  • Purpose - This study was aimed to investigate whether the outcomes of green innovation brought positive effects to Chinese firms' ESG performance. Design/methodology/approach - Green innovation patents and ESG performance data of Chinese listed firms were empirically analyzed using panel data fix-effect linear estimations. Findings - The study found that green innovation performance enhanced Chinese firms' ESG performance. Also, the results showed that corporate social responsibility decoupling weakened this relationship and state ownership positively moderated this relationship, whereas corporate philanthropic giving did not have significant impact. Research implications or Originality - The findings indicated that green innovation was beneficial to enhancing corporate sustainability performance. In addition, the study highlighted the role of CSR communications and state ownership in interacting the positive effect that green innovation performance brings to corporate ESG performance.

  • This study reveals the status, perceptions, and future directions associated with green building within construction-related companies. A survey research method was used to capture current experience levels and capabilities of companies with regard to green construction. Expectations and perceptions about the future of the construction industry with regard to green building were obtained from construction-related companies recruiting from the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech from 2006 and 2008. The findings of this study support the growing importance of green building as a component of the whole construction market and provide a benchmark against which to measure future changes in the industry over time.

  • For the purpose of carbon mitigation, Korea needs to introduce stronger market-based economic incentives to promote environmentally-friendly behaviors of consumers. In particular, the government could consider introducing tax benefits on income taxation for green consumption, as well as public education and campaign, to stimulate environmentally-friendly consumption behaviors. In this respect, using an analysis of Input-Output and Household Income and Expenditure Survey in Korea, this paper designs four major scenarios related to income tax benefits for green consumption, and then explores the economy-wide effects of those proposed policies.

  • As the international construction market is rapidly expanding, Korean contractors have the need for having new leading businesses for their sustainable growth and high performance. Thus, this research tried to explore new leading businesses with two questions: 'What can be the new leading businesses?' and 'How can Korean contractors implement new leading businesses?' To this end, based on Porter's five forces framework and the resource-based view (RBV), we first derive three evaluation criteria (possibility of market entry, possibility of profit earning, and possibility of value-added earning). Next, we developed a framework for business evaluation which considers external market condition, internal competitiveness, and spin-off effects toward domestic market. Based on the framework, we defined green-energy plant, environmental plant, desalination plant, nuclear power plant, new urban development, and high-rise building as new leading business. Then, we selected green energy plant, environmental plant, and new urban development for the purpose of prior occupation of the market, consolidation of the competitiveness, and expansion of the ripple effect, respectively. Finally, we deduced market entry strategies for each business by investigating experts' opinions.

  • This paper aims to examine the role of government's support in facilitating small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs)' green dynamic capabilities and green SCM practices in a global market. It also investigates whether government support, green dynamic capabilities, and green SCM practices affect export competitiveness. To develop those hypotheses, prior studies and in-depth interviews were conducted and data was collected from Korean manufacturing companies that export abroad and then developed the structural equation model. The hypotheses test results revealed that green dynamic capabilities through government support positively affect export competitiveness and green SCM practices through green dynamic capabilities have positive effects on export competitiveness. Finally, this study is valuable in that it directly and indirectly confirmed the effect of eco-friendly government support on export competitiveness.

  • Climate change and low-carbon consumer movement is demanding proper response around the world while rising oil price increases consumers' needs for green car. As a preliminary study to establish an industrial platform for green car and bring out corporate strategies, this article aims to propose an academic research framework by using various methodologies including conceptual/mathematical modeling, system dynamics, and ABM from different angles. First, an analysis framework for the industrial platform was introduced to analyze green car cases, required elements were proposed, and econometrics was applied to build a basic model related to green platform (two-sided market). Also, to analyze from a dynamic perspective, a system dynamics model was applied to green car environment to build a system dynamics analysis model that is applicable to particular green car industry analysis. Lastly, an agent based model was used to study the way to activate the hybrid car market in Korea from individual consumers' perspective. Based on the result, vehicle policies that are either being enforced or planned to be enforced in the Korean HEV market can be analyzed.

  • Recently, the green roofs market is active, but most constructors use former waterproofing method. So there are a lot of problems in the sub-organization of the green roofs system. I studied to use the block panel for the sub-organization of the green roofs system and I tested about the effectiveness of waterproofing, root barrier, drainage, and insulation. I have not found any problems about waterproofing, root barrier, drainage, and insulation in the results. The sub-organization of the green roofs system using the block panel is effective for waterproofing, root barrier, drainage, and insulation. We can apply it to the dried and unified execution technology.

  • Purpose In this study, the relationships among environmental information exchange with suppliers(EIES), green collaboration with suppliers, green learning by environmental information, the adoption of green supply-chain management techniques(AGSMT) (i.e., the green purchasing, product design and production, and the recovery of extra facilities and inventories), environmental performance, and the organizational performance of a firm were empirically investigated. Design/methodology/approach Data for this study were drawn from a survey of the current status of EIES levels and AGSMT usage observed in Korean manufacturing firms. In total, 500 organizations were randomly selected from a population of about 1,000 firms that are listed on the Korean stock market. In order to collect empirical data, this research administered questionnaires with the sample firms. Only chief production executives were selected as respondents. A questionnaire with a cover letter was mailed to each respondent. The survey was conducted during a 3-month period between March 2015 and June 2015. Finally, 78 valid data of the sample firms were collected. Findings The results of this study showed that EIES positively affects the green corporation and learning. According to the results, it was observed that both green corporation and green learning have a positive impact on the levels of AGSMT(i.e., the green purchasing, product design and production). It was also demonstrated that AGSMT has a direct positive impact on environmental performance. In examining the effects of environmental performance on the organizational performance of a firm, significant impact was found.
