$Bi_2O_3$와 CaO 첨가에 따른 PLC용 자심 재료의 물성 (Dependence of the physical properties for magnetic core materials on the concentrations of $Bi_2O_3$ and CaO)

  • The Physical and magnetic properties such as microstructure, permeability and power loss of Ni-Zn ferrite with composition of $Ni_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, were investigated as the function of $Bi_2O_3$ and CaO contents. The power loss increased in proportion to the amount of $Bi_2O_3$ up to 0.3 wt% but it decreased over than 0.3 wt% addition. The highest permeability of 134 was obtained to the specimen added 1.0 wt% $Bi_2O_3$ since $Bi_2O_3$ contents were strongly dominant to grain growth and size than that of CaO. $Bi_2O_3$ liquid phase created during sintering process promoted sintering and grain growth so that grain size and permeability increased compared to that of the specimens which were sintered with free-additive and CaO. Also, lots of pores existed in the specimen which was added $Bi_2O_3$ wt% with the biggest grain size.

고출력 압전 디바이스 응용을 위한 PZ-PT-PMN계 압전 세라믹의 특성 (The Characteristics of PZ-PT PMN Piezoelectric Ceramics for Application to High Power Device)

  • The piezoelectric properties and the doping effect for $0.95Pb(Zr_xTi_{l-x})O_3+0.O5Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$compositions were studied. Also, the heat generation and the change of electromechanical characteristics, the important problem in practical usage, were investigated under high electric field driving. As a experiment results under low electric field, the value of $k_p$ and ${\varepsilon}_{33}^T$ were maximized, but $Q_m$ was minimized $(k_p=0.57, Q_m=1550)$ in the composition of x=0.51. In order to increase the values of $Q_m$, $Nb_2O_5$ was used as a dopant. As the result of that, the grain size was suppressed and the uniformity of grain was improved. Also, the values of $k_p$ decreased, and the values of $Q_m$ increased with doping concentration of $Nb_2O_5$ . As a experiment results under high electric field driving, when vibration velocity was ower than 0.6[m/s], the temperature increase was 20[℃], and the change ratio of mechanical quality factor was less than 10[%]. So, its electromechanical characteristics was very stable. Conclusively, piezoelectric ceramic composition investigated at this paper is suitable for application to high power piezoelectric devices.

  • Si3N4, AlN and Y2O3 powder mixtures of the Y0.1(Si, Al)12(N, O)16 composition were hot-pressed at 1900℃ for 0 to 60 min under 30 MPa in order to fabricate the partially-stabilized α-Sialon ceramics (X=0.1). Room and high temperature flexural strengths of the specimens were compared with those of Si3N4-5 wt%Y2O3, Si3N4-5 wt%Y2O3-2 wt%Al2O3, and β-Sialon (Z=0.5) ceramics. The flexural strength of the α-Sialon ceramics which was hot-pressed for 15 min showed the highest value of 820 MPa at 1400℃ that is relatively higher temperature. It is guessed that a little amount of glassy phase existed in grain boundary because Y2O3 and AlN components were incoperated in Si3N4 grains, or transient liquid phase sintering, and microstructure with the smaller grain size and the interlocked grains of α'-and β-Si3N4 was obtained by the hot-pressing at high temperature of 1900℃ for the short time (15 min).

Recent Advances in Microstructural Tailoring of Silicon Nitride Ceramics and the Effects on Thermal Conductivity and Fracture Properties

  • Tailoring the microstructure and the composition of silicon nitride ceramics can have profound effects on their properties. Here it is shown that the grain growth behavior, in particular its anisotropy, is a function of the specific additives, which allow one to tune the microstructure from one consisting of more equiaxed grains to one with very elongated grains. Recent studies are discussed that provide an understanding of the atomic level processes by which these additives influence grain shapes. Next the microstructural (and compositional) parameters are discussed that can be used to modify the thermal conductivity, as well as fracture toughness of silicon nitride ceramics. As a result of the open <0001> channels in $\beta-Si_3N_4$, the c-axis conductivity can be exceptionally high. Thus, the formation of elongated c-axis grains, particularly when aligned can result in conductivity values approaching those of AlN ceramics. In addition, the controlled formation of elongated grains can also be used to significantly enhance the fracture toughness. At the same time, both properties are shown to be affected by the composition of the densification additives. Utilizing such understanding, one will be able to tailor the ceramics to achieve the properties desired for specific applications.

