Longitudinal vibration of a nanorod embedded in viscoelastic medium considering nonlocal strain gradient theory

  • This article investigates the longitudinal vibration of a nanorod embedded in viscoelastic medium according to the nonlocal strain gradient theory. Viscoelastic medium is considered based on Kelvin-Voigt model. Governing partial differential equation is derived based on longitudinal equilibrium and analytical solution is obtained by adopting harmonic motion solution for the nanorod. Modal frequencies and corresponding damping ratios are presented to demonstrate the influences of nonlocal parameter, material length scale, elastic and damping parameters of the viscoelastic medium. It is observed that material length scale parameter is very influential on modal frequencies especially at lower values of nonlocal parameter whereas increase in length scale parameter has less effect at higher values of nonlocal parameter when the medium is purely elastic. Elastic stiffness and damping coefficient of the medium have considerable impacts on modal frequencies and damping ratios, and the highest impact of these parameters on frequency and damping ratio is seen in the first mode. Results calculated based on strain gradient theory are quite different from those calculated based on classical elasticity theory. Hence, nonlocal strain gradient theory including length scale parameter can be used to get more accurate estimations of frequency response of nanorods embedded in viscoelastic medium.

Experimental analysis of thermal gradient in concrete box girder bridges and effects of polyurethane insulation in thermal loads reduction

  • Environmental thermal loads such as vertical and lateral temperature gradients are significant factors that must be taken into account when designing the bridge. Different models have been developed and used by countries for simulating thermal gradients in bridge codes. In most of the codes only vertical temperature gradients are considered, such as Iranian Standard Loads for Bridge code (ISLB), which only considers the vertical gradient for bridge design proposes. On the other hand, the vertical gradient profile specified in ISLB, has many lacks due to the diversity of climate in Iran, and only one vertical gradient profile is defined for whole Iran. This paper aims to get the both vertical and lateral gradient loads for the concrete box girder using experimental analysis in the capital of Iran, Tehran. To fulfill this aim, thermocouples are installed in experimental concrete segment and temperatures in different location of the segment are recorded. A three dimensional finite element model of concrete box-girder bridge is constructed to study the effects of thermal loads. Results of investigation proved that the effects of thermal loads are not negligible, and must be considered in design processes. Moreover, a solution for reducing the negative effects of thermal gradients in bridges is proposed. Results of the simulation show that using one layer polyurethane insulation can significantly reduce the thermal gradients and thermal stresses.

소성 구배의 영향을 고려한 다결정 고체 내부의 결정 거동 분석 (Evaluation of Effect of Plastic Gradient on the Behavior of Single Grain inside Polycrystalline Solids)

  • 마이크로 스케일에서 다결정 재료의 소성 거동을 살펴볼 때, 결정의 geometrically necessary dislocation(GND) 효과에 의한 소성 구배(plastic gradient)를 고려하는 것은 재료의 소성 거동에 큰 영향을 줄 수 있다. 이러한 영향을 확인하기 위하여, 본 연구에서는 소성 구배의 영향을 고려한 다결정 고체(polycrystalline solids)의 거동을 유한요소해석을 이용하여 살펴보았다. 소성 구배의 영향을 살펴보기 위해 구배 경화 계수(gradient hardness coefficient)와 먼 거리 변형률에 대한 재료 길이 변수 (material length parameter)가 사용되었다. 재료 길이 변수에 의한 영향을 확인하기 위해, 재료 길이 변수의 차이에 따른 다결정 고체의 거동을 분석하였다. 또한 소성 구배 효과의 고려 및 재료 길이 변수에 따른 다결정 고체 내부에 위치한 단결정이 받는 영향을 살펴보았다. 재료 길이 변수에 따라 결정이 받는 영향을 비교하여, GND에 의한 다결정 고체 거동의 영향을 확인하였다.

Thermal field of large-diameter concrete filled steel tubular members under solar radiation

  • Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) members have been widely used in engineering, and their tube diameters have become larger and larger. But there is no research on the thermal field of large-diameter CFST structure. These studies focused on the thermal field of the large-diameter CFST structure under solar radiation. The environmental factors and the actual placement position were considered, and the finite element model (FEM) of the thermal field of CFST members under solar radiation (SR) was established. Then the FEM was verified by practical experiments. The most unfavorable temperature gradient model in the cross-section was proposed. The testing results showed that the temperature field of the large-diameter CFST member section was non-linearly distributed due to the influence of SR. The temperature field results of CFST members with different pipe diameters indicated that the larger the core concrete diameter was, the slower the central temperature changed, and there was a significant temperature difference between the center and the boundary. Based on the numerical model, the most unfavorable temperature gradient model in the section was proposed. The model showed that the temperature difference around the center of the circle is small, and the boundary temperature difference is significant. The maximum temperature difference is 15.22℃, which appeared in the southern boundary area of the specimen. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the influence of SR on the thermal field of the member for large-diameter CFST members in actual engineering, which causes a large temperature gradient in the member.

