고상 반응법으로 제조한 녹색 형광체 Y1-xBO3:Tbx3+의 형광 특성 (Photoluminescence Properties of Green Phosphor Y1-xBO3:Tbx3+ Synthesized by Solid-state Reaction Method)

  • [ $Y_{1-x}BO_3:Tb_x^{3+}$ ]ceramic phosphors were synthesized with changing the concentration of $Tb^{3+}$ at a sintering temperature of $1,100^{\circ}C$ and a reduction temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ by using a solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure, surface morphology, and photoluminescence properties of the phosphors were investigated as a function of $Tb^{3+}$ ion concentration by using XRD (x-ray diffractometer), scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence spectrophotometry, respectively. The XRD results showed that the main peak of the phosphor powders occurs at (101) plane. As for the photoluminescence properties, the excitation spectra showed the broad band centered at 306 nm and the emission intensity of the spectra peaked at 543 nm indicated a significant decrease as the concentration of $Tb^{3+}$ ion is increased.

  • Main PDP panel efficacy improvement factors are discussed. A large panel efficacy improvement can be obtained through a combination of discharge efficiency improvement and phosphor improvement. Important design elements are a high Xe-content gas mixture, the application of a $TiO_2-layer$, and a new green phosphor with little saturation at high VUV-load. In a 4-inch color test panel with a conventional stripe-type cell configuration a white efficacy of 4.4 lm/W and a luminance of 5000 $cd/m^2$ is obtained for sustaining at 250V in addressed condition.

  • We have synthesized an $Eu^{2+}$-activated $Sr_3MgSi_2O_8$ blue phosphor and $Ba_2SiO_4$ green phosphor and $Ba^{2+}$ co-doped $Sr_3SiO_5$ red phosphor investigated an attempt to develop white LEDs by combining it with a GaN blue LED $chip(\lambda_{em}=405 nm)$. Three distinct emission bands from the GaN-based LED and the $(Sr_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu\; +\; Ba_2SiO_4:Eu\; +\; Ba^{2+}\; co-doped\; Sr_3SiO_5:Eu)$ phosphor are clearly observed at 460nm, 520 nm and at around 600 nm, respectively. These three emission bands combine to give a spectrum that appears white to the naked eye. Our results show that GaN (405 nm chip)-based $(Sr_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu\; +\; Ba_2SiO_4:Eu\; +\; Ba^{2+}\; co-doped\; Sr_3SiO_5:Eu) exhibits a better luminous efficiency than that of the industrially available product InGaN (460 nm chip)-based YAG:Ce.

  • $Y_3A_{l5}O_{12}:Ce^{3+},Pr^{3+}$ single crystal phosphor was prepared by floating zone method. single crystal was confirmed to have a Ia-3d (230) space group of cubic structure and showed regular morphology. The optical properties, single crystal exhibited a emission band from green, yellow wide wavelength and 610nm, 640nm red wavelength vicinity. The luminance maintenance rate was decreased by phonon with increasing temperature, but high luminance is maintained more than powder phosphor. In addition, $Y_3A_{l5}O_{12}:Ce^{3+},Pr^{3+}$ single crystal phosphor was applied to a high power blue laser diode, we implemented high power white laser lightings. and it was confirmed that thermal properties over time, due to the effective heat transfer of complete crystal structure. We confirmed that excellent radiant heat properties than powder phosphor was applied to a high power white laser diode.

