  • Agriculture is most closely related to weather, and the government pursues stable food production by weather research. However, abnormal weather conditions have occurred frequently around the world in recent years, and stable food production has been threatened. Among them, heavy snow in winter tends to increase in frequency and size, which causes serious damage to greenhouses. Therefore, it is imperative to build a system reflecting various demands to reduce the damage to agricultural facilities caused by heavy snow. A business model can realize this as a way of commercialization, however, no suitable model has been presented to date. Therefore, this study aims to design a representative business model that can establish a safety system by distributing a greenhouse disaster prevention warning system for heavy snow to farms.

  • In this study, the DIAlux program was simulated for the optimal conditions of daylight and artificial light sources(LED) in a glass greenhouse. From the results of the daylight simulation, the optimal design conditions for the glass greenhouse were established, which had a $90^{\circ}$ installation angle and a higher transmittance of glass. In the case of growing lettuce in a glass greenhouse, it was compared with artificial light sources, the artificial light source (LED) was used to produce a power consumption effect of 41%. These results suggest that lettuce be grown in an energy saving glass greenhouse.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Korea agricultural productions and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions based on Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. Design/methodology/approach - This study utilized time series data of economic growth, greenhouse gas, agricultural productions, trade dependency, and energy usages. In order to econometric procedure of EKC hypothesis, this study utilized unit root test and cointegration test to check staionarity of each variable and also adopted Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) to analyze the short and long run relationships. Findings - In the short run, greenhouse gas emissions resulting from economic growth show an inverse U-shape relationship, and an increase in agricultural production and energy consumption led to increase in greenhouse gas emission. In the long run, total GHG emissions and CO2 emissions show an N-shaped relationship with economic growth, and an increase in agricultural production has resulted in a decrease in total GHG and CO2 emissions. However, methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions showed an inverse U-shape relationship with economic growth, which indicated the environment and production process of agricultural production. Research implications or Originality - Korea agricultural production has different effects on the GHG emission sources, and in particular, methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions show to increase as the agricultural production expansions, so policy or technological development in related sector is required. Especially, in the context of the 2030 GHG reduction road-map, if GHG-related reduction technologies or policies are spread, national GHG emission reduction targets can be achieved and this is possible to predict the decline in production in the sector and damage to the related industries.

  • The efficient beam members for modern greenhouse need to be much lightweight with the required flexural and buckling strength. To confirm the applicability and practicality of the trussed web beam recently proposed for column and beam members of greenhouse, the flexural behavior and buckling characteristics were analyzed by the finite element approach. On the basis of analytical studies, the member design process was presented considering the lateral and local buckling behavior. Also, two improved alternatives which were capable of retaining the lateral and local buckling effectively were suggested.

  • Natural ventilation is achieved by air exchanges through multiple openings due to natural pressure variations inside and outside the greenhouse. Wind is the primary driving force making natural ventilation systems very difficult to design properly because of variations in wind velocity and direction. The optimization of these systems for acceptable climate control requires a thorough knowledge of the airflow rates and patterns as related to weather conditions and greenhouse structural details. • An energy generating greenhouse based on fluoropolymer envelope and fresnel lens is proposed. The outstanding properties of the fluoropolymer films make them very suitable for large scale solar applications. Extremely high optical transmission over the whole solar spectrum, combined with mechanical strength, and durability allows us to design a highly optimized greenhouses for both plant growing and energy generation. Systems such as photovoltaic triple junction cells are especially attractive since they have up to 35% efficiency with much less cell material when the sun beam is focused with concentrators such as fresnel lenses. Cooling such devices will enhance the efficiency and provide useful thermal energy that could be further utilized for various applications depending on the local demands. This article introduces the basic ideas and principles of the energy generating greenhouses as a first step towards the actual deployment of such systems under Korean environment.

  • This study was conducted to build the CFD simulation model which can quantify the distribution of the meteorological factors in air-heated greenhouse for chrysanthemum according to the location and capacity of air-circulation fan. The CFD model was also verified by experiment. It was judged that SST model was the most appropriate turbulence model which can properly describe the airflow by the air-circulation fan. According to the simulation results, the differences between the measured and predicted temperatures from 18 points at each height in the greenhouse were $0.2{\sim}0.4^{\circ}C$ in average. This showed a good agreement between the predicted data and the measured ones. The developed CFD model can be a useful tool to evaluate and design the air-circulation systems in the greenhouse with various configurations.

  • The temperature of root zone is known as an important factor for the growth of crops and reduction of energy in greenhouse. The purpose of this study was to design the solar energy supply system to keep the optimum condition of root zone by soil warming. As a result of this study, soil warming compared with no warming changed on a large scale temperature rise effect by depth of soil. The greenhouse's inner temperature have an effect on the temperature of surface up to 15 cm, rised to about 1 hour after warming. In case of the temperature fluctuation, soil temperature was about $12^{\circ}C$ up to 15${\sim}$25 cm and it was $13.4^{\circ}C$ at greater depths. This results showed that the position of root zone was very different after 3 weeks of growth.

  • Numerical studies were performed to evaluate the structural safety of a greenhouse under both snow and wind loads. In the case of a wind load, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) method was used to consider the local pressure distributions on the greenhouse-induced by aerodynamic characteristics. The results showed that the maximum stress and deformation occur near the junction of pipe supports and rafters of the roof, where connecting clips are installed. Moreover, the wind load is a more severe condition than a snow load. Overall, these results will be used to design a prefabricated connecting clip with easy installation and low maintenance.