경사도 에너지 소모량을 고려한 자전거 경로 선택 모형 개발 (Development of Bicyclists' Route Choice Model Considering Slope Gradient)

  • 중앙정부 및 지방자치단체는 자전거 이용 활성화를 위해 자전거 도로 및 공공 자전거 대여소의 인프라를 지속적으로 확충하고 있다. 이와 같은 인프라 공급과 더불어 이용 편의성 제고정책을 병행한다면, 자전거 이용은 더욱 활성화될 수 있다. 본 연구는 자전거 이용 편의 측면에서 자전거 경사를 고려한 경로 안내 알고리즘을 제안하고 있다. 구체적으로는 경사도와 심장 박동수 측정을 통해, 경사도를 고려한 자전거 주행자의 에너지 소모량 추정 모형을 구축하였고, 경사도에 기인한 에너지 소모량을 최소화할 수 있는 자전거 경로 선택 모형을 제안하고 있다. 연구결과, 평지 구간에서는 주행거리와 속도가 증가할수록 에너지 소모량은 증가하며, 내리막 구간에서는 경사도가 크고 속도가 높을수록 더 적은 에너지가 소요되는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 모형을 모의실험 구간에 적용하여 에너지 소모량을 추정한 결과, 본 연구모형의 RMSE는 경사도가 미 반영된 모형보다 41% 우수하였다. 본 연구결과는 자전거 주행로의 종단과 횡단을 함께 고려한 자전거 인프라 계획과 자전거 경로 안내 시스템의 알고리즘에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Mathematical description of drug distribution in the isolated organ

  • The model of an isolated organ system has been constructed to simulated the behavior of drug in the circulatory system of an acting organ or site. The model is developed on the following assumptions : The drug in the microcirculatory system cannot permeate the capilary walls. The capilary bed is modeled as a simple ideal plug flow system with and without radial concentration gradient. The mathematical model is developed from basic considerations of drug distribution with hemodynamical and pharmacokinetical meanings. It is considered that a nonmetabolic drug substance is injected into the arterial inflow site of an isolated organ at a constant rate. The concentration of the drug in the outflow site is mathematically expressed as a function of time.

전기점화기관의 연소실 온도구배를 고려한 배출물 농도예측 (The Prediction of Emission Concentrations in SI Engine Considering Temperature Gradient in Combustion Chamber)

  • The prediction of emission concentrations in a 4cycle spark ignition engine was made by considering nonuniform model with thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium and kinetic mechanism of nitric oxide. Calculation of this model shows that a temperature difference of the order of 500K can be established across he cylinder. Results of the kinetic calculation of nitric oxide show that the temperature gradient across the cylinder has a profound effect on the nitric oxide formation. The predicted values for nitric oxide, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide agree with measured ones for a variety of equivalence ratio.

Analysis of haline channel formed in the East China Sea and the Atlantic Ocean using the T-S gradient diagram

  • In case of any coastal ocean near the mouth of huge rivers, low salinity water can be formed due to its large amount of freshwater discharge. For the acoustic analysis on the low salinity environment, some oceanographic data of the East China Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were collected through KODC (Korea Oceanographic Data Center) and NODC (National Oceanographic Data Center) online service. In this paper, the T-S gradient diagram is introduced to show a relation between the gradients of temperature and salinity in view of acoustic surface channel formation. Existence of haline channel, quantitative contribution of gradients of salinity and temperature, effectiveness of the channel formation can be known by the T-S gradient diagram. After applying the collected data into the diagram, tropical regions of the Atlantic Ocean show strong haline channel due to its nearly invariant temperature and drastic change of salinity with depth. The averaged transmission loss in the channel is about 5.7 ~ 7.5 dB less than that out of the channel by the results of acoustic propagation model (RAM: Range independent Acoustic Model). On the other hand, the East China Sea and temperate region of the Atlantic ocean have weaker haline channel with less difference of the averaged transmission loss between in and out of the channel as 3.2 ~ 6.0 dB. Although data samples used in this study have limitation to represent the general physical structures of the three ocean regions, the T-S gradient diagram is shown to be useful and acoustic field affected by low salinity environment is investigated in this study.

응력 구배 효과를 고려한 구름 접촉 모델의 피로수명해석 (Fatigue Life Analysis of Rolling Contact Model Considering Stress Gradient Effect)

  • Recently, Luu suggested fatigue life equation that uses every term of the Crossland equation with stress gradient effect. Luu’s model, however, has a limit of being unable to coverage small radii that are less than a specified length. Furthermore, rolling model has a very small contact area compared to the rolling element size, and fatigue failure occurs on the small radius such as surface asperity by cyclic loading. Therefore, it is necessary to modify fatigue life equation in order to enable fatigue analysis for a small radius. In this paper, the fatigue life considering a stress gradient effect in rolling contact was obtained using Luu’s modified equation. Fatigue analysis was performed to study the effect of stress gradient on the fatigue life using newly adopted equation and to compare the results with pervious models. In order to do this, a series of simulation such as surface stress analysis, subsurface stress analysis, and fatigue analysis are conducted for two rolling balls of same size that contact each other. Through such a series of processes, the fatigue life can be calculated and equation that is proposed in this paper evaluates the fatigue life in case the contact area is small.

머신러닝을 이용한 권한 기반 안드로이드 악성코드 탐지 (Android Malware Detection Using Permission-Based Machine Learning Approach)

  • 본 연구는 안드로이드 정적분석을 기반으로 추출된 AndroidManifest 권한 특징을 통해 악성코드를 탐지하고자 한다. 특징들은 AndroidManifest의 권한을 기반으로 분석에 대한 자원과 시간을 줄였다. 악성코드 탐지 모델은 1500개의 정상어플리케이션과 500개의 악성코드들을 학습한 SVM(support vector machine), NB(Naive Bayes), GBC(Gradient Boosting Classifier), Logistic Regression 모델로 구성하여 98%의 탐지율을 기록했다. 또한, 악성앱 패밀리 식별은 알고리즘 SVM과 GPC (Gaussian Process Classifier), GBC를 이용하여 multi-classifiers모델을 구현하였다. 학습된 패밀리 식별 머신러닝 모델은 악성코드패밀리를 92% 분류했다.
