  • In rough seas, green water shipped on board may impose quite large impact loads on the structures on deck and sometimes result in structure damages. One of the essential tasks of the naval fluid engineers is to provide the design impact loads which are needed for proper design of the structure strength against the green water impacts. Computation of the design impact load due to green water needs first a process to find the sea condition and the ship cruising condition which cause maximum green water impacts on structures as well as other succeeding processes to compute ship motion responses, green water flows and impact loads. Also, as a bold and practical process, it is needed that the irregular real seas are to be substituted by design regular waves which are equivalent in view points of green water impacts. In this paper, the whole processes to compute the design green water loads acting on bow structure are set up creatively. And the green water design impact loads acting on the box-type structure of a high-speed ship's bow are computed and discussed.

  • Building energy consumption takes up almost 25% of the total energy consumption. Therefore, diversified ways, such as improving wall and window insulation, have been considered to reduce building energy consumption. Recently, green roof system has been explored as an effective alternative for dealing with reducing heating and cooling energy, thermal island effect and improving water quality. However, recent studies regarding a green roof system have only focused on building energy reduction without considering the applied usage, location, and story of the green roof system. Therefore, this study pays attention to the heating and cooling energy in relation to the applied usage, location, and story of a green roof system for investigating its impact on energy reduction. The result of simulations show that the reduction in heating energy consumption is higher when applied to Cherwon-gun province which has a continental climate condition, compared to the city of Busan that is distinguished by its warm climate. Cooling energy saving turns out to be higher when the green roof system is applied to Busan in comparison with Cherwon. As for the applied usage or function of the building, residential space acquires the highest heating and cooling energy saving effect rather than commerce, educational or office space because of HVAC's running time based on usage. When it comes to the story of the green roof, both heating and cooling energy saving become the highest when the green roof is applied to single-storied buildings. The reason is that single story building is affected by the ground largely. Generally, the variations of heating energy consumption are larger than the cooling energy consumption. The outcome of the simulations, when a green roof system is applied, indicates that the energy consumption reduction rate is dynamically responding to the applied usage, location, and story. Therefore, these factors should be counted closely for maximizing the reduction of energy consumption through green roof systems.

  • The study was to investigate the quality of wet noodle added with the powder green tea. The wet noodles were prepared to the ratio of 1, 2, 3, 5, 7.5 and 10% (w/w) of the powder green tea based on a flour weight. The initial pasting temperature in an amylograph was increased as the increase of the powder green tea, while peak and final viscosity as the increase decreased. The weight and volume of cooked noodles were decreased, and turbidity of soup was increased with the addition of the powder green tea. L and a values of wet noodles were decreased with the addition of the powder green tea, and b value was increased. Texture profile analysis of cooked noodle showed a increase of hardness, cohesiveness, springiness, chewiness up to 2% powder green tea, but decreased from 3% power green tea. However, adhesiveness decreased as the increase of the powder green tea. From the sensory evaluation, the wet noodles included 1% powder green tea were similarly evaluated as the noodle used whole wheat flour.

  • This study aims at suggesting the attributes and limitations of each methods through the evaluation of the verified analysis results, so that it will be possible to select an efficient method that may be applied to assess the green coverage ratio. Green coverage areas of each sites subject to this study were assessed utilizing the following four methods. First, assessment of green coverage area through direct planimetry of satellite images. Second, assessment of green coverage area using land cover map. Third, assessment of green coverage area utilizing the band value in satellite images. Forth, assessment of green coverage area using and land cover map and reference materials. For this study, four urban zones of the City of Seosan in Chungcheongnam-do. As a result, this study show that the best calculation method is the one that combines the merits of first and second methods. This method is expected to be suitable for application in research sites of middle size and above. It is also deemed that it will be possible to apply this method in researches of wide area, such as setting up master plans for parks and green zones established by each local self-government organizations.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the environmental value of green space in Seoul. Longitudinal relationships between land use patterns and $SO_2/NO_2$ have been analysed. Then the environmental and economic value of green space were examined. In this study, the following results have been found : Firstly, it was found that the amount of $SO_2$ showed the negative relations with green space but had the positive relationships with the built-up area. Which in turn can be interpreted as securing the green space could improve the $SO_2$ purification capacity. Secondly, Seoul Metropolitan green belt zones absorbed 69,728 tones of $CO_2$, 654 tones of $SO_2$ and produced 51,205 tones of O2 at the year of 1997 standpoint. This results implicate that the Seoul Metropolitan green belt zones resolve 0.2% of $CO_2$ and 2.9% of $SO_2$ production in total. Finally, the occurrence of an additional costs of 6,800 Korean Won per household was expected due to the air conditioning cost increases as the green belt areas decrease. Therefore, it is recommended to establish the alternative plans for the protection and creation of the green space in the urban areas, since those urban green space have the significant meaning as their provision of habitats for the wildlife as well as their contribution to the reduction of energy consumption.

  • The influence of land-use type on surrounding temperature was studied the relationships between land-use types and the air condition analyzing AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data of Seoul from KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration). The distribution of air temperature by land-use type has been influenced by the different heating and cooling rates. The difference of heating rates depending on the land-use type was largest at 2~3hours after sunrise and the difference of cooling rates was largest from 2hours before sunset to 2hours after sunset with its maximum at sunset. The difference of cooling rates is greatest in a clear and calm weather situation and the large difference in cooling rates between the green areas and built-up area is up to $1.5^{\circ}C/h$. By season, the difference of cooling rates is largest in fall and in turn spring, winter and summer. In a cloudy or rainy day, the difference in heating and cooling rates on land-use type is not distinct but the tendency is similar to a clear day. In all seasons, the rate of difference occurrence of the daily range of temperature between the green areas and built-up area was large, especially fall. In a fall with a clear and calm day, the magnitude of the daily range of temperature between the green areas and built-up area was largest.

  • The demands about eco friendly space are increased as buildings are denser in downtown, and green system on the roof and the artificial ground are widely being applied. The construction of green system applies a waterproof layer, a root barrier and a protection concrete layer. Assembly of these many layers leads to a long construction term, and cause many defects. This study is to evaluate one layer-hybrid sheet which gets waterproof and root barrier performance simultaneously, which is developed to use in the new green system. As results, the performances of physical properties, durability, waterproof and root barrier not only exceeded quality standards but also showed excellent durability. In addition, mock-up test would be proceed to certify long term performance.

  • Cobalt (cyclam) complex has been successfully immobilized onto SBA-15, and proven to be an active catalyst for the epoxidation of styrene with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as a terminal oxidant. The selectivity for styrene oxide was observed to be up to 66% with 40% styrene conversion after 12h reaction time. The reversible redox cycle between Co(III) and Co(II) couple which was supposed to play key role during the epoxidation reaction was supported by a cyclic voltametry analysis. The textural properties of the catalyst was characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, and TEM analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of School Green Building Certification System by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. Especially, we focused on school use classification. Use classification of Green Building Certification System must be based on Building Codes and reflect the nature of building use and size. Schools are divided into three groups ; preschool, school(elementary, junior high school, high school), university and ect. Also they must be set up assessment method reflecting the nature of school use and size.
