  • Recently, solar control facade systems are highlighted due to its low cost and outstanding applicability for green remodeling. However, it has not been long time since the systems were introduced. Therefore, the application study of the solar control system also has been insufficient. In this study, simulated models were developed and three types of solar control systems(i.e., overhang, blind, and screen)are installed in the models. The efficiency of energy savings and investment payback period according to the application of solar control facade system were analyzed.

  • Energy systems in increasing energy efficiency are actively performed at home and abroad. But Generally systems in the country are limited in a new building or sort of some buildings like a public and office building. So, this research suggest a new direction of energy system for existing buildings. It need to set a new bound for containing the green remodeling. For a direction, we analysis domestic energy system in perform and compared their bounds, standard and methods of energy evaluation. This study is necessary for an additional research for proposing detailed evaluation items and for a feasibility study research. And it contribute to develope internal energy systems and set a new system bound.

  • Green remodeling of pubic buildings for improving indoor environment and reducing energy consumption is increasingly promoted. The objective of this study is to measure and analyze for wall's thermal performance, thermal transmittance, of existing buildings. The method of this present study refered the ISO 9869-1 and is to measured heat flow, surface temperature of wall, and in/outdoor temperature over 7 days. And it was compared the calculated thermal transmittance with measured one. The measured wall's thermal transmittance value is about two times than the calculated thermal transmittance value.

  • Since the late 20th century, countries of the world have made every effort to solve environmental problems due to global warming. The Korean Government has also made various efforts on reducing energy and $CO_2$ emission under the motto of "Low-Carbon Green Growth". In order to achieve the goal to reduce energy in the construction field, severe design standards and regulations on saving energy in new buildings have been established. However, for maximizing the reduction of energy in buildings, it is time to focus on deteriorated buildings where applications of energy saving designs and techniques have been insufficient. Especially, there are little guidelines and researches on reducing energy through remodeling at deteriorated school buildings which were built over 20 years ago. This paper suggests the priority of factors to reduce energy on the remodeling process at deteriorated school buildings using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. For applying the AHP method, the survey of staffs in the Education Offices and board members in the Korea Institute of Ecological Architecture and Environment was conducted via e-mail. As a result, factors of insulation, daylighting, system control, and windows turned out important in the energy reducing remodeling process at deteriorated school buildings, while factors of artificial lighting, solar heating, ventilation, and system did relatively unimportant.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the current condition of green building education, which is a necessary condition to activate green architecture, with the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector. The main results are as follows. First, the level of education and the level of domestic green architecture were generally underestimated. Second, in order to increase the satisfaction of participants in green building education, it is necessary to increase the number of courses and to increase the number of lecturers who have excellent practical skills. Third, there is a need to strengthen green building programs related to BEMS and green remodeling. Fourth, it is necessary to expand the education on green architecture for the people in the architectural planning and design field and the related field officials. Fifth, green building education needs to be implemented in conjunction with curriculum of elementary, middle and high school. Sixth, it is necessary to diversify the PR(public relations) channels of the green building education program and to provide a way to give the employment increase point when the curriculum is completed. Seventh, there is a need to expand administrative and financial incentives for green architecture in order to revitalize green architecture education.

Bone Changes in Femoral Bone of Mice Using Calcein Labeling (Mice에서 Calcein 표지를 이용한 골 변화 관찰)

  • In vivo labeling of bone with fluorochromes is a widely used method for assessment of bone formation and remodeling processes. In particular, calcein is used as a marker for identification of bone growth, which is indicated by a green color. Calcein green is a calcium chelator that adheres to regions of mineralizing bone thereby allowing localization of new bone. Bone formation and remodeling in vivo can be assessed by calcium-binding calcein labeling. In this study, changes in the femoral bone of a normal mouse model at both 4 and 8 weeks were evaluated using calcein labeling. Intense deposition of calcium in the bone was observed after application for 8 weeks. A mouse model is suitable for application in in vivo experiments using genetically modified mice, such as knock-out mice, however data regarding femoral cross sectional bone in young mice are limited. The current study confirmed calcein as a useful marker for identification of bone growth, which was indicated by a green color on photomicrographs. This methodological process may provide basic information for interpreting bone formation and regeneration to pharmacologic or genetic manipulation in mice.

