  • Several remedial works were attempted to stabilize the collapsed area of the inlet slopes of diversion tunnel, but prevention of any further movement was being only carried out at beginning stage by filling the area with aggregates and rock debris, after several cracks had been initiated and developed around the area. The extra specialty developed folding zone is consisted with highly weathered Greywacke and Black shale. The suggested solution is to improve the properties of the rock mass of failed area by choosing the optimum level of reinforcement through the increment of slope rock support design so as to control the movement of slopes during the re-excavation. The Bakun hydroelectric project includes the construction of a hydroelectric power plant with an installed capacity of 2,520MW and a power transmission system connecting to the existing transmission networks in Sarawak and Western Malaysia. The power station will consist of a 210m height Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam. During the construction of the dam and the power facilities the Balui River has to be diverted of the tunnels is 12m and the tunnel width is 16m at the portal area. This paper describes the stability analysis and design methods for the open cut rock slopes in the inlet area of the diversion tunnels. The geotechnical parameters employed in stability calculations were given as a function of four defined Rock Mass Type (RMT) which were based on RMR system from Bieniawski. The stability calculations procedure of the rock slopes are divided into two stages. In the first stage, it is calculated for the stability of each "global" slope without any rock support and shotcrete system. In the second stage, it is calculated for each "local" slope stability with berms and supported with rock bolts and shotcrete. The monitoring instrumentation was performed continuously and some of the design modification was carried out in order to increase the safety of failed area based on the unforeseen geological risks during the open cut excavation.

  • 21st century is a knowledge and information society. Keeping pace with this global environment change. people demand various roles from a library First, they demand to play a role of an 'Information Connector' rather than a traditional role of a 'Book Container'. Second, they demand to be the place of the social integration for a solution to the information and learning gap and the place for a life-long learning for HRD(Human Resources Development) by the community unit. In addition, not only introducing a system of 'Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education & HRD' for national HRD and 'Five-Day Week' but the advent of 'an Aging Society' demand a change of a library. This study researches roles of a library inseparably related to such new paradigms in the life-long learning society as the knowledge. information, five-day week. aging and HRD, and shows the right direction of a library to pursue in the future.

  • A stress ribbon pedestrian bridge is the structure in which the axial force of prestressed deck, which is developed by introducing prestressed force into the thin deck with the very low value of span to deck-depth ratio which is installed on bearing cables with the specified sag, resists most of external loadings. Since the design of stress ribbon pedestrian bridges should be conducted by assuming the cross-section of deck, the area of bearing cables and post-tensioning cables, and the prestressed force of post-tensioning cables, it requires much more iterative processes than the design of general bridges. In this research, to minimize such iteration processes, regression equations which can reasonably assume the area of bearing cables and post-tensioning cables, and the prestressed force of post-tensioning cables, are suggested for the bridge length of 80m with the sag-span ratios of 1/30, 1/40, and 1/50.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to suggest how to plan ROK(Republic of Korea) Navy's strategy concerning to JOAC(Joint Operation Access Concept) and ASB(Air-Sea Battle) concept of US(United States) armed forces. Since 2006, US armed forces has been developing CONOPS(Concepts of Operations), JOAC & ASB. These concepts will not only affect security environment for Korea Peninsula and West Pacific Area, but also will be affected to ROK Navy's Strategy. Therefore, Korea Navy has to consider and review those concepts and should discuss the way to secure peace of Korea Peninsula. JOAC & ASB have been developed for securing operational access ability of US armed forces against enemy forces. A2/AD(Anti-Access, Area-Denial) is the strategy of possible enemy forces against US forces' approaching into the operation area and impede operations within area. US forces had to overcome enemy's A2/AD strategy in coming century to protect national interest and sustain global leadership. The main concept of JOAC & ASB is "Cross-domain Synergy", which means 'to eliminate duplicate and improve joint operability containing space and cyber operation area.' Korea Navy's acceptance of JOAC & ASB without any revising is not a rational choice. Without the amendment some problems can be occurred by the Korea navy's acceptance for the original version of JOAC & ASB. Those are "Missing differences of operation environment between Korea and US", "Impediment from neighbor nations, especially PRC (People's Republic of China)", and "Impediment inside from Korea armed forces". Therefore, Korea Navy has to evaluate and find out the way to solve for JOAC & ASB to apply for their strategy and minimise those possible problems above. This thesis is expected to be the solution.

  • In the analysis of the 3 dimensional plate structures by the finite element method, the triangular elements are generally used for the global stiffness matrix of the analyzed system. But the triangular elements of the plates have some problems in the process of formulation and in the precision of analysis. The formulation of the finite element method to analyze 3 dimensional plate structures using quadrilateral elements is presented in this paper. The degree of freedom off nodal point is 6, that is, the displacements in the direction off-y-z is and the rotations about x-y-z axis and then the degree of freedom off element is 24. For the comparison of the analysis using triangular elements and quadrilateral elements, the rectangular plates subjected to the uniform load and a concentrated load on the centroid of the plate, for which the theoretical solutions have been obtained, are analyzed. The calculated deflections of the rectangular plates using the finite element method by the triangular elements and the quadrilateral elements are also compared with the deflections of the plates calculated by theoretical solutions. The defections of the rectangular plates calculated by the finite element method using the quadrilateral elements are closer to the theoretical solutions than the defections calculated by the finite element method using the triangular elements. The deflection of the centroid of plate, calculated by the finite element method, converges to that of theoretical solution as the number of elements is increased. This convergence is much more rapid for the case of using the quakrilateral elements than fir the case of using triangular elements.

