Most operation related to the application granular agrochemicals in korea are manual and labour consuming. As a multipurpose granular applicator, a pneumatic granular applicator that can be attached to conventional ride -on machines for paddy field was designed in this study. Experiments and simulations were carried out for determine in the design factors with one fertilizer (DongBu 21-17-17) and one pesticide (SamKong Ivi). The maximum terminal velocity of granular chemicals was estimated as 14.2m/s. A better distribution pattern was obtained at the diffuser having only deflectors without dividing guides. The diffuser spacing 1.0m for the fertilizer and the diffuser spacing 0.8m for the pesticide at the boom height over 0.80m were acceptable for the uniform distribution. In the case that the forward speed of ride-on machines was 0.7m/s, the groove opening and the roller speed of the selected metering device were13mm -15mm at 2 rps for the fertilizer, and 9 mm-11mm at 0.25rps or the pesticide. This study suggested a method of developing a pneumatic applicator for granular agrochemicals.
The solubility in water of granular pesticides is not equal because the difference of methods of producing a granular pesticide. This study was conducted to investigate fish acute toxicity of butachlor 5% GR, fipronil 0.4% GR by impregnation and carbosulfan 3% GR, diazinon 0.4% GR by coating, using carp (C. carpio), medaka (O. tatipes) and loach (M. anguillicaudatus). The test solution of each pesticide was prepared by direct addition of granular pesticide and add after grinding granular pesticide to powder in test water, We also investigated $LC_{50}$ and residual concentration until 96 hours. Test results were appeared that the treatment of powder was 1.2~4 time higher than granular and toxicity increased clearly according to elapsed time, And the residual amounts by time were detected much at early time in the powder treatment of butachlor GR and diazinon GR. Conclusively, fish acute toxicity and residual concentration in test solution appeared higher in the powder treatment than treat granular form directly in water. Also, 96 hours toxicity values were stable comparatively and the error is less than 48 hours.

This study investigated the decomposition of fenitrothion in Smithion, which is applied on the golf course for pesticide, by the integrated Zero-valent iron(ZVI) and Granular activated carbon(GAC) process. First, the removal efficiencies of the fenitrothion by ZVI and GAC, respectively, were investigated. Second, the removal efficiencies of the fenitrothion by the integrated ZVI and GAC were investigated. The removal efficiencies of fenitrothion by ZVI were higher than those of TOC. The removal efficiencies of fenitrothion and TOC by GAC were similar. As the dosages of ZVI and GAC were increased, the removal efficiencies of fenitrothion and TOC increased. However, as the dosages of ZVI for pretreatment were increased, the adsorptions of fenitrothion on GAC were hindered.
This study was accomplished to develop a pneumatic granular applicator that can be attached to the conventional ride-on rice transplanter. Operating conditions of a metering device for the applicator were determined so as to obtain the required discharge rate of granules for field application. The shape and size of diffuser was selected for the applicator and the spacing between diffusers on a boom and the boom height were determined as an optimal application condition for uniform distribution. The diffuser spacing of 1m for the fertilizer and the diffuser spacing of 0.8m for the pesticide at the boom height over 0.8m were acceptable.
BACKGROUND: This study carried out to fate of pesticide and investigate worker exposure of pesticide in air after applying granular type pesticide formulation on soil in greenhouse for preventing farmer's pesticide intoxication. METHODS AND RESULTS: The recovery of pesticide, cadusafos, ethoprophos and probenazole on absorbent in air were ranged 80.9~121.1% in charcoal and 90.6~99.0% in XAD-4, respectively. Emission rate of in lysimeter was higher 3~5 times than that of pesticides from topsoil not added water at $35^{\circ}C$ plot after applying a mixture of granular formulation and soil. The ethoprophos concentration in air, 50 cm high from soil surface at greenhouse, was reached the highest 186.4 ${\mu}g/m^3$ within 13 hours and were ranged 17.8~186.4 ${\mu}g/m^3$ during 46 hours after applying granular formulation at dose rate 150 g a.i./245 $m^2$. The cadusafos concentration in air at greenhouse was reached the highest 37.3 ${\mu}g/m^3$ within 39 hours and were ranged 10.0~37.3 ${\mu}g/m^3$ during 46 hours after applying granular formulation at dose rate 180 g a.i./245 $m^2$. The probenazole concentration in air at greenhouse was reached the highest 1.45 ${\mu}g/m^3$ within 37 hours and were ranged 0.23~1.45 ${\mu}g/m^3$ during 46 hours after applying granular formulation at dose rate 144 g a.i./245 $m^2$. CONCLUSION(s): The result of the reentry interval study demonstrated that reentry intervals for ethoprophos and cadusafos are longer than 48 hours.
