Green tea and type 2 diabetes

  • Green tea and coffee consumption have been widely popular worldwide. These beverages contain caffeine to activate the central nervous system by adenosine receptor blockade, and due to the caffeine, addiction or tolerance may occur. In addition to this caffeine effect, green tea and coffee consumption have always been at the center of discussions about human health, disease, and longevity. In particular, green tea catechins are involved in many biological activities such as antioxidation and modulation of various cellular lipid and proteins. Thus, they are beneficial against degenerative diseases, including obesity, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and various inflammatory diseases. Some reports also suggest that daily consumption of tea catechins may help in controlling type 2 diabetes. However, other studies have reported that chronic consumption of green tea may result in hepatic failure, neuronal damage, and exacerbation of diabetes, suggesting that interindividual variations in the green tea effect are large. This review will focus on the effect of green tea catechins extracted from the Camellia sinensis plant on type 2 diabetes and obesity, and the possible mechanistic explanation for the experimental results mainly from our laboratory. It is hoped that green tea can be consumed in a suitable manner as a supplement to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes and obesity.

  • The purpose of this paper was to study the plans for expanding sustainable consumption. Three plans for expanding sustainable consumption were discussed. That is, 1) the plans for expanding consumer awareness of sustainable consumption, 2) for constructing green infra-structure over the country, and 3) for driving economic motives of sustainable consumption were discussed in detail.

국내 공동주택 부문의 친환경건축 인증 평가 항목 및 사례 분석 (The Analysis on the Evaluation Items of Korea Green Building Certification Criteria by the Case Studies of Collective Housing)

  • Many countries have made their best to protect the earth from global warming and to find solutions for the reduction of carbon dioxide emittion and energy consumption. Especially, buildings have emitted over 40% of carbon dioxide against whole quantities emitted to the earth. Therefore, the reduction of carbon dioxide emitted from buildings require to save the earth environment. Energy consumption of buildings in Korea has reached 24% of total energy quantities, and energy consumption of collective housing has been continuously increasing. So, Korea government has also executed the Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC). The GBCC evaluates the 8 types of buildings - collective housing, office, school, etc - to certificate the green building. In this paper, the evaluation items of collective housing in GBCC were reviewed to be used as the reference data for future revisions by the case studies. According to the results of this study, current version of GBCC requires additional revisions about the evaluations of energy consumption monitoring, commissioning and existing building.

The Role of Moral Deficiency in Moral Consumption Behavior - The Implicit and Explicit Approaches: An Empirical Study from Indonesia

  • This research aims to investigate the relationship between moral deficiency and moral consumption. Consumers' moral values cannot be separated from their consumption activities. In other words, consumers' spending preferences may be an expression of their beliefs about what is right and wrong. A less explored concept within moral consumption behavior theory is 'moral deficiency'. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research effort to integrate green purchasing and religious purchasing under the banner of moral consumption behavior. There are two studies: Study 1 aimed to measure the moral deficiency of participants through moral scenarios (implicit) and then test its relationship with the green purchase and religious purchase, two proxies of moral consumption. A total of 121 universities were chosen via the nonprobability sampling method. To improve the results of the prior study, Study 2 aimed to measure the moral deficiency of participants through moral deficiency self-report (explicit) and then test its effects on green purchase and religious purchase. A total of 208 participants from the general public were recruited via the nonprobability sampling method. The findings of the two studies suggest that participants with high moral deficiency showed more intention to engage in moral consumption behavior.

Factors Affecting Intention to Purchase Green Products in Vietnam

  • The study aims to assess factors affecting intention to purchase green products in Vietnam. The study employs samples from customers who have actually experienced green consumption in Vietnam. The samples were collected by convenient sampling methods. The survey obtained 206 responses with full information. The survey was conducted from October 2019 to January 2020. The measurement scale was a 5-point scale with 1- completely disagree and 5- strongly agree. This study employs factor analysis and structural equation modelling analysis. The results showed that the social and environment sustainability awareness have positive effects on altruism of customers who are interested in green consumption. Altruism also has the same direction on green purchase intention. Besides, the attitude toward buying green and health consciousness affects green purchase intention. At the same time, the altruism and attitude towards buying green products also influence positively on green purchase intention. Besides, the health consciousness positively affects attitude towards buying green products. The results show that the health consciousness has a negative impact on intention to purchase green products. The findings suggest that it is necessary to raise customers' health consciousness, customers' altruism from disseminating knowledge about environmental protection as well as society to enhance the green consumption in Vietnam.