  • We prepared $Y_3Al_5O_{12};Ce^{3+},Pr3^{+}$ transparent ceramic phosphor using a solid state reaction method. By XRD pattern analysis and SEM measurement, our phosphors reveal an Ia-3d(230) space group of cubic structure, and the transparent ceramic phosphor has a polycrystal state with some internal cracks and pores. In the Raman scattering measurement with an increasing temperature, lattice vibrations of the transparent ceramic phosphor decrease due to its more perfect crystal structure and symmetry. Thus, low phonon generation is possible at high temperature. Optical properties of the transparent ceramic phosphor have broader excitation spectra due to a large internal reflection. There is a wide emission band from the green to yellow region, and the red color emission between 610 nm and 640 nm is also observed. The red-yellow phosphor optical characteristics enable a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) in combination with blue emitting LED or LD. Due to its good thermal properties of low phonon generation at high temperature and a wide emission range for high CRI characteristics, the transparent ceramic phosphor is shown to be a good candidate for high power solid state white lighting.

  • We applied the spray pyrolysis technique to prepare Mn-doped $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}$ (BAM) particles with high photoluminescence, which could be used in the plasma display device as a green phosphor. Several preparation conditions were investigated in order to tail the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) characteristics. Some portions of barium were replaced with strontium to improve the luminescent intensity of BAM:Mn particles under VUV excitation. The content of Mn and Sr was optimized to obtain high luminescent efficiency under VUV excitation. Finally, the optimized BAM:Mn green particles showed higher photoluminescence intensity than that of commercial $Zn_2SiO_4$ and comparable with commercial barium-aluminate phosphor.

High Luminance $Zn_2SiO_4$:Mn phosphors Prepared by Homogeneous Precipitation Method

  • Manganese-doped $Zn_2SiO_4$ phosphors well known as a green emitter with high luminescence efficiency were prepared by the homogeneous precipitation method, and their photoluminescence properties under vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) excitation were investigated. $Zn_2SiO_4$:Mn phosphors obtained by this method have exhibited a high luminance of property and a spherical shape of particles. In particular, the green emission intensity of zinc orthosilicate prepared as containing around 2 mole% of manganese was much stronger than that of the commercial $Zn_2SiO_4$:Mn phosphor, while the decay time was longer. However, addition of $Al^{3+}$ and $Li^+$ into $Zn_2SiO_4$:Mn composition has significantly diminished the decay time of the phosphor without much degradation of the emission intensity.

Aging Characteristics of the Green Phosphors for PDP Application

  • The picture quality of a plasma display panel is very sensitive to the phosphor characteristics such as decay time, surface state, and even longevity of phosphor material in itself. In this work, material characteristics of $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$, $Y_2O_3-coated$ $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$, and $YBO_3:Tb$, which are dominant in commercial application, were examined for investigating the aging characteristics of green PDP phosphors. It was found that $Y_2O_3-coated$ $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ are easily degraded at high temperature. However, all the samples were very weak after vacuum annealing. The luminescence intensity was decreased by order of one magnitude.

UVU characteristics of $YBO_{3}$:Tb green phosphor prepared by spray pyrolysis

  • We applied the spray pyrolysis technique to prepare fine $YBO_{3}$:Tb particles with high photoluminescence, which could be used in the plasma display device as a green phosphor. Several preparation conditions were investigated in order to tail the vacuum ultraviolet characteristics of $YBO_{3}$:Tb particles when they were prepared by the spray pyrolysis. As a result, the optimized $YBO_{3}$:Tb particles showed the high photoluminescence intensity as well as fine size in comparison with the commercial one.

  • Mn doped {{{{ {Zn {Ga }_{2 }O }_{4 } }} thin film phosphors were prepared on Si(100) wafers and ITO coated glass substrates by rf magnetron sputtering technique and the effects of the substrates dopant and the sputtering paramet-ers were analyzed, Changes of the oreintation were observed after annealine tratment. The grain size of {{{{ {Zn {Ga }_{2 }O }_{4 } }} : Mn thin film deposited on Si wafer was smaller than that on ITO/glass substrate which resulted in higher PL intensity. The PL spectra of Mn doped {{{{ {Zn {Ga }_{2 }O }_{4 } }} thin films showed sharp green luminescence spec-trum. According to CL spectrum it could be concluded that Mn ions acted as an actuator for green emission by substituting Zn atom sites.
