Connectivity is a quantitative indicator of landscape structure, and connectivity of urban green areas is an indicator of ecological integrity in urban landscapes. The purposes of this study are to assess the connectivity of urban green areas in Seoul, and to develop a method of siting new green areas for better connectivity. Diverse methods for connectivity assessment and indices of connectivity are reviewed and applied to the connectivity assesment of green areas in Seoul. The indices of connectivity of green areas in Seoul turned out to be higher than expected, maybe because many of them are rather evenly distributed, serving as stepping stones, and because there are many riparian corridors, including the Han River. Analysis also shows the optimum location of new green space patches or corridors will be those spots that would link the mainland, or large green areas outside the city, and existing green areas in the city. Restoration of urban streams as ecological corridors will significantly enhance connectivity. Three different scenarios with increasing numbers of new green areas in the city were then prepared. The changes of connectivity were measured and the possible success rates of animal dispersal were simulated. The results revealed that restoration of streams will increase the connectivity and success rates of animal dispersal.

Urban green areas are generally composed of relatively small and fragmented patches, but it is a critical factor for the quality of an urban environment. They have positive effects such as increasing green connectivity, reducing runoff, and mitigating urban heat. But, there is a lack of urban greening plans that consider the comprehensive effects of green space in real urban areas. To fill this gap in this literature, this study identifies a planning model that determines the optimal locations for maximizing green areas' multiple effects(e.g., heat mitigation and enhancement of connectivity) by using unused lots. This model also considers minimizing costs using meta-heuristic optimization algorithms. As a results, we finds 50 optimal plans that considers two effects within the limited cost in Nowon-gu. The optimal plans show the trade-off effect between connectivity, heat mitigation and cost. They also show the critical unused land lots for urban greening that are commonly selected in various plans. These optimal plans can effectively inform quantitative effectiveness of green space and their trade-off. We expect that our model will contribute to the improvement of green planning processes in reality.

Urban green spaces supply ecosystem services (ESs), which are consumed by city residents and generate demand, to improve air quality. It is important to determine supply and demand for ESs and reduce the gap for efficient management. This study proposed a method to use the concept of supply and demand for ESs in the decision-making process for urban planning or management. PM10 concentrations were converted to weight for demand assessment on PM10 reduction, and PM10 absorption capacity of all green spaces including the forests, and that of urban green spaces excluding forests, was calculated for each supply assessment. The differences in the calculated supply and demand were analyzed to derive the mismatched regions in Suwon. As a result, regions with big forested areas showed sufficient supply, indicating that the degree of mismatch among administrative neighborhoods (dong) varied greatly depending on whether they had a forest. An analysis of only urban green spaces showed that all neighborhoods lacked supply. Forests with high PM10 absorption capacity had a great effect, but urban green spaces can be considered a key element in reducing PM10 in daily life. Considering the mismatch of supply and demand, spatial distribution, and population distribution, it is possible to prioritize the supply of urban green spaces to reduce PM10 and, furthermore, support decision making for priority zones subject to forest conservation and designation and cancellation of green spaces, which gives significance to this study.

The objective of this study is the classification of priority areas for the implementation of green roof by evaluating environmental deterioration in Seoul. Non-permeable pavement, air pollution, habitual floods, energy use, heat island and green space are considered in this assessment indicators. The expert questionnaire survey was conducted in order to determine the most important indicators. These indicators were then, thoroughly evaluated. As a result, high priority areas for the implementation of green roof were deduced in the following order of the districts : Jung, Sungdong, Jungrang, Youngdungpo, Jongro and Kangnam. The highest priority areas were determined to be crowded business-commercial areas. Low priority areas are analyzed in the following order of the districts : Kwanak, Nowon, Seocho and Dobong. The result of this study can be utilized for environmental planning and decision of related policies. Additionally, it can be promoted that awareness of implementing green roof of citizens, policy makers and building owners and effect of green networking between inside and outside Seoul can be increased.

Urban parks are important bird habitat in cities. Various studies have evaluated the habitat function of urban parks focused on field surveys. In this study, we performed applicability of NDVI obtained from Landsat 8 OLI image as a factor for spatial planning considered bird diversity. This study was classified with green boundary into three groups using NDVI's value. Environmental variables were calculated by the green area ratio of the surrounding area from 100m to 500m at each groups. The 20 environmental variables such as park area, park shape index, canopy of tree, etc. were derived, the regression analysis was performed as a dependent variable for the bird diversity of urban parks. As a result, the park area and the green area ratio of Group 3, classified high NDVI, within the 100m buffer were adopted as the variables in the regression model. In other words, it was confirmed that as the park becomes larger, the distribution of key green areas within a radius of 100m of the parks becomes higher, the diversity of bird species has increased. It was appropriate to use satellite image, NDVI to analyze species diversity in urban area.

This study was conducted to develop an ecological park planning model to enhance the functions of habitats and ecological corridors in Green Belt Areas, because changing policies have resulted in the degredation of the Green Belts due to progressive fragmentation of ecosystems. The principal outcome of the study is to plan an ecological park model through the restoration of habitats. In order to evaluate the capacity of the model to enhance the ecological functions of habitats and ecological corridors in Green Belt Areas, a simulation of habitats was carried out in the Sungnam-Yusoo region. The model was developed via following steps: 1. Selection of candidate sites and selection of the study site by analyzing development factors; 2. Selection of target species that can represent the habitat at the site; 3. Analysis of the site's suitability index for the target species; 4. Establishment of a conceptual plan to enhance and expand the currently produced suitability index; 5. Creation of a master plan based on the conceptual plan; and 6. Evaluation of the enhanced and expanded suitability index of the site. The study showed that the Habitat Unit (HU) of Rana coreana, which was selected as the target species of the study, increased from $28,044m^2$(3.6%) to $224,352m^2$(28.8%), and the HU of the site as the ecological corridor for wild animals increased from $4,674m^2$(0.6%) to $152,684m^2$(19.6%). The study results show that the ecological deficits of the Green Belt Area can be overcome by enhancing the ecological functions of the region, which should be beneficial. The model could be utilized for effective enhancement and management of other Green Belt Areas.

