  • The study aims to identify factors related to landscape structure and socioeconomic characteristics that influence adults' physical activity and health. The study analyzes data from 148,643 respondents from the Korea Community Health Survey conducted in 2021. The study measures various factors, including the frequency of physical activity, stress, depression, and landscape metrics of forest patches. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used, controlling for socio-demographic characteristics. Larger forest patches and more irregular shapes are associated with higher levels of physical activity among adults. The percentage and area of the forest patch are associated with fewer mental health complaints. Configuration-related landscape metrics such as shape or arrangement of the forest patch did not show a significant association with physical activity. Overall, the study provides insights into how specific characteristics of forest patches in urban areas may influence physical activity and mental health among adults. It emphasizes the importance of green spaces and their potential positive effects on both physical and mental well-being.

  • In this study, we intended to extend the life of electropolishing solution through the reduction of electric resistance by improving the electrolysis efficiency. The optimum conditions were obtained by half round bus bar and Taguchi method. As the main control factors in the electropolishing process, current density, polishing time, electrolyte temperature and flow rate were selected. The electrolyte temperature was the most significant to the electrolysis efficiency. The optimum conditions for the life extension of electropolishing solution were as follows: current density, $45A/dm^2$; polishing time, 6 min; electrolyte temperature, $70^{\circ}C$; flow rate, 11 L/min. As a results of ANOVA of SN ratios, it was found that the electrolyte temperature was significant factor at the 90% confidence level.

  • Ecologically sustainable means of development is the point to support environmental homeostasis. One of our roles is to find bio-degradable resources that can be substituted for petroleum-based products to effectively abide by the natural viability. To counter the issues of deforestation and preserve biodiversity, it is necessary to produce a non-wood crop that can fulfill the requirement for raw material from which several products can be produced. Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus), a member of the family Malvaceae, is showing sufficient potentiality along this road-map. Due to its rich fiber content, it has been used extensively in various fields for long, probably as early as 4,000 BC. At present, kenaf has been used as provider of paper, plastics, fiber glass, biofuel, activated carbon and epoxy composite. This obviously catch one's attention towards its capability to replace petroleum-based products as a whole. Moreover, the plant shows considerable relevance in decreasing pollutants by virtue of its enormous absorption capacity. These multiple applications of kenaf justify its credibility to be the best resource for the better world. The paper presents an overview on its numerous uses reported in the literature that we have investigated and its great potential as a valuable multipurpose crop.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the sustainable agriculture of no-tillage technique to minimize tillage problems under rain interception green house condition including recycling of the ridge and the furrow for following cultivation in Korea. Chemical properties in soils were investigated at 3-years after cultivation at conventional tillage [CT; 2-years no-tillage (2009-2010) and 1-year (2011) tillage] and no-tillage [NT; 2009-2011] field. Soil pH maintained between 5.8 and 6.0 irrespectively tillage and no-tillage. Salinity (EC), contents of total nitrogen (TN), cation exchange capacity (CEC), and exchangeable cations (K, Ca and Mg) in soil were remarkably higher in CT than in NT treatment. Salinity (EC), contents of OM, TN, CEC, and exchangeable cations in top soil and subsoil indicated higher deviation in CT than NT treatment. Organic matters and inorganic matters in soil were positive (+) correlation. Suppression of pepper growth and increase of yield were observed in no-tillage soil compared with tillage soil. These results indicated that no-tillage technique in crop culture could play an important role with respect to chemical properties in silt loam soil.

  • The long-term changes in the soil properties are closely related to the policy direction and the national program for the soil management. In this study, chemical properties of paddy soils in Jeonnam province were investigated at four-year interval since 1999 and the factors affecting change of chemical properties were analyzed in relation to the soil management policies. Chemical fertilizers supplied to Jeonnam province reduced by 57% in 2013 as compared with 1999, and the ratio of Jeonnam province to the national fertilizer supply gradually decreased to 14.1% in 2013 from 17.6% in 1999 due to national policies to reduce use of chemical fertilizers in the 2000s. In the chemical analysis of paddy soils in Jeonnam province, pH value tended to increase gradually within the optimal range. Available phosphate and exchangeable potassium content were always higher than the optimal range and showed no significant difference since 1999. Organic matter, exchangeable calcium and available silicate content were found to be lower than average content in the whole country as well optimal range for rice cultivation in 1999, but were higher than average content in the whole country and optimal range in 2011 because of faster rate of increase in Jeonnam province than the other region since the mid-2000s. The cause of increase in organic matter, exchangeable calcium and available silicate contents is considered to be the increased use of green manure crops and by-products fertilizer as an alternatives for conventional application of chemical fertilizers and soil amendment such as silicate fertilizer for agronomic control of the disease and insect pest in rice cultivation of environmentally-friendly agriculture.