EFFECT OF VARIETY ON YIELD AND NUTRITIVE VALUE OF RICE STRAW

  • Seven varieties of rice were cultivated in the field of BLRI of which three were native (Maloti, Nizershail and Chandrashail) and four were improved ($BR_3$, $BR_{11}$, Pasam and Mala). Yields of straw and grain were recorded and the chemical composition of straw was determined. Both the grain (p < 0.05) and straw (p > 0.05) yields were higher in the improved than the native varities. Relationships of straw dry matter yield with the hights of rice plants, tiller numbers, levels of N fertilizer and lengths of stover were found to be statistically insignificant. No significant differences were observed among the varieties in respect of NDF, cell soluble, cellulose and hemicellulose contents. However, modified acid detergent fibre and insoluble ash content were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in the local varieties. Except $BR_3$, the estimated ME content of straw was higher in the improved than the native varieties. In respect of yield, chemical composition and energy content improved straws were better and Pasam was the best.

CeO2 안정화 정방정 Zirconia 다결정체(Ce-TZP)에 관한 연구(IV) : 12 Ce-TZP 세라믹스에 미치는 MgO 첨가 영향 (A Study on the Ceria Stabilized Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystals (Ce-TZP) (IV) ; Effect of MgO Addition on 12 Ce-TZP Ceramics)

  • For theinvestigation of MgO addition effect on 12Ce-TZP ceramics, MgO-CeO2-ZrO2 ceramics was fabricated using commercial powders under sintering condition of 130$0^{\circ}C$-1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2hr. Fully tetragonal phase could be obtained by proper heat treatment and MgO addition amount. Minor cubic phase was appeared in relatively high MgO content composition at each sintering temperature. As alloying amount of MgO increased, tetragonal stability increased and grain size decreased. Grain size dependence on MgO content was verified by SEM observation of fractured surface. Surface bloating was observed from the 2 m/o to 6m/o in the temperature range of 150$0^{\circ}C$ to 1$600^{\circ}C$. In spite of very porous microstructure owing to surface bloating, 100% TZP could be maintained in 2.0m/o MgO composition by heat treatment of 150$0^{\circ}C$. This result indicated that MgO was more powerful stabilizer than CeO2. Mechanical proprties of MgO-CeO2-ZrO2 ceramics were consistent with the stability observation of tetragonal phase very well.

Classification of 31 Korean Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Cultivars Based on the Chemical Compositions

  • Whole grain wheat flour (WGWF) is the entire grain (bran, endosperm, and germ) milled to make flour. The WGWF of 31 Korean wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars were analyzed for the chemical compositions, and classified into groups by hierarchical cluster analysis (HCL). The average composition values showed a substantial variation among wheat varieties due to different wheat varieties. Wheat cv. Shinmichal1 (waxy wheat) had the highest ash, lipid, and total dietary fiber contents of 1.76, 3.14, and 15.49 g/100 g, respectively. Using HCL efficiently classified wheat cultivars into 7 clusters. Namhae, Sukang, Gobun, and Joeun contained higher protein values (12.88%) and dietary fiber (13.74 %). Regarding multi-trait crop breeding, the variation in chemical compositions found between the clusters might be attributed to wheat genotypes, which was an important factor in accumulating those chemicals in wheat grains. Thus, once wheat cultivars with agronomic characteristics were identified, those properties might be included in the breeding process to develop a new variety of wheat with the trait.

