  • The Part of slot on rotary compressor which plays an important part of the reliability and performance is studied on machinability and the wear characteristics for the specimen made by sand mold and permanent mold. The experiment are used the face cutter of milling machine which make the processing surface like broaching process and rollblock wear test machine. Permanent-mold casting iron is not affected by variation of RPM of milling machine, but sand-mold cast-iron is improved to increasing RPM. Also sand-mold casting iron shows superior wear characteristic to permanent-mold casting iron. This results from harder matrix of pearlite structure and self-lubrication characteristics of graphite. And wear particles in tested oil show shape and size similar to severe wear particles of oil taken from rotary compressor. The material and surface condition of slot play important part of the reliability and performance.

  • Dichloromethane liquid droplets containing a cobalt dipyrromethene trimer deposited on a graphite surface were found to form coffee ring, toroid ring, or volcano dot structures due to the redistribution of the solute during solvent evaporation. The shapes and size distributions of the ring structures depended on the drying temperature. The shape differences were attributed to the fact that the solvent evaporation rate controlled the self-assembly process that yielded the coffee stain and pinhole structures.

  • Piezoelectric Fiber Composites with Interdigitated Electrodes (PFCIDE) were previously introduced as an alternative to monolithic wafers with conventional electrodes for applications of structural actuation. This paper is an investigation into the performance improvement of piezoelectric fiber composite actuators by changing the matrix material. This paper presents a modified micro-electromechanical model and numerical analyses of piezoelectric fiber/piezopolymer matrix composite actuator with interdigitated electrodes (PFPMIDE). Various concepts from different backgrounds including three-dimensional linear elastic and dielectric theories have been incorporated into the present linear piezoelectric model. The rule of mixture and the modified method to calculate effective properties of fiber composites were extended to apply to the PFPMIDE model. The new model was validated when compared with available experimental data and other analytical results. To see the structural responses of a composite plate integrated with the PFPMIDE, three-dimensional finite element formulations were derived. Numerical analyses show that the shape of the graphite/epoxy composite plate with the PFPMIDE may be controlled by judicious choice of voltages, piezoelectric fiber angles, and elastic tailoring of the composite plate.

  • Commercial pure iron powder and iron powder of coated 0.45% phosphorus were mixed with graphite powder in dry mixer to control carbon content from 0 wt% to 0.8 wt%. Mixed powder was pressed in the mould under the pressure of 510 MPa. Compacts were sintered at 118$0^{\circ}C$ for 40 min. in cracked ammonia gaseous atmosphere. Some of these sintered specimens were quenched in oil, and tempered in Ar gas. All of these specimens were investigated for microstructure, density and hardness in relation to coated phosphorus and carbon content. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The microstructure of the sintered speciments revealed that the amount of pearlite was increased with increasing C content but decreased by P-addition. (2) The P-addition affected the microstructure of pores in which the pore shape became round and its mean size was decreased by P-addition. (3) After tempering of sintered specimens the structure of pearlite was changed from fine structure to coarse one in P added specimen. (4) Hardness was higher in P added specimens.

  • In this study, we compared the strength of a material used in the A-type disk brake with that in the B-type. From tensile test results, it has been found that the strength of the B-type disk brake is higher than that of the A-type. The microstructure observation and chemical analysis were conducted to determine the cause of the difference between the strength of A and B types of disk brake materials. From the experimental results, it has been confirmed that the difference in the strength between the two types of disk brake is due to the difference in the shape of graphite.

  • Recently, expansion of micro-technology parts requires micro-precision machining technology. Micro-groove machining is important to fabricate micro-grating lens and many micro-parts such as microscope lens, fluidic graphite channel etc. Conventional groove fabrication methods such as etching and lithography have some problems in efficiency and surface integrity. But, mechanical micromachining methods using single crystal diamond tools can reduce these problems in chemical process. For this reason, microfabrication methods are expected to be very efficient, and widely studied. This study deals with machinability in micro-precision V-grooves machining of nickel plated layer using non-rotational single crystal diamond tool and 3-axis micro stages. Micro V-groove shape, chip formation and tool wear were investigated for the analysis of machinability of Ni plated layer.

