the most important factor because wind energy increases in proportion to wind velocity and it directly relates to the amount of power output, efficiency of power plant and profitability. Advanced countries in the offshore wind power sector such as Denmark, UK and Germany, they are analyzing wind resource accurately by installing the meteorological mast in the ocean in order to get the optimal type of wind turbine and maximum generation efficiency. Also, it is made much of designing offshore power plant on the basis of actual measurement by met-mast and those wind farms have a chance to get the loan with reduced interest rate in project financing. In Korea, the HEMOSU-1 is installed in the ocean around Wido island to analyze wind resource of test bed of 100MW offshore wind power on october last year. This paper deals with the design and construction procedure of the first met-mast in Korea and also shows the site characteristics of test bed. Therefore, this paper will give useful information to local governments and private business sector who are trying to construct offshore wind farm and it can also be a good reference for the following projects of meteorological mast in near future.

  • The first grid-connected, building-integrated transparent amorphous silicon photovoltaic installation has been operated since October 2004 in Yongin, Korea. The 2.2kWp transparent PV system was applied to the facade of entrance hall in newly constructed KOLON E&C R&D building. The PV module is a nominal 0.98m ${\times}$ 0.95m, 10% transparent, laminated, amorphous(a-Si) thin-film device rated at 44 Wp per module. To demonstrate the architectural features of thin film PV technologies for daylighting application, transparent PV modules are attached to the building envelope with the form of single glazed window and special point glazing(SPG) frames. Besides power generation, the 10% transmittance of a-Si PV module provides very smooth natural daylight to the entrance hall without any special shading devices for whole year. The installation is fully instrumented and is continuously monitored in order to allow the performance assessment of amorphous silicon PV operating at the prevailing conditions. This paper presents measured power performance data from the first 12 months of operation. For the first year, annual average system specific yield was just 486.4kWh/kWp/year which is almost half of typical amorphous silicon PV output under the best angle and orientation. It should be caused by building orientation and self-shading of adjacent mass. Besides annual power output, various statistical analysis was performed to identify the characteristics of transparent thin film PV system.

  • An optimal layout condition of the offshore wind turbines is studied by using the response surface analysis which is a kind of the design of experiments. Based on the assumption that total 36 turbines would be installed in the offshore wind farm, the number and distance of the rows and columns are used as the design variables and the efficiency decrease of power generation due to the wake decay by the interactions of turbines and the installation cost of the internal electric grid are considered as the objective functions of the response surface analysis for the layout design of turbines. Useful design information can be derived by analyzing the relationship between the design variables and target functions. It is found that the row number and the distance between rows should be minimized, and the optimal distance between columns should be estimated and adopted to the layout design within the specified design range in order to ensure the economics for the offshore wind farm.

  • In the present study, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, together with the equations of the $k-{\varepsilon}$ model of turbulence, were solved numerically in a general body-fitted coordinate system for three-dimensional turbulent flows around the six basic shapes of the magnetically levitated train(MAGLEV). The numerical computations were conducted on the MAGLEV model configurations to provide information on shapes of this type very near the elevated track at a constant Reynolds number of $1.48{\times}10^{6}$ based on the body length. The coordinate system was generated by numerically solving a set of Poisson equations. The convective transport equations were discretized using the finite-analytic scheme which employed analytic solutions of the locally-linearized equations. A time marching algorithm was employed to enable future extensions to be made to handle unsteady and fully-elliptic problems. The pressure-velocity coupling was treated with the SIMPLER-algorithm. Of particular interests were wall effect by the elevated track on the aerodynamic forces and flow characteristics of the six models calculated. The results indicated that the half-circle configuration with extended sides and with smooth curvature of sides was desirable because of the low aerodynamic forces and pitching moment. And it was found that the separation bubble was occured at wake region in near the elevated track.

  • Large amplitude oscillation of steepled main cables usually presents during construction of a long-span bridge. To study this phenomenon, six typical main cables with different cross sections during construction are investigated. Two main foci have been conducted. Firstly, aerodynamic coefficients of a main cable are obtained and compared through simulation and wind tunnel test: (1) to ensure the simulation accuracy, influences of the numerical model's grid size, and the jaggy edges of main cable's cross section on main cable's aerodynamic coefficients are investigated; (2) aerodynamic coefficients of main cables at different wind attack angles are obtained based on the wind tunnel test in which the experimental model is made by rigid plastic using the 3D Printing Technology; (3) then numerical results are compared with wind tunnel test results, and they are in good agreement. Secondly, aerodynamic coefficients of the six main cables at different wind attack angles are obtained through numerical simulation. Then Den Hartog criterion is used to analyze the transverse galloping of main cables during construction. Results show all the six main cables may undergo galloping, which may be an important reason for the large amplitude oscillation of steepled main cables during construction. The flow structures around the main cables indicate that the characteristic of the airflow trajectory over a steepled main cable may play an important role in the galloping generation. Engineers should take some effective measures to control this harmful phenomenon due to the big possibility of the onset of galloping during the construction period.

  • This study has been carried out to analyze the sensitivity of ozone concentrations by employing different options of cumulus parameterization schemes (CPSs) and microphysics schemes in MM5 models. These sensitivity tests were applied to long-range transport case of higher ozone over Northeast Asia. Employed CPS schemes are Betts-Miller (BM), Grell (GR), Kain-Fritsch2 (KF2), Anthes-Kuo (AK), None scheme (grid scale physics only), and four microphysics used here are Simple ice, Reisner1, Reisner2, Schultz scheme in MM5. We chose two cases of high ozone long range transport case by employing both concentrations ozone level and backward trajectory model. The results showed that modeled ozone concentrations indicated about 10% differences among CPSs. Of the all options, GR and KF2 (for CPS), and Rersiner-1 and Resiner-2 (for microphysics) showed relatively good and stable variations against ensemble mean values. For both CPS and microphysics schemes, the difference of precipitation arising from different parameterization schemes was significant by itself, but the resultant ozone variations showed only marginal. But the cloud fraction differences arising from different parameterization schemes showed better correlation with ozone variations than precipitation differences, indicating that the photochemical ozone generation variations is more dominant by cloud fraction than wet removal process for high and long-ranged transported ozone cases over Northeast Asia.

  • MOLAP systems store data in a multidimensional away called a 'cube' and access them using way indexes. When a cube is placed into disk, it can be Partitioned into a set of chunks of the same side length. Such a cube storage scheme is called the chunk-based MOLAP cube storage scheme. It gives data clustering effect so that all the dimensions are guaranteed to get a fair chance in terms of the query processing speed. In order to achieve high space utilization, sparse chunks are further compressed. Due to data compression, the relative position of chunks cannot be obtained in constant time without using indexes. In this paper, we propose a bitmap index for chunk-based MOLAP cubes. The index can be constructed along with the corresponding cube generation. The relative position of chunks is retained in the index so that chunk retrieval can be done in constant time. We placed in an index block as many chunks as possible so that the number of index searches is minimized for OLAP operations such as range queries. We showed the proposed index is efficient by comparing it with multidimensional indexes such as UB-tree and grid file in terms of time and space.