Distillers Dried Grain from Makgeolli By-product Is Useful as a Dietary Ingredient for Growth of Juvenile Sea Cucumber Apostichopus japonicus

  • We tested the effects of various distillers dried grains (DDGs) in a formulated diet on growth and body composition of juvenile sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus. DDG is a solid residue obtained by filtering an aqueous mixture of fermented rice with Aspergillus oryzae and yeasts. Six isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets (DDG0, DDG-G, DDG-C, DDG-K, DDG-W, and DDG-P) were formulated to contain 20% DDG obtained from different Makgeolli factories. Juvenile sea cucumber (average weight, $2.1{\pm}0.02$ g) were randomly distributed in eighteen 50-L rectangular plastic tanks (40 L of water each) in a seawater flow-through system at a density of 50 juveniles/tank. Three replicate groups of sea cucumber were fed each of the six experimental diets at a feeding rate of 5% body weight per day for 22 weeks. At the end of the feeding experiment, survival and weight gain of the juvenile sea cucumber were not affected by the type of dietary DDG (P > 0.05), and the proximate and amino acid compositions of the whole body were not affected by dietary DDG diets (P > 0.05). These results indicate that rice-based DDG is a potential dietary ingredient that could be used at dietary concentrations of up to 20% for growth of juvenile sea cucumber.

Cu-Zn-Mg ferrite의 조성성분 및 소결온도에 따른 자기적 특성변화 연구 (Variation of Magnetic Properties of Cu-Zn-Mg Ferrites with Various Compositions and Sintering Temperatures)

  • Small amounts of additives such as mol % 0.13 NiO and mol % 0.01 $CaCO_3$were added to Cu-Zn-Mg ferrites. Basic composition of the Cu-Zn-Mg ferrites was $Cu_{Cu}$X/$Fe_{0.054}$ /$Zn_{0.486}$$Mg_{0.407}$ $Fe_{1.946}$ $O_4$(group A) and $Cu_{0.263}$$Fe_{0.027}$ $Zn_{0.503}$ $Mg_{0.262}$ $Fe_{1.973}$ $O_4$(group B). Specimens were sintered at different temperatures (1010, 1030, $1050^{\circ}C$) for 2 hours in air followed by an air cooling. Then, effects of various composition and sintering temperatures on the microstructure and the magnetic properties such as inductions, coercive forces, and initial permeabilities of the Cu-Zn-Mg ferrites were investigated. The average grain size increased with the increase of sintering temperature. The magnetic properties obtained from the aforementioned Cu-Zn-Mg ferrite specimens were 1,724 gauss for the maximum induction, 1.0 oersted for the coercive force, and 802 for the initial permeability. These magnetic properties indicated that the specimens could be utilized as the core of IFT (intermediate frequency transformer) and antenna in the amplitude modulation.

한반도 산림골재의 물성특성 (Physuical characteristics of crushed aggregates in Korea)

  • In the last decade, the supply of natural aggregates has been continuously increased due to the other types of aggregates. In general, aggregates constitute 70-80% of the total volume of concrete, so the quality of aggregates is main factor controlling physical characteristics of concrete. For this reason, physical properties of aggregate according to different rock types were studied. The majority of crushed aggregates is taken out of granite, gneiss, sandstone, andesite, basalt and so forth. The physical properties of these rock types were tested and most of them fell within the acceptable limit on the base of Korean standard regulation. The major lithology of the crushed aggregates is granite and gneiss, both of which are marked for more than 50% of total lithology thpes in Korea. A to the physical properties of granite, the high specific gravity coincides with low porosity, low absorption ratio, while the abrasion and soundness index show, in general, no specific trend. It has been assumed that slight differences of the physical properties of granite aggregates are related with those of the mineral composition, grain size, and so on. In comparison to granite, the physical properties of gneiss have little correlation one after another. This trend is related to different mineral composition, grain size and typical sheet fractures typically prevailing in the texture of gneiss. Spatial pattern of physical properties shows that high specific gravity of granite coincides only with low porosity and absorption ratio in all provinces except Cheolla province, and high specific gravity of gneiss coincides with low porosity and absorption ratio only in Cheolla and Gandwon provinces.
