Successful design, construction and maintenance of NATM tunnel demands prediction, control, stability estimation and monitoring of surface settlement, gradient and ground displacement with high accuracy. Back analysis using measured data and forward analysis have been and are indispensable tools to achieve this goal. Sakurai provided the hazard warning levels for assessing the stability of tunnels using the relation of critical strain and apparent Young's modulus. This paper performed the estimation of tunnel stability on construction. Firstly, the apparent Young's modulus concept and back analysis method is introduced for the assessment of tunnel safety during excavation a brief framework. Secondly, this paper deals with case study using "Apparent Young's modulus" and "Back analysis" for the purpose of estimating the stability of NATM tunnel in Korea. Finally, a general method that can be estimated the tunnel stability discussed by a flow chart.

As a railway train enters a tunnel at high speed, a compression wave is formed in front of the train and propagates along the tunnel. The compression wave subsequently emerges from the exit of the tunnel, which causes an impulsive noise. The impulsive noise is closely related to the pressure gradient of the compression wave propagating the tunnel. In order to investigate the characteristics of the compression waves, in the present study an experiment was made using a shock tube. The results show that the strength of a compression wave decreases with the distance from the tunnel entrance and the nonlinear effect of compression wave appears to be significant if strength of the initial compression wave is greater than 7 kPa. Furthermore if the wave pattern is known, attenuation of the compression wave propagating in a tunnel can be reasonably predicted by a theoretical equation considering viscous action and heat transfer in boundary layer.

The need for management of tunnel air quality is imminent considering the rapid increase of number and span of tunnels in Korea. To investigate spatial distribution of $CO_2$ within tunnels, $CO_2$ were measured and model simulations were performed in Namsan 1 tunnel. Results show that $CO_2$ concentrations were 250 ppm to 400 ppm higher in the exit than tunnel entrance. Also, $CO_2$ concentrations were 200 ppm to 300 ppm lower inside no ventilating vehicle than in the tunnel. Both experimental and model simulation results show that spatial distribution and concentration gradient of air pollutant inside tunnel are highly dependent on traffic density.
High-speed railway trains entering and leaving tunnels generate finite amplitude pressure wave which propagate back and forth along the tunnels, reflecting at the open ends of the tunnels and at other discontinuities such as ventilation shafts and the train themselves. In present day railways, the magnitudes of the pressure waves are much too small to cause structual damage, but they are a serious potential source of aural discomport for passengers on unsealed trains. Almost always do the pressure waves propagating along the tunnels lead to a hazardous impulse noise near the exit portal of the tunnel. In order to alleviate such undesirable phenomena, some control strategies have been applied to the compression wave propagating inside the tunnel. The objective of the current work is to investigate the effect of tunnel entrance hoods on the entry compression wave at the vicinity of the tunnel entrance. Three types of entrance hoods were tested by the numerical method using the characteristics of method for a wide range of train speeds. The results show that the maximum pressure gradient of compression wave can be considerably reduced by the tunnel entrance hood. Desirable hood shape for reduction of the pressure transients and impulse noise was found to be of abrupt type hood with its cross-sectional area 2.5times the tunnel area.

When a front head of train enters a tunnel at a high speed, compression wave is generated at tunnel entrance due to the confinement effect and propagated along the tunnel with sound of speed. The propagated compression wave is reflected at tunnel exit due to abrupt pressure change at passage. The reflected wave is expansion pressure wave. And when the rear head of train goes through the tunnel entrance, another expansion pressure wave is generated and propagated along the tunnel. The pressure drop occurs seriously around train when the two expansion pressure waves come cross on train in the tunnel. In order to reduce the pressure drop, the compression wave front must be controlled because the intensity and magnitude of pressure drop is nearly proportional to that of compression wave at tunnel entrance. This study relates to reduction of the pressure wave gradient with respect to tunnel entrance shape change with various kind of angle and rounding. The results show characteristics of wave propagation in tunnel, usefulness of characteristic curve to estimate proper time domain size in numerical study and measuring time in actual experiment. Also rounding is contributed to improve pressure wave front even if its radius is very small at tunnel entrance. In order to improve of pressure wave front at tunnel entrance, proper angle is prefered to rounding with big radius and an angle of around 14$^{\circ}$ is recommended according to this simulations, And it is expected to reduce additional pressure drop in tunnel when the location and the size of the internal space for attendant equipment are considered in advance.
The control and prediction of surface settlement, gradient and ground displacement are the main factors in urban tunnel construction. This paper carried out the estimation and prediction of ground behavior around tunnel due to excavation using computational method and case study in detail for the analysis of deformation behavior in urban NATM tunnel. Computational method was performed by FLAC-2D with strain softening model and elastic plastic model. Field measurements of surface subsidence and ground displacement were adopted to monitor the ground behavior resulting from the tunneling and these values were applied to modify tunnel design parameters on construction.

