직장인에서 비만과 혈액지표와의 상관성에 관한 연구 (A Study for the Correlations between Obesity and Blood Parameters at the Worksite)

  • Obesity, a state of having excessive body fat enough to attack one's health, is most blamed for causing chronical degenerative illness such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus as well as arteriosclerosis. According to many studies, the program for the weight control was the most demanded at the worksites. This study was designed to investigate the correlation between the degree of obesity and blood parameters of the employees at the worksites. The results of periodic medical examination for 571 employees(male: 418, female: 153) were analyzed; Age, BMI, systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood pressure(DBP), hemoglobin(Hb), fasting blood sugar(FBS), total-cholesterol(TC), serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (sGOT), serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase(sGPT) and $gamma$-glutamyl transpeptidase($gamma$-GTP). Pearson correlation coefficient was used to find out the correlation between BMI and each blood parameters. In the case of male, 27.3% of the subjects were over-weight. The subject's age and their blood levels of uric acid, FBS, sGOT and sGPT did not show any significant difference regardless of BMI's, while SBP, DBP, Hb, TC and $gamma$-GTP levels of the overweight group were significantly higher than those of normal group. In the case of female, 9.2% of the subjects were over-weight. This study shows that the implementation of weight control program is required at the worksites

  • Alcohol consumption causes numerous consequences on the health of the human body. Heavy drinking on a daily base has caused liver diseases. Furthermore, some products such as acetaldehyde produced from alcohol metabolism are more toxic than alcohol itself. This study was carried out to evaluate the role of Lactobacillus casei on alcohol metabolism, especially, the removal of the toxic effect of alcohol. The maximum alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activities from L. casei were observed at 4 hr of culture. L. casei was confirmed to produce the ADH and ALDH by the SDS-PAGE. From in vivo test using SD rats with 22% alcoholic drink, blood alcohol concentration (BAC), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) of the rats feeding the medium containing L. casei were lower than those of the rats feeding the medium containing an alcoholic drink only This demonstrates that the ADH and ALDH produced by L. casei have virtual functions to detoxicate the alcohol in vivo and the fermentation broth of L. casei can be used as an alcohol detoxification drink.

Reversible Hepatic Toxic Effect of Crocin Dyes in Rats

  • Gardenia jasminodes has been medically used for anti-inflammation, sedation and anti-diarrhea; The extract of this plant has been traditionally used as food colorant and referred as crocin dyes. In the present study, the possible hepatic toxicity of this dye has been evaluated on the basis of its alteration on the marker enzymes, namely, glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase and gamma-glutamyltransferase. Crocin dyes did not affect hepatic function when they were orally administered to rats in a daily dose of 50 mg/kg for 8 days, but could induce acute hepatic discoloration. A high dose of 100 mg/kg for 2 weeks could induce both hepatic damage and black pigmentation, but a lower dose of 10 mg/kg for 40 days did not The induced black pigmentation and the acute hepatic damage were completely reversible. In conclusion, the crocin dyes have a very low hepatic toxicity in rats, even in high experimental dosages which could hardly happen in human practice. It is therefore suggested that the crocin dyes are safe for coloring foods.

MCT와 LCT가 혈청(血淸)의 효소활성(酵素活性)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effect of Medium and Long Chain Triglyceride Diets on the Serum Enzyme Activity in the Rats)

  • To investigate the effect of feeding rats medium-chain triglyceride(MCT), triglyceride containing primarily $C_8$ and $C_10$ fatty acids, it were compared to the effects of feeding triglycerides composed of long-chain triglyceride (LCT), corn oil and lard, on the serum enzyme activity. For 4 weeks rats fed a diet containing 20% MCT or LCT ${\cdot}$ MCT, as compared with LCT, had the following effects: 1) The total lactic dehydrogenase(LDH) activities in the serum of all experimental group were significantly decreased then those of control group. 2) The activities of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) in the serum of all experimental group were decreased than those of control group. 3) The activities of glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in the serum of all experimental group were decreased, MCT and LCT group were singinficantly decreased than of control group. 4) The activities of ${\alpha}-amylase$ in the serum of all groups were significantly increased than those of control group. 5) According to electrophoresis, LDH of LDH isoezyme activities in MCT and Lard group were increased with those of $LDH_5$ in corn oil group were increased than those of control gourp. It is suggested that the MCT and LCT fed to rats influence on the activity of various serum enzymes.

