Design and Implementation of Event Notification System for Real-time Tracking in Logistics

  • With the proliferation of smart devices, applications under ubiquitous environment must provide transparent access to computer resources. However, existing u-Logistics systems can not properly react on such requirements, because the status information of objects is input only in fixed milestones by system's operators. In this paper, we introduce an event notification service suitable for u-Logistics environment. The system is based on RFID infrastructure and provides real-time tracking by combining the event of objects with location information received from GPS satellites. The system also provides a graphical user interface based on a state/transition approach, making it easy that clients facilitate definition of profile, and uses XML structure to more easily represent and exchange events.

Semiparametric and Nonparametric Modeling for Matched Studies

  • This study describes a new graphical method for assessing and characterizing effect modification by a matching covariate in matched case-control studies. This method to understand effect modification is based on a semiparametric model using a varying coefficient model. The method allows for nonparametric relationships between effect modification and other covariates, or can be useful in suggesting parametric models. This method can be applied to examining effect modification by any ordered categorical or continuous covariates for which cases have been matched with controls. The method applies to effect modification when causality might be reasonably assumed. An example from veterinary medicine is used to demonstrate our approach. The simulation results show that this method, when based on linear, quadratic and nonparametric effect modification, can be more powerful than both a parametric multiplicative model fit and a fully nonparametric generalized additive model fit.

  • A systematic procedure is proposed that can be used to assess the span of PSC girder bridge for a given condition. The proposed scheme adopts a graphical approach that represents a relationship between the number of prestressing tendons and the span, and is derived on a basis of safety assessment equations of the girder in each stage of fabrication and in service.

  • In this paper, we present an object-based modeling and language for an object-oriented spatio-temporal database system. For handling the structure of spatio-temporal objects and the spatio-temporal operators, we propose the two layers of data modeling: a spatio-temporal object model (STOM) and an spatio_temporal internal description model (STIM). We then propose STOQL, a spatio-temporal object-oriented query language. STOQL provides an integrated mechanism for the graphical display of spatial objects and the retrieval of spatio-temporal and aspatial objects.

  • Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) has enabled a visually appealing, browser-based application for the display of Brassica sequences relative to Arabidopsis thaliana, and there are currently more than 70,000 B. napus Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) displayed. The client side of this browser is based on a Custom Graphical User Interface (CGUI) library which uses SVG, a new web graphics standard, to provide windowing functionality inside the web browser. This windowing functionality, combined with asynchronous data retrieval and client side rendering overcomes two of the key technology imposed drawbacks of current web based browsers: Fixed displays and frequent page reloads. The end result is an intuitive and enjoyable browsing experience. The browser is accessible online from the Brassica / Arabidopsis Genomics Initiative (http://brassica.agr.gc.ca).   • In this paper, we propose a new shape compensation scheme to make up for the difference in groove radius between the formed tools and the machined bearing raceways, which inherently takes place during machining the ball bearing raceways by the turning process using conventional formed tools. The associated conventional methods of the formed tool design and its modification such as a simple depth compensation method and a graphical compensation method are introduced and the latter, which has been known to be the better of the two, is experimentally investigated in detail to reveal its drawback. The algorithm is given and it is applied to develop a formed tool design program. The program developed by the presented approach is successfully applied to design the formed turning tool for the bearing raceways.

The analysis of the low-flow statistics using regression model at the Chonbuk regional ungaged basin (회귀모형을 이용한 전북지역 미계측 유역의 저유량 해석)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the low-flow statistics at the mountainous watershed. The formulation for the estimation of the design low-flow statistics was obtained by means of a hydraulic approach applied to a simple conceptual model for a mountainous watershed. Three of the independent variables associated with the low-flow statistics is watershed area(A), average basin slope(S) and the base flow recession constant(K); Watershed area was measured from topographic maps and average basin slope is approximated in this study using Strahler's slope determining method. And base flow recession constant computed using Vogel and Kroll's method. Unfortunately, this method is usually unavailable at ungaged sites. In this study, recession constant at ungaged sites is estimated using graphical regression method used by Giese and Mason. The model for estimating low-flow statistics were applied to all 61 catchments in the Sumjin, Mankyung basin.

  • In this paper, we present a useful method of estimating earth resistivity using BP algorithm in Neural-Networks. From this method, equivalent earth resistivity(EER) can be obtained directly using training data composed of field-measured apparent resistivity and probe distance. This approach can reduce errors which is conventionally raised from manual operation of calculating EER. To evaluate its accuracy and convenience, the result of proposed method is compared to that of conventional methods, graphical($\rho$-a graph) and numerical(CDEGS program), respectively.

  • Unstructured workspaces which are typical in construction contain unpredicable activities as well as changing environments. Most automated and semi-automated construction tasks require real-time information about the local workspace in the form of 3D geometric models. This paper describes and demonstrates a new rapid, local area geometric data extraction and 3D visualization method for unstructured construction workspaces that combines human perception, simple sensors, and descriptive CAD models. The rapid approach will be useful in construction in construction in order to optimize automated equipment tasks and to significantly improve safety and a remote operator's spatial perception of the workspace.

  • This paper is concerned with stereo vision-based approach to detect obstacles and to generate the path of destination from the start. The hexapod robot in the experiment is cable of walking by legs and driving by wheels simultaneously. The hexapod robot operates under the driving mode normally, and it changes driving mode to walking mode to overcome obstacles using its legs. Disparity map, which is the correlation between two images taken by stereo camera, is employed for calculation of the distance between the robot and obstacles. When the obstacles information is extracted from the disparity map, the potential field algorithm is applied to create the obstacle-avoidance path. Simulator, based on OpenGL, is developed to generate the graphical path, and the experimental results are shown for the verification of the proposed algorithm.