When a high-speed railway train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates along the tunnel, compressing and accelerating the rest air in front of the wave. At the exit of the tunnel, an impulsive wave is emitted outward toward the surrounding, which causes a positive impulsive noise like a kind of sonic boom produced by a supersonic aircraft. With the advent of high-speed train, such an impulsive noise can be large enough to cause the noise problem, unless some attempts are made to alleviate its pressure levels. For the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study investigated the effect of a vertical bleed duct on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Numerical results were obtained using a Piecewise Linear Method and testified by experiment of shock tube with an open end. The results showed that the vertical bleed duct reduces the maximum pressure gradient of compression wave front by about 30 percent, compared with the straight tunnel without the bleed duct. As the width of the vertical bleed duct becomes larger, reduction of the impulsive noise is expected to be greater. However the impulsive noise is independent of the height of the vertical bleed duct.

In the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study tested the effect of porous walls on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Experimental results were obtained using a shock tube with an open end. The results showed that the cavity/porous wall is very effective for the compression wave with a large nonlinear effect. The porosity of 30% is most effective for attenuation and pressure gradient reduction of the compression wave front. Also the impulsive noise reduction increases with increasing the length and height of the cavity, compared with the tunnel equivalent diameter.
This study aimed to analyze the wind-induced mechanical energy (WME) of a proposed super high-rise and long-span transmission tower-line system (SHLTTS), which, in 2021, is the tallest tower-line system with the longest span. Anew index - the WME, accounting for the wind-induced vibration behavior of the whole system rather than the local part, was first proposed. The occurrence of the maximum WME for a transmission tower, with or without conductors, under synoptic winds, was analyzed, and the corresponding formulae were derived based on stochastic vibration theory. Some calculation data, such as the drag coefficient, dynamic parameters, windshielding areas, mass, calculation point coordinates, mode shape and influence function, derived from wind tunnel testing on reducedscale models and finite element software were used in calculating the maximum WME of the transmission tower under three cases. Then, the influence of conductors, wind speed, gradient wind height and wind yaw angle on WME components and the energy transfer relationship between substructures (transmission tower and conductor) were analyzed. The study showed that the presence of conductors increases the WME of transmission towers and changes the proportion of the mean component (MC), background component (BC) and resonant component (RC) for WME; The RC of WME is more susceptible to the wind speed change. Affected by the gradient wind height, the WME components decrease. With the RC decreasing the fastest and the MC decreasing the slowest; The WME reaches the its maximum value at the wind yaw angle of 30°. Due to the influence of three factors, namely: the long span of the conductors, the gradient wind height and the complex geometrical profile, it is important that the tower-line coupling effect, the potential for fatigue damage and the most unfavorable wind yaw angle should be given particular attention in the wind-resistant design of SHLTTSs

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develope smoke detection using AI model for detecting the initial fire in underground utility tunnels using CCTV Method: To improve detection performance of smoke which is high irregular, a deep learning model for fire detection was trained to optimize smoke detection. Also, several approaches such as dataset cleansing and gradient exploding release were applied to enhance model, and compared with results of those. Result: Results show the proposed approaches can improve the model performance, and the final model has good prediction capability according to several indexes such as mAP. However, the final model has low false negative but high false positive capacities. Conclusion: The present model can apply to smoke detection in underground utility tunnel, fixing the defect by linking between the model and the utility tunnel control system.