한약으로 치료 받은 건선 환자 107명의 안전성 및 유효성에 대한 고찰 (The Safety and Efficacy of Herbal Medicine for 107 Psoriasis Patients: A Retrospective Chart Review)

  • Objectives: To observe safety and efficacy of herbal medicine for psoriasis patients. Methods: We did retrospective chart review for 107 psoriasis patients who had been treated by herbal medicine for 2 months, and we analyzed the liver function test (LFT) results and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores of before and after the treatment. Results: The mean LFT and the number of patients with abnormal LFT decreased after the treatments. More than 95% of patients with normal LFT maintained normal results at after the treatment, and only 2.1% and 4.6% patients with normal LFT showed abnormal Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (GOT) and Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (GPT) results at after the treatment. Also, both mean PASI scores for all patients and patients with abnormal LFT before the treatment decreased significantly. Conclusions: This study suggest that herbal medicine may be safe and effective treatment for psoriasis.

맥문동 열수추출물의 사염화탄소로 유발된 흰쥐의 간 손상에 대한 보호효과 (Hepatoprotective Effects of Water Extract of Liriopis Tuber on Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats)

  • The hepatoprotective effects of Liriopis tuber on carbon tetrachloride $(CCl_4)$ intoxicated rats were studied. The water extract prepared from Liriopis tuber were administrated to the pretreatment group orally once a day for successive 7 days, followed by treatment with $CCl_4$ on the seventh day. The post treatment group was treated with $CCl_4$ and then the water extract was administrated. The activities of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and contents of total cholesterol and triglyceride in pretreatment rats serum were significantly decreased compared to the only $CCl_4$ treated rats. The level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol was considerably increased compared to the only $CCl_4$ treated rats. In the pretreatment group with the water extract of Liriopis tuber tissue destruction was not observed in light microscopic investigation, compared to the only $CCl_4$ treated rats. These results suggest that Liriopis tuber have potent hepatoprotective effect against carbon tetrachloride intoxicated rats.

  • Holstein cows being raised in the Kangweon district were examined on the values of blood chemistry in infertile cows. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Total serum protein was 7.52$\pm$0.45g/100ml 2. Serum albumin was 3.06$\pm$0.28g/100ml 3. In values of serum globulin, $\alpha$1-globulin, $\alpha$2- globulin, $\beta$-globulin and ${\gamma}$-globulin were 0.79$\pm$0.14, 0.60$\pm$0.10, 0.86$\pm$0.13 and 2.21$\pm$0.35ng/100ml, respectively. 4. A/G ration was 0.69$\pm$0.09 5. Total cholesterol in serum was 119.73$\pm$34.52mg/100ml 6. Blood glucose was 55.24$\pm$6.46mg/100ml 7. Serum calcium was 9.27$\pm$0.87mg/100ml 8. Serum inorganic phosphorus was 5.74$\pm$0.86mg/100ml 9. Serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase was 47.90$\pm$11.02I$\mu$/l 10. Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase was 14.20$\pm$3.02I$\mu$/l

취장 및 간장에 미치는 식이성(食餌性) Ethionine 과 Methionine 의 독성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Toxicity of Dietary Ethionine and Methionine to Pancreas and Liver)

