Bee venom (BV) has been used as a treatment for a wide variety of ailments such as inflammatory diseases in korean traditional medicine. Despite its well documented anti-inflammatory property, it has not been fully demonstrated regarding the influence of BV against Propionibactierium acnes (P. acnes), which promotes follicular inflammation (inflammatory acne). This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory property of BV against P. acnes in vivo. To induce inflammation in vivo using P. acnes, $1{\times}10^7$ CFU of living P. acnes were intradermally injected into the ear of mice. BV (1, 10, 100 ${\mu}g$) in vaseline was applied epicutaneously on the ear resulting in P. acnes-induced ear swelling and inflammation. Epicutaneous administration of BV with P. acnes decreased the number of infiltrated inflammatory cells and inflammatory cytokines in the ear, thereby relieving P. acnes-induced ear swelling and granulomatous inflammation, especially at the dose of 1 ${\mu}g$ of BV. In this report, we demonstrated the therapeutic effects of BV on P. acnes-induced inflammation in vivo using the mouse model. These data highlight the potential of using BV as an alternative treatment to the antibiotic therapy of acne vulgaris.

6개월령의 중성화 수컷 고양이가 3일전 관찰된 간헐적인 혈뇨로 내원하였다. 신체검사 및 실험실 검사 결과 특이소견이 관찰되지 않았다. 초음파 검사 결과 복부 중간부분에서 $2{\times}2cm$ 크기의 분리된 낭성 병변이 확인되었다. 병변 내부 물질의 세포학적 검사 결과 다량의 콜레스테롤 결정과 대식구 주종의 육아종성 염증반응이 확인되었다. CT검사에서 낭성 병변은 복부 좌측에 위치하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 환자는 편측성(좌측) 신장 이형성 및 콜레스테롤 결정에 의한 낭 내 염증으로 진단하였다.

Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare tumor which is usually presented with a nontender nodule on a distal extremity. It is sometimes confused with granulomatous process or chronic inflammation. We report of a case of epithelioid sarcoma on a foot of an adult male, which progressed rapidly.

Splenic tuberculosis is an uncommonly considered diagnosis in clinical practice. This is a case report of splenic tuberculosis in a 13-year-old boy who was seronegative to HIV. He was just well until 7 days prior to this admission when he started to feel epigastric and left subchondral pain. Chest X-ray was not pathological. Abdominal ultrasonography showed slight splenomegaly with multiple hypoechoic nodules and abdominal CT disclosed multiple irregular hypodense lesions in the spleen. Radiological interpretation suggested the possibility of lymphoma or metastatic malignancy. Splenectomy was done and the histopathological findings showed extensive chronic granulomatous inflammation compatible with tuberculosis. Splenic tuberculosis must be included in the differential diagnosis of hypoechoic and hypodense lesions by means of sonography and computed tomography, respectively.

Unusual yellowish-green intramuscular granulomatous lesions were found in a carcass of Hanwoo(slaughtered, 30 month old). Those were 1-3 mm in diameter, oval shaped, and paralleled with muscle fibers. Histologically, severe inflammation, eosinophilic granulomas and necrosis were observed in the muscle tissue. We also observed sarcocysts in the muscle cells. In a polymerase chain reaction, we identified 900bp length, sarcocystis specific fragment. It would be diagnosed as sarcocystosis in Hanwoo.

Histopathological changes in the pancreas of bovine eurytremiasis were dilatation and thickning of the pancreatic ducts inwhich infiltration of eosinophils and lymphocytes was prominent. The mucous epithelium showed papilliferous and adenomatoid hyperplasia. Proliferation of tissue mast cells in the mucosa propria of the pancreatic ducts was recognized. In addition, granulomatous inflammation was accompanied with the death of Eurytrema in the pancreatic ducts. Granuloma formation around Eurytrema eggs which were embolized in the lung of rabbit was observed on 15 and 20 days after injection.

It has been reported that the pulmonary mycosis generally results from saprophytic colonization of pre-existing lung cavities usually due to pulmonary tuberculosis etc. Culture of homogenized tissues yield pure colony of slightly brown on the Sabouraud dextrose medium. The fungus was identified as the Scophulariopsis brevieaulis which had been rarely reported in pulmonary fungal infection. Histopathological examination of excised tissues revealed a chronic granulomatous inflammation and many branched hyphal mass. Susceptibility tests were tested with ketoconazole, griseofulvin, nystatin, and amphotericin B. Of these antifungal agents, ketoconazole and griseofulvin proved to be most effective and minimum inhibitory concentration was $10{\mu}g/ml,\;50 {\mu}g/ml$, respectively.

Empyema necessitatis is a rare complication of an empyema. Although the incidence is thought to be decreased in the post-antibiotic era, immunocompromised patients such as patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis are still at a higher risk. A 56-year-old woman on peritoneal dialysis presented with an enlarging mass on the right anterior chest wall. The chest computed tomography scan revealed an empyema necessitatis and the histopathologic findings revealed a granulomatous inflammation with caseation necrosis. The patient was treated with anti-tuberculous medication.

The Tolosa-Hunt syndrome is a symptom complex with unilateral painful ophthalmoplegia associated with retro-orbital pain, proptosis and Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ-1, Ⅵ cranial nerves palsy due to nonspecific granulomatous inflammation in the superior orbital fissure or cavernous sinus. We experienced a 50 years old female patient with Tolosa-Hunt syndrome who had several clinical signs and symptoms such as ocular pain, headache, sensory loss of face, diplopia, and visual disturbance. In the point of Differentiation of Syndrome(辨證). this subject was diagnosed as Deficiency of yin in liver and kidney(肝腎陰虛), and was administrated with Yangyeummyungmoktang-Gamibang. After treatment of acupuncture and herbal medicine above symptoms were improved.
