  • The variation of sintered density and fain size in ex-AUC, ex-ADU and granulated ex-ADU UO$_2$ pellets in which 0.1~1.0wt% Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ were doped were examined. Pellets were sintered in an atmosphere of H$_2$ at 1$700^{\circ}C$ for 4h. All the specimens tested shooed more than 94% T.D.(Theoretical Density). Sintered density decreased with increasing the amount of Nb$_2$O$_{5}$. Powder types had little influence on the sintered density. Pore size distribution was shifted to the larger ones as Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ was added. The increase of total pore volume and grain growth due to the addition of Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ were thought to be the cause of the sintered density decrease. The largest grain size was seen in the 1. 0wt% Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ doped ex-AUC UO$_2$ pellets. Their average size was 13.9 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.m}$.

  • An alkaline activator was synthesized by dissolving waste glass powder (WGP) in NaOH-4M solution to explore its effects on the Class-C fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) based alkali-activated material (AAM). The compressive strength and porosity were measured, and (SEM-EDX) were used to study the hydration mechanism and microstructure. Results indicated that the composition of alkali solutions was significant in enhancing the properties of the obtained AAM. As the amount of dissolved WGP increased in alkaline solution, the silicon concentration increased, causing the accelerated reactivity of FA/GGBS to develop Ca-based hydrate gel as the main reaction product in the system, thereby increasing the strength. Further increase in WGP dissolution led to strength loss, which were believed to be due to the excessive water demand of FA/GGBS composites to achieve optimum mixing consistency. Increasing the GGBS proportion in a composite also appeared to improve the strength which contributed to develop C-S-H-type hydration.

  • Most of the existing research on ferronickel slag has focused on its potential as aggregate and fine aggregate, this study was conducted focusing on the potential of ferronickel slag powder as a concrete admixture. For concrete, which fly ash, blast furnace slag, and FSP were mixed with each 10 % type the reactivity was evaluated by applying ASTM C 1260 of the United States. As a result, compared with the control group, the expansion rate of fly ash decreased by 8.43 % and that of fine blast furnace slag powder decreased by 14.46 %, while the expansion rate of ferronickel slag decreased by 49.40 %. it was confirmed that ferronickel slag can sufficiently be replaced existing supplementary cementitious admixtures such as fly ash and blast furnace slag in terms of suppressing the reactivity of aggregates. However as a result of SEM analysis, ettringites were generated, and additional research about how it affects concrete is needed.

  • In this Paper, concrete durability, coefficient variation of compressive strength, and hydration heat development characteristics of concrete using different types binder for 2nd Phase Construction in IIA were investigated. The experimental results show that the coefficient variation of compressive strength decreased with the slag cement when compared with the replacement of granulated blast furnace slag powder. And the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion decreased with use of a blended cement when compared with using a only portland cement. Also the type of low heat cement is very suitable to reduce the thermal crack caused by hydration heat development.

  • Using two kinds of ZrO2 powder stabilized by 8 mol% and 3 mol% of Y2O3 several microstructures were designed; two single composition specimens of 8 mol% Y2O3-ZrO3 and 3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 and five mixture specimens with multi-layered structure and particulate mixture structure at a mixing ratio of 1:1 by weight. Electrical conductivities were measured from 250 to 75$0^{\circ}C$ in air using an impedance analyser, and fracture toughness at room temperature using the indentation method. Making the mixture structures was more effective in enhancing fracture toughness than electrical conductivity. At low temperatures 3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 showed the highest values in both electrical conductivity and fracture toughness, while at high temperature the specimens of alternately stacked planar and coarse granulated structure were most favorable.

  • In ultra-high strength SFRCC(Steel Fiber Reinforced Cementious Composites), much silica fume are used to improve strength, flowability and durability. Silica fume have merits of filling the voids, enhancement of reheological chracteristics, production of secondary hydrates by pozzolanic reaction in reactive powder concretes. However silica fume has been imported in high-cost in domestic industry, we need to investigate replaceable material in stead of silica fume in a view of economy Therefore, in this paper, in order to investigate replacement of silica fume in ultra-high strength SFRCC we used the granulate blast-furnce slag with finess 4000, 6000, 8000. As a results, we have evaluated that the bigger the finess the more increase compressive strength of ultra-high strength SFRCC using the blast-furnce slag and there was no problem from the viewpoint of flowability and compressive strength when we use blast-furnce $50\%$ with replacement ratio of silica fume

  • In order to traffic safety during winter season, snowfall and cold area has been spread the deicing chemicals, and the spraying amount is increasing every year. Use of deicing chemicals has been and will continue to be a major part of highway snow and ice control methods. Chloride-containing chemicals such as calcium chloride or rock salt are main deicers for the road. Extensive use of chloride deicers is, however, the source of substantial cost penalties due to their corrosive action and acceleration to deterioration concrete structures. Deterioration due to de-icer salt occurs in practice in concrete pavement, dike, barrier and similar structure. This paper reports the results of effect of de-icer salt on durability of concrete structure in winter. To protect concrete structure from damage by de-icer salt in winter, the exposure test was performed using three methods such as increase in design strength upto 32MPa application of granulated blast furnace slag powder, and concrete sealer. Of these, the method of increase in design strength upto 32MPa showed better durability for deterioration by de-icer salt.

  • In this study, pore-containing barium titanate ceramics were prepared with different porosities and pore sizes, in order to better understand how porosity and pore size affect electrical breakdown of barium titanate ceramics. A granulated barium titanate powder was mixed with three grades of commercial polymer microspheres up to 11wt%. The electrical breakdown test was performed at two different temperatures of 30.deg. C(below Tc) and 150.deg. C(above Tc) for samples immersed in a silicon oil bath using a 60kV de power supply. Electrical breakdown strength of pore containing barium titanate ceramics with porosity lower than 10% decreased as pore size and porosity increased. However, above the 10% porosity region, electrical breakdown strength decreased as the pore connectivity increased. From the experimental results, an optimum electrical breakdown model is proposed in an attempt to explain the effect of pores.

  • The nonuniform shrinkage has been investigaed in pressureless sintering of $\alpha$-SiC, where born carbide and phenolic resin as a carbon source are used as densification aids. Compacted specimens, prepared from the granulated powder, were sintered at 215$0^{\circ}C$ for 30min in Ar atmosphere. Using the fresh and unseasoned graphite crucible, the upwarped specimens were obtained, while specimens were uniformly shrunk in the seasoned crucible. This effect is mainly due to the nonuniform distributjion of boron carbide during heatig, which originates in the reaction of boron carbide with CO gas, providing from the result of SiO2 reduction with carbon during heating.

  • Magnetic and physical properties of sintered bodies prepare from waste sintered barium hexaferrite magnets which were come from fabrication process of isotropic permanent magnets were investigated. The properties of the sintered bodies were characterized by XRD, XRF, SEM, and BH curve tracer. After the waste permanent magnets were milled and granulated, the granules of the waste permanent magnet powders and the commercial granules were mixed with various proportions, pressed, and sintered. although the magnetic properties were decreased gradually with the content of waste magnet powder, the magnetic characteristics of the sintered magnets at $1150~1200^{\circ}C$ were comparable to those required for isotropic permanent magnets.