  • It has been demonstrated repeatedly that the administration of ethionine, a methionine analogue, will produce destruction of pancreatic tissue and liver cells. Destruction of acinar cells of pancreas by the administration of excess methionine similar to that seen after feeding diets supplemented with ethionine was also reported, but the liver was not involved by this amino acid. In an attempt to reproduce the results of these investigators the tissue damages were found to be slight and seen only irregulary in rats receiving ethionine on a complete diet and the result of tissue damages by excess methionine were also controversial. The present studies describe the toxicity of dietary supplemented ethionine and methionine to liver and pancreas in rats fed a low protein diet. Hundred five albino rats weighing around 120 gm were divided into three groups as follows; 1) Control group: A low protein diet containing 8% casein was fed throughout the experimental period. 2) Methionine group: A low protein diet (7% casein) supplemented with 1% methionine was used. 3) Ethionine group: A similar diet as methionine group except the supplementation of 1% ethionine instead of methionine was used. Five animals per wee from each group were killed for 6 weeks. The liver and pancreas were fixed in 10% formalin and histologic sections were prepared and stained with hematoxylin eosin. Serum amylase was expressed as much of glucose liberated from a starch substrate. The glucose was determined by the method of Nelson (1944). Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) were determined by the technique described in Sigma Bulletin.

한국산 녹차, 우롱차 및 홍차가 카드뮴에 중독된 흰쥐 간조직의 항산화적 해독작용에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Korean Green Tea, Oolong Tea and Black Tea Beverage on the Antioxidative Detoxification in Rat Poisoned with Cadmium)

  • In order to investigate the effect of Korean green tea, oolong tea and black tea beverage on the antioxidative detoxification in cadmium(Cd) poisoned rat liver, male Sprague-Dawley rat weighing 143$\pm$3.2g were divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental groups were fed standard diet containing 40ppm Cd and were given distilled water(CD), 5% black tea(BT), oolong tea(OT) and green tea(GT), respectively. Tea beverages were extracted from 5G dry leaves of teas in 100ml hot distilled water by the treatment at 85$^{\circ}C$ for 3 min. Liver xanthine oxidase(XOD) activity was increased by the administration of Cd except GT group. Liver superoxide dismutase(SOD), glutathione peroxidase(GSH-px), glutathione S-transferase(GST) activities were decreased by te administration of Cd but did not decreased by the administration of green tea(in GT group). Vitamin E and reduced glutathione contents were significantly decreased in Cd administered groups. Liver lipid peroxide value in Cd administered groups were increased compared to control group, but was not increased in GT group. Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT) activities in CD, OT, BT groups were higher than control, but that in GT group was similar to control group. Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) activity was not significantly different among various groups. It was concluded that green tea might alleviate peroxidative damage in Cd-administered rat liver by reinforcing antioxidative detoxification system.

영양교육과 운동프로그램이 중년복부비만여성의 체중조절에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Nutrition Education and Aerobic Exercise Program on Weight Control Program of Middle Aged Abdominal Obese Women)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of nutrition education and aerobic exercise program on weight control program of middle aged abdominal obese women. Data for the study were collected from February 14 to April 22, 2005. The study objects were 10 pre-obese women and 10 obese women. The results were as follows; Body weight, body mass index, waist-hip ratio and waist circumference of pre-obese group and obese group were significantly decreased. Nutrition education and aerobic exercise program on body weight and waist circumference were more effective in obese group than in pre-obese group. Total Cholestreol and Creatinine of pre-obese group and Total Cholestreol, Creatinine, U/A and Glucose of obese group were significantly decreased. TG(Triglyceride), BUN(Blood Urea Nitrogen), U/A(Uric Acid), Glucose, SGOT(Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) and SGPT(Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase) of prer-obese group and TG, BUN, SGOT and SGPT of obese group were no differences. Obesity management program on Total Cholestreol were more effective in obese group than in pre-obese group. Therefore, it is concluded that the nutrition education and aerobic exercise program on weight control program of middle aged abdominal obese women were more effective in obese group than in pre-obese group.