  • Apartment housings that adopt a bearing wall structure design, which account for a majority of the housing units available in Korea, are not free from structural constraints that limit the extension of their service life. The resulting need for reconstruction from the ground up requires a massive consumption of resources and energy, and triggers environmental pollution resulting from construction wastes. As a solution to such issues, the government enforces incentive schemes to promote a remodeling-friendly rahmen structure design. Green Frame, which is a novel concept of composite precast concrete structure to support rahmen structure apartment housing buildings, can address the constraints of bearing wall structure and conventional rahmen structure designs that limit the potential for remodeling projects, while reducing the term of construction. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the characteristics of Green Frame and its absolute term of construction, and compare the terms of frame work construction in apartment housing projects adopting different structural design approaches to illuminate their differences. In the end, Green Frame is found to be capable of reducing the term of construction in apartment housing projects. As the term of construction is a very critical element of a construction project, Green Frame will ultimately prove to be one of the key enablers to ensure the success of apartment housing construction projects.

  • To be Low Carbon and Green Growth, it is necessary that Long-Life Housing based on Green Technology is supplied. The main concern at the moment is developing Sustainable Housing relative to Life-Cycle or Life-Style of the residents, and the resident of Remodeling or Redevelopment. This study is aim to be Development of Maintenance Process in order to make steady dwelling when supplying Long-Life Housing that separates Support(Skeleton) and Infill different from the existing Short-Life Housing, and has durability, alterability, available remodeling, easy maintenance. Long-Life Housing should consider the maintenance about movement and variableness. In contrast, the maintenance of the existing Housing is regular maintenance, change and repair by damage. As well as Long-Life Housing should be demanded proper Development of Maintenance Process because of difference of Housing in concept, design and Construction. Therefore, this study looks into problems when applying Development of Maintenance Process in Long-Life Housing, and shows Development of Maintenance Process about the efficient Long-Life Housing for the manager.

The Improvement of Building Envelope Performance in Existing School Building (기존 학교 건물의 외피 성능 개선 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate the effects of facade insulation and window remodeling of an existing old middle school building on the reduction of energy consumption. Method: To analyze energy performance of building, using DesignBuilder v3.4, building energy simulation tool based EnergyPlus engine. Energy consumption and problem of target building was analyzed based on data and survey. Based on building energy simulations it analyzed the variation of energy demand for the building according to U-value of wall, glazing properties and external shading devices. Result: When insulation of building was reinforced, cooling and heating load was decreased. Glazing properties that minimize cooling and heating energy consumption were analyzed. In conclusion, it is important to choose SHGC and U-value of window fit in characteristic of target building. Setting external blind for cooling load decreases 5%.

The Energy Saving Effect and Economic Assessment of Office Building according to the Building Envelope Remodeling (사무소 건물의 외피 리모델링에 따른 에너지절감효과 및 경제성 분석)

  • The Korean government has introduced building regulations with improved energy conservation measures, including higher insulation levels for building envelope. However, there are many existing buildings that tend to consume more energy for heating and cooling than new buildings, as they were built under the former regulations with relatively higher U-values of walls and glazing. In order to improve energy efficiency in existing buildings, green remodelling of building envelope and building services are required. For existing buildings, building services improvements have been achieved through energy service company(ESCO), but much attention has not been paid to building envelope improvements with various reasons, such as uncertainty of energy saving effect design issues and costs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of building envelope improvements in a typical commercial building on its heating and cooling energy loads. The results show that the improvement of glazing with lower U-values has the highest energy saving effects, followed by wall, roof and floor, under the condition of same level of insulation improvements. However, high insulated glazing increased LCC because of higher initial investment costs.