  • Chip breaker of cutting tool is an important feature to enhance cutting performance. Powder injection molding process was used to produce a triangular-shape cermet grooving insert which has three chip breakers. Attrition milled cermet powders were mixed with wax-based binder system in continuous twin screw extruder. Three-plate injection mold with slide cores was used to produce injection-molded parts. After molding, solvent and thermal debinding was carried out. Sintering was conducted in a batch furnace with a graphite heater. The sintered parts satisfy the requirements of dimensional tolerances and material properties.

  • In this work, the effect of the correction fibers direction on the efficiency of repairing damaged composite plates was highlighted. The composite plates studied in this work consist of eight layers of graphite/epoxy, while the patch used in this repair consists of four layers of the same type. The results obtained in this work, whether with regard to the experimental or analytical side, showed that the fibers orientation affects the repair efficiency, so the closer the angle of fibers inclination is to the tensile strength direction, the performance of the composite material is ideal. Hence, we conclude that the composite materials with longitudinal fibers (Parallel to tensile strength) is the most powerful and efficient material in performance.

  • Emitted CO2 is an attractive material for microbial electrochemical CO2 reduction. Microbial electrochemical CO2 reduction (i.e., microbial electrosynthesis, MES) using biocatalysts has advantages compared to conventional CO2 reduction using electrocatalysts. However, MES has several challenges, including electrode performance, biocatalysts, and reactor optimization. In this study, an MES system was investigated for optimizing reactor types, counter electrode materials, and CO2-converting microorganisms to achieve effective CO2 upcycling. In autotrophic cultivation (supplementation of CO2 and H2), CO2 consumption of Rhodobacter sphaeroides was observed to be four times higher than that with heterotrophic cultivation (supplementation of succinic acid). The bacterial growth in an MES reactor with a single-chambered shape was two times higher than that with a double chamber (H-type MES reactor). Moreover, a single-chambered MES reactor equipped with titanium mesh as the counter electrode (anode) showed markedly increased current density in the graphite felt as a working electrode (cathode) compared to that with a graphite felt counter electrode (anode). These results demonstrate that the optimized conditions of a single chamber and titanium mesh for the counter electrode have a positive effect on microbial electrochemical CO2 reduction.

  • Ductile cast iron has a good ductility and ductility and toughness than those of gray cast iron, because the shape of graphite is spheroidal. It has been reported that the strengthening and toughening of the ductile cast iron was resulted from the good modification of various matrix structures obtained by the heat treatment or addition of alloying elements. This study aims to investigate the effect of various special heat treatment(Cyclic Heat Treatment, Intermediate Heat Treatment, Step Quenching), austempering and alloying element(Ni) on the strength and toughness of ductile cast iron. The results obtained from this study are summarized as follows. 1) With addition of Ni, the amount of pearlite or bainite were increased and the morphologies of pearlite or bainite became finer by special heat treatments. 2) As the Ni added and not added ductile cast iron were treated by austenitizing at $900^{\circ}C$ and $840^{\circ}C$, in the latter the austenite was mostly formed in the vicinity of eutectic cell boundary, but in the former on the whole matrix. 3) In cyclic heat treatment, the volume fraction of pearlite was increased and the shape of pearlite was fined with increase of the number of cycle. 4) The shape of pearlite was mostly bar type in the intermediate heat treatment, but spheroidal type in step quenching. 5) The mechanical properties of ductile cast iron containing 1.5%Ni austempered at $400^{\circ}C$ for 25min. after austenitizing at $900^{\circ}C$ for 15min. were a good value of hardness 105(HRB), impact energy 12.5(kg.m), tensile strength 112($kg/mm^2$) and elongation 6.8(%).