Disasters in coastal regions are a constant source of damage due to their uncertainty and complexity, leading to the proposal of green infrastructure as a nature-based solution that incorporates the concept of resilience to address the limitations of traditional grey infrastructure. This study analyzed trends in research related to coastal disasters and green infrastructure by conducting a co-occurrence keyword analysis of 2,183 articles collected from the Web of Science (WoS). The analysis resulted in the classification of the literature into four clusters. Cluster 1 is related to coastal disasters and tsunamis, as well as predictive simulation techniques, and includes keywords such as surge, wave, tide, and modeling. Cluster 2 focuses on the social system damage caused by coastal disasters and theoretical concepts, with keywords such as population, community, and green infrastructure elements like habitat, wetland, salt marsh, coral reef, and mangrove. Cluster 3 deals with coastal disaster-related sea level rise and international issues, and includes keywords such as sea level rise (or change), floodplain, and DEM. Finally, cluster 4 covers coastal erosion and vulnerability, and GIS, with the theme of 'coastal vulnerability and spatial technique'. Keywords related to green infrastructure in cluster 2 have been continuously appearing since 2016, but their focus has been on the function and effect of each element. Based on this analysis, implications for planning and management processes using green infrastructure in response to coastal disasters have been derived. This study can serve as a valuable resource for future research and policy in responding to and managing various disasters in coastal regions.

The purpose of this study is to derive institutional improvement methods for promoting the Damaged Area Restoration Project in greenbelts. The current status of greenbelts in Gyeonggi-do, where greenbelts are extensively distributed was analyzed, and the relevant laws and regulations were reviewed to suggest measures to promote the restoration project. The area of damaged areas within greenbelts in Gyeonggi-do was 6,121,024 m2, accounting for about 0.52% of the total area of greenbelts, and more than 80% was found to be located in Namyangju (55.49%), Hanam (16.48%), and Siheung (8.68%). Various measures to improve the policy were examined as follows: reducing the minimum size of the restoration project area; adjusting baseline of recognizing range of damaged areas; introducing the right of claim for land sale; allowing long-term unexecuted urban parks to be replaced as alternative sites for parks and green spaces; simplifying administrative procedures; and allowing public participation. All of them are expected to promote the restoration project within greenbelts. In results, when the minimum size of area for the restoration project was reduced from 10,000 m2 into 5,000 m2, 3,000 m2 and 2,000 m2, the ratio of the number of combinable lots to the total number of lots increased from 4.4% to 18.8%, 38.8%, and 55.9% respectively in Namyangju. Morever, when the recognizable ranges of the restoration project were extended to the structures obtaining building permit as of March 30, 2016 and obtaining use approvals before December, 2017, the number of applicable lots increased by 5.1% and 9.2% respectively.
This study intends to select the planning techniques and develop the layouts of environmentally friendly rural villages. As the results of this study, the planning techniques of rural villages are as follows: (1) Development of agricultural technology(organic farming), (2) Environmentally friendly layout considering natural energy, conservation of natural landscape and ecosystem, and sewage and rainwater, (3) Community restoration considering joint work, economic interchange between urban people and rural residents, and unity of rural resident's opinion, and (4) Activation of rural tourism considering satisfaction of tourists, conservation of ecological and cultural resources, and resident's income increasement. According to these 4 techniques, this study also developed 4 general models: (1) land-use and flow, (2) green and blue networks, (3) networks of ecological and cultural resources, and (4) finally residential model, divided rural villages into 2 types. Therefore when we develop a countryside, we can apply to these models, considering the current ecological and cultural resources conditions.

Environmental conservation planning as set forth in the "Framework Act for Environmental Policy" is a representative planning that demands linkages with spatial development planning like urban master plan. However, despite the intentions and efforts of government (including revision of relevant guidelines etc.), controversy still continues regarding the efficacy of environmental conservation planning in respect of its linkages to spatial development planning. Accordingly, this study was devised to examine existing issues and produce proposals for improvement in ensuring the efficacy of environmental conservation planning by local governments. This study focused in particular on the establishment of spatial environmental plans as suggested in the guidelines of the Ministry of Environment for the purposes of strengthening the efficacy of environmental conservation planning. Based of questionnaires for relevant officials of local governments, the study found that although local governments with established current spatial environmental plans are not numerous, the need for establishment of spatial environmental plans were high in terms of the applicability of environmental conservation and spatial plans. Furthermore, this study also confirmed through analysis of questionnaires data, archival research and case study research that there were a number of salient issues including an overly access and program centered planning method based on individual pollution sources and individual post factor measures in the planning aspect, a lack of usable spatial information in the application of spatial environmental information, and inadequate connections with spatial development planning in respect of linkages with other plans. Under these circumstances, various proposals for improvement were presented including the establishment of contents in environmental conservation planning for each urban master planning item from the standpoint of planning, strengthening of basic environmental surveys for spatial planning and preparation of applicable proposals from the perspective of leveraging of spatial environmental information, and systematic improvements that can enable mutual consideration through feedback between environmental conservation planning and urban master planning from the perspective of connections with spatial planning.