In order to commercialize Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 and to minimize its harmful side effects, four granular formulations were prepared using AC-1 powder, adjuvant, and carrier and then their physicochemical properties of the formulations were investigated. Out of the carriers tested, the best one was talc for the formulation. Viable cells was stabilized during the formulating process. Viable cells in the granules formulated with Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 powder were stabilized at storage temperature range ($4{\sim}50^{\circ}C$) after 12 weeks. The release rate of viable cells from granules into water under a static condition were eluted over 90% in 7 hours and breakdown rates of particle were 100% in 1 day. Among the tested formulations, granular formulation comprising of 20% of Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 powder, 7% of polycarboxylate as surface active agent, 1% of sodium polyacrylate as adjuvant, the rest as carrier showed to be best.
In order to minimize harmful side effects, extend weed control performance, and control the releasing rate of the active ingredient, dicamba controlled release granular formulations were prepared with starch as matrix. Leaching, soil residue, and volatilization of the granules were compared with dicamba soluble concentrate formulation (SL). Leaching of dicamba through the soil applied with the granules could be reduced more than 50% as compared with that of dicamba SL. The half life of dicamba in loamy soil treated with the granules was 50 to 51 days, while that in sand loamy soil was 50 to 58 days. Whereas, the half life of dicamba in loamy and sand loamy soil applied with dicamba SL was 24 and 22 days, respectively. Volatilization of dicamba from the granules was 10 times less than that of dicamba SL.
Golf course community has always been concerned about water quality regarding to pesticide and fertilizer managements. This study conducted to investigate sorption and leaching behavior of common pesticides used for golf course in granular activated carbon I (GAC 1), granular activated carbon II(GAC II), and charcoal. We used batch study to investigate the influence of concentrations of Smithion and Folicur and particle sizes of GAC I, GAC II, and charcoal on sorption. Also, column study was used to investigate the leaching effect of Smithion in GAC I and charcoal. We found that sorption of Smithion and Folicur were higher in less $45{\mu}m$ of particle size for GAC I, GAC II, and charcoal compared to $1.7{\sim}2.0mm$ size, and the sorption of Smithion and Folicur in less $45{\mu}m$ of particle size ranged from 90 to 99%. In the column study, there was no difference in leaching effect between GAC I and charcoal. Overall, we found that charcoal might offer a cost effective adsorbent as a pesticides in leachate.
A nation-wide fact-finding survey was done to provide the basic information for establishing the rational weed control scheme in paddy rice. A total of 445 respondents including 273 farmers and 172 pesticide dealers was involved in this survey. Dominant weeds in rice paddy field were Echinochloa crus-galli, Eleocharis kuroguwai, Sagittaria pygmaea, Sagittaria trifolia, etc.. Preferred herbicides widely used by farmners were ranked in the following order; butachlor 5GR, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl + molinate 5.07GR, molinate + cinosulfuron 5.08GR, meanwhile, those recommended by pesticide dealers were; pyrazosulfuron-ethyl + molinate 5.07GR, molinate + cinosulfuron 5.08GR, and butachlor 5GR. The guidelines to choose the preferred herbicides was primarily based on the experience, which was occupied about 45%. Approximately 56% of the farmers followed the recommended herbicide dosage and 43% of them applied the herbicides before weed germination (pre-emergence treatment). In addition, most farmers applied herbicides at least two times with systematic application schedule. Application method of granular formulation was broadcasting by hand, while that of sprayable ones was by high-pressure sprayer. Some farmers answered that they had experienced phytotoxicity in the crop by applied herbicides, of which higher experience was observed from the farmers who applied by high-pressure sprayer. It was analyzed significantly that the feasible herbicides to cause phytotoxicity in rice at farmer's level were butachlor 5GR, esprocarb + pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 5.07GR and bensulfuron-methyl + molinate 5.17 GR.
The present study was performed to elucidate pesticide residues in paddy rice applied with different application schedules and frequencies of pesticide formulations. Pungsanbyeo($Japonica{\times}Indica hybrid$) of rice(Oryza sativa L.) was chosen as target crop. Isoprothiolane(diisopropyl-l,3-dithiolan-2-ylidene malonate) 40EC (emulsifiable concentrates), 12G (granular), and chlorpyriphosmethyl [0,0-dimethyl 0-(3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl) phosphorothioate] 25EC, 3G were selected as pesticide formulations. The closer the isoprothiolane EC application to harvest, the higher the residues in rice straw retained at harvest; however the G application on 30 days before harvest resulted in highest residue. Chlorpyriphosmethyl residues were higher as it was applied nearby to harvest. Degradation rate of chlorpyriphos-methyl in husked rice was quite similar to in rice straw, on the other hand isoprothiolane in the rice was more stable than that in rice straw. Translocated amount of applied G formulation to husked rice was meager irrespective to the chemicals. Percent reduction of isoprothiolane residues in husked rice by polishing was not related to application frequencies but to application date before harvest. Residual portions in rice straw, husked rice and polished rice of total input amount during rice cultivation were ranged from 0.19% to 0.99%, 0.01% to 0.48%, and 0.15%, respectively.