How Consumers Differently Perceive about Green Market Environments: Across Different Consumer Groups in Green Attitude-behaviour Dimension

  • Consumers differ with respect to the level of green attitudes and green purchase behavious and different consumer would have different perceptions on green market environment. This study attempted to explain how consumers perceive green market environment differently across different consumer groups in attitude-behaviour dimension in green consumption. After identifying the four consumer groups based on their attitude toward green purchase and green purchase behaviours, a multinomial logistic analysis and a stepwise discriminant analysis were conducted. This study found that reliability in green market was the most critical factor that contributes to enlarge positive green consumers. Also, the role of reference persons and adequate price of green products were also found to be important to stimulate green buying. By understanding the different role of those factors in each group of consumers, this study provided group-specific implications to expand green consumers.

  • 본 연구에서는 그린 홈의 보급확대와 평가기법 개발을 목적으로 하고 있다. 구체적으로는 기 조사된 실측 데이터를 기본으로 시뮬레이션 결과 값의 보간 및 설비시스템의 교체에 따른 효과 검토를 통하여 에너지 절감량 및 이산화탄소 배출 삭감량 평가 프로그램을 개발하였다. 또한, 그린 홈의 보급확대에 따른 비용 검토를 통하여 그린홈을 건설하는 사업자에게는 지방세법 개정에 따른 취등록세 감면 등의 지원대책을 수립하였다.

중국 소비자의 중용 가치관이 친환경 소비행동에 미치는 영향 (Impacts of Zhongyong Values on Green Consumption Behavior of Chinese Consumers)

  • China has achieved remarkable economic growth through an extended period of rapid industrialization. However, adverse environmental issues have become more prevalent during this time of development. In particular, car exhaust emissions in the country have become one of the most substantial causes of environmental degradation in China. To combat these issues, the Chinese government is actively implementing green car policies to mitigate the negative environmental concerns. Likewise, Chinese consumers' interest in green cars has also increasing. Despite these changes in consumer perceptions, research on Chinese consumers' green consumption behavior is still in its infancy. Therefore, an empirical study was conducted to measure the relationship between zhongyong(中庸) values, new ecological paradigm(NEP), and green consumption behavior for 334 Chinese consumers. As a result, the study found that the three sub-dimensions of zhongyong(中庸) values(multi-dimensionality, flexibility and compatibility) and NEP had a significantly positive(+) effect on the purchase intention of green cars. It was also found that NEP positively mediates the effect of flexibility and harmony on purchase intention of green cars. This study is expected to provide academic outcomes on China, which is currently the world's fastest growing green car market, as well as providing practical strategic implications for establishing unique green marketing strategy for China.

  • Fairchild Green Mode off line buck switch for low standby power consumption and high reliability is presented. By reducing operating current and optimizing switching frequency, 20mW power consumption is achieved. High performance trans-conductance amplifier and green mode function improve the ripple and regulation in the output voltage. The conventional $FPS^{TM}$ buck and novel Fairchild buck switch are compared to show the improvement of performance. Experimental results are showed using 2W evaluation board.

녹차섭취와 운동에 의한 비만 청소년의 혈중 biochemical marker 함량 감소 (Green Tea Intake and Exercise Reduce Some Biochemical Markers of Obese Adolescents)

  • 녹차섭취와 유산소운동이 비만 남자중학생의 체중과 혈중 biochemical marker에 미치는 영향에 관하여 연구하였다. 체지방율이 25% 이상인 비만 남자중학생 36명을 대상으로 대조군(n=9), 녹차처리군(n=9), 운동군(n=9)과 녹차와 운동 병행군(n=9)으로 분류하여, 운동은 주 5회 60분씩 12주간 실시하였고, 녹차는 녹차열수출물을 음용(녹차건중 1.5-1.7 g/일) 하였다. 대조군은 녹차처리군이 섭취한 양의 물을 섭취하였다. 실험 시작전과 12주 후의 혈중 TNF-$\alpha$, IL-6, leptin, TG 및 HDL-C 함량을 측정하였다. 대조군을 포함한 모든 처리군에서 체중 변화는 없었으나 병행군은 복부지방률이 감소하였다. 대조처리는 TNF-$\alpha$, IL-6 및 leptin 함량에 아무런 영향을 미치지 않았다. 녹차처리는 leptin (p<0.05)을 감소시켰고, TG (p<0.01)는 증가시켰다. 운동은 TNF-$\alpha$ (p<0.05), IL-6 (p<0.01) 및 leptin (p<0.05) 함량을 감소시켰다. 또한 녹차처리와 운동 병행은 IL-6 (p<0.05), leptin (p<0.05) 및 HDL-C (p<0.01) 함량을 감소시켰다. 이 결과는 녹차섭취나 운동은 젊은 비만 중학생의 혈중 염증 cytokine인 TNF-$\alpha$α, IL-6 및 leptin 함량 감소에 효과가 있었으나, 녹차섭취와 운동의 병행에 의한 synergy 효과는 없었다.
