The company Daewoo Precision Industries imported fine blanking press of 40 tons from Switzerland with fine blanking tool in order to produce the fuse part of bomb in 1978 at first in Korea. About 1985 the first fine blanking tool for producing the door lock parts was manufactured in the company Gold Star (now LG). And then this technology was grown up with the growth of automobile industries in Korea. Now 31 companies are closely related to the fine blanking technology and there are total 146 fine blanking presses in Korea. The developments of fine blanking technology in industries have been oriented to the production of precise fine blanking parts, the reduction of die roll height on fine blanking parts, the production of complex fine blanking parts with progressive fine blanking tool including forming and forging technology, the production of high-strength steel fine blanking parts and so on. Some R&D activities in KITECH were introduced.
Recently, multifunctional nanomaterials have been developed as nanotherapeutic agents for cellular imaging and targeted cancer treatment because of their ease of synthesis and low cytotoxicity. In this study, we developed a multifunctional, two-component nanorod consisting of gold (Au) and nickel (Ni) blocks that enables dual-fluorescence imaging and the targeted delivery of small interfering RNA (siRNA) to improve cancer treatment. Fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) peptides were attached to the surface of a Ni block via a histidine-tagged LHRH interaction to specifically bind to a breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. The Au block was modified with TAMRA-labeled thiolated siRNA in order to knock down the vascular endothelial growth factor protein to inhibit cancer growth. These two-component nanorods actively targeted and internalized into MCF-7 cells to induce apoptosis through RNA interference. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using two-component nanorods as a potential theranostic in breast cancer treatment, with capabilities in dual imaging and targeted gene delivery.

For years, the gold standard in facial rejuvenation has been the face lift. However, exploring new, less complex procedures for achieving the same goal is currently drawing interest. Rejuvenation of the perioral area is a difficult task for plastic surgeons because of the minimal effect that face lift procedures have over this region and the lack of published material on the subject. In this article, the descended mouth corner anguloplasty technique is presented. It is a 20-minutes lift technique that can correct this typical feature of the ageing mouth. The authors have treated 71 patients using the technique with consistently good results, with just one requiring revision. They conclude that this procedure by itself and in combination with other small operations or even a full face lift can rejuvenate the ageing face.
A density functional theory method with the local basis set was employed to perform slab calculations to study thiolate-induced surface reconstruction structures of butylthiolates (ButS) with c($4{\times}2$) superlattice of the Au(111) surface. The slab calculations indicate that the most stable adsorption structure is the ButS-Au (adatom)-SBut complex form, which is in good agreement with the reported experiments and theoretical results for thiolates with shorter alkyl chains. The cis form of ButS-Au (adatom)-SBut motifs is preferred by 0.11 eV with respect to the trans form, and by 0.15 eV over the mixed cis-trans configurations due to the steric hindrance between adjacent butyl groups. It appears that the motif of Au adatom on the Au(111) surface is favored even for butylthiolate.
Even if transmissions through normal channel between ubiquitous devices and terminal readers are encrypted, any extra sources of information retrieved from encrypting module can be exploited to figure out the key parameters, so called side channel attack. Since side channel attacks are based on statistical methods, making side channel signal weak or complex is the proper solution to prevent the attack. Among many countermeasures, shielding the electromagnetic signal and adding noise to the EM signal were examined by applying different thicknesses of thin films of ferroelectric (BTO) and conductors (copper and gold). As a test vehicle, chip antenna was utilized to see the change in radiation characteristics: return loss and gain. As a result, the ferroelectric BTO showed no recognizable effect on both shielding and adding noise. Cu thin film showed increasing shielding effect with thickness. Nanometer Au exhibited possibility in adding noise by widening of bandwidth and red shifting of resonating frequencies.
To investigate the effect of mercuric chloride on the pectoral muscel cells during chick embryogensis, chicken embryos were treated with mercuric chloride. Monoclonal antibodies against myosin were prepared for the localization of differentiation of thick filaments detected by the use of protein A-gold complex as a cytochemical marker. The effect of mercuric chloride was appeared not only to be ascribed with the reduced formation of myofibrilogenesis but also associated with induced change of morphology by the inhibition of protein synthesis.
This paper presents some simple thinking on an age-old question that given a bridge of a certain span and loading, from the point of view of the structural efficiency, where should the bridge deck be positioned? Generally, this decision is made for other reasons than structural efficiency such as aesthetics and the analyst is often presented with a fait accompli. Using the recently invented Evolutional Structural Optimisation (ESO) method, it is possible to demonstrate that having the deck at different vertical locations can lead to a very different mass and shape for each structural form resembling cable-stayed and cable-truss bridges. By monitoring a performance index which is the function of stresses and volume of discretised finite elements, the best optimised structure can be easily determined and the bridge deck positioning problem can be efficiently solved without resorting to any complex analysis procedures.
Panoramic radiographs and computed tomography (CT) play a paramount role in the accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognostic evaluation of various complex dental pathologies. The advent of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has revolutionized the practice of dentistry, and this technique is now considered the gold standard for imaging the oral and maxillofacial area due to its numerous advantages, including reductions in exposure time, radiation dose, and cost in comparison to other imaging modalities. This review highlights the broad use of CBCT in the dentomaxillofacial region, and also focuses on future software advancements that can further optimize CBCT imaging.
The number of laparosocpic liver resection performed every years has been increasing. There is a trend than more major hepatectomy and complex liver resection is being reported. However there has been a major obstacles in many centers because open liver resection is still considered as a gold standard and many surgeons are still getting used to the old method of liver resection. To start a new procedure, education and training is essential in order to achieve a good outcome without compromising the safety of the patients. A gradual progression is crucial in order to avoid dreadful complication. The development of the consensus meeting and difficulty score has facility the understanding of safe practice in the development of laparoscopic liver resection. In a long run, development of registry system will improve transparency and safety of this operation.
Contrasts in the style of the gold-silver mineralization in geologic and tectonic settings in Korea, together with radiometric age data, reflect the genetically different nature of hydrothermal activities, coinciding with the emplacement age and depth of Mesozoic magmatic activities. It represents a clear distinction between the plutonic settings of the Jurassic Daebo orogeny and the subvolcanic environments of the Cretaceous Bulgugsa igneous activities. During the Daebo igneous activities (about 200-130 Ma) coincident with orogenic time, gold mineralization took place between 197 and 127 Ma. The Jurassic deposits commonly show several characteristics: prominent association with pegmatites, low Ag/Au ratios in the ore-concentrating parts, massive vein morphology and a distinctively simple mineralogy including Fe-rich sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, Au-rich eIectrum. pyrrhotite and/or pyrite. During the Bulgugsa igneous activities (120-60 Ma), the precious-metal deposits are generally characterized by such features as complex vein morphology, medium to high AgiAu ratios in the ore concentrates, and abundance of ore minerals including base-metal sulfides, Ag sulfides, native silver, Ag sulfosalts and Ag tellurides. Vein morphology, mineralogical, fluid inclusion and stable isotope results indicate the diverse genetic natures of hydrothermal systems. The Jurassic Au-dominant deposits were formed at the relatively high temperature (about 300 to 450$^{\circ}$C) and deep-crustal level (>3.0 kb) from the hydrothermal fluids containing more amounts of magmatic waters (3180; 5-10 %0). It can be explained by the dominant ore-depositing mechanisms as CO2 boiling and sulfidation, suggestive of hypo/mesothermal environments. In contrast, mineralization of the Cretaceous Au-Ag type (108-71 Ma) and Agdominant type (98-71 Ma) occurred at relatively low temperature (about 200 to 350$^{\circ}$C) and shallow-crustal level «1.0 kb) from the ore-fonning fluids containing more amounts of less-evolved meteoric waters (15180; -10-5%0). These characteristics of the Cretaceous precious-metal deposits can be attributed to the complexities in the ore-precipitating mechanisms (mixing, boiling, cooling), suggestive of epilmesothermal environments. Therefore, the differences of the emplacement depth between the Daebo and the Bulgugsa igneous activities directly influence the unique temporal and spatial association of the deposit type.