  • Galileo is the Europe's global navigation satellite system corresponding to the GPS. The GIOVE-A test experiment has been finished and the second test satellite GIOVE-B will be launched soon. The integration of GPS and Galileo lead an increase of visible satellite number. We can obtain an improved navigation performance in signal blocked area such as urban or forest. GPS and Galileo have each time-coordinate system and use the different error model to calculate the navigation solution. In this paper, we studied on GPS and Galileo channel error model and time-coordinate system. Using this result, we implement the integrated navigation algorithm. In simulation, we analyzed the navigation error caused by time and coordinate disagreement and verified performance of integrated navigation algorithm in terms of visible satellite number, DOP(Dilution of Pression) and position error.

  • In this paper, the orbital forming analysis of an automotive hub bearing was studied to predict forming performances using the explicit finite element method. To find an efficient solution technique for the orbital forming, axisymmetric finite element models and 3D solid element models were solved and numerically compared. The time scaling and mass scaling techniques were introduced to reduce the excessive computational time caused by small element size in case of the explicit finite element method. It was found from the numerical simulations on the orbital forming that the axisymmetric element models showed the similar results to the 3D solid element models in forming loads whereas the deformations at the inner race of bearing were quite different. Finally the strains at the inner race of bearing and the forming forces to the peen were measured for the same product of the numerical model by test, and were compared with the 3D solid element results. It was founded that the test results were in good agreements with the numerical ones.

  • After USA removed the Selective Availability (SA), Global Positioning System (GPS) has monopolized the world market and other countries have been depended on GPS, absolutely. So the other countries, Russia, European Community (EC) and Japan, which apprehend to monopolize in technical and strategic parts, are developing the next generation GNSS including GLONASS Galileo and JRANS. And the countries are planning to provide the another GNSS. This research has focused on the next generation GNSS system based on GPS and Galileo system with developing a GNSS simulation software, named as GlMS2005, which generates and analyzes satellite constellation and measurements. Based on the software, a variety of simulation tests have been carried out to recognize limits of GPS-only system and potential benefits of integrated GPS/Galileo positioning in terms of satellite geometry strength and solution accuracy.

  • Objectives Despite the great contribution made by chemical substances to the development of modern civilization, their indiscriminate use has caused various kinds of damage to the global environment and human beings. Accordingly, the major developed countries and international society have tried to ensure the safe use of chemicals and a reduction in the use of hazardous chemicals through the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme and various international agreements. In this reason, we tried to introduce about Green Chemistry progress at the present in worldwide and Korea. Methods We checked and analyzed relative journals, reports using keyword as like Green Chemistry, alternative chemicals, eco-friendly etc. and major country's government homepage search. Results Green Chemistry theory, which argues for the reduction or removal of harmfulness in chemicals throughout their entire life-cycle, has been spreading, and major developed countries, such as the US and Denmark, have developed and operate programs to provide reliable chemical information to help replace hazardous chemicals. Korea has also been conducting studies as like eco-innovation project. Through this project the "Alternative Chemical Search program," has been developed, distributed, and operated since 2011 to provide reliable information to small and medium-sized businesses that have difficulties collecting information to ensure conformity to international regulations. The program provides information that includes the regulations of major countries and Korea, information on 340 alternative chemicals, 70 application cases, and 1:1 consulting. Conclusions The Alternative Chemical Search program is expected to contribute to the establishment of response systems for regulation of Korean small and medium-sized businesses, and it also will be used to provide basic data for Korean hazardous chemical regulation, together with the Act on the Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances and the Chemical Control act, making it possible to establish an infrastructure for Green Chemistry in Korea and to increase national competitiveness.

  • The increasing lack of good quality soils allowing the development of roadway, motorway, or railway networks, as well as large scale industrial facilities, necessitates the use of reinforcement techniques. Their aim is the improvement of the global performance of compressible soils, both in terms of settlement reduction and increase of the load bearing capacity. Among the various available techniques, the improvement of soils by incorporating vertical stiff piles appears to be a particularly appropriate solution, since it is easy to implement and does not require any substitution of significant soft soil volumes. The technique consists in driving a group of regularly spaced piles through a soft soil layer down to an underlying competent substratum. The surface load being thus transferred to this substratum by means of those reinforcing piles, which illustrates the case of a piled embankment. The differential settlements at the base of the embankment between the soft soil and the stiff piles lead to an "arching effect" in the embankment due to shearing mechanisms. This effect, which can be accentuated by the use of large pile caps, allows partial load transfer onto the pile, as well as surface settlement reduction, thus ensuring that the surface structure works properly. A technique for producing rigid piles has been developed to achieve in a single operation a rigid circular pile associated with a cone shaped head reversed on the place of a rigid circular pile. This technique has been used with success in a pile-supported road near Bourgoin-Jallieu (France). In this article, a numerical study based on this real case is proposed to highlight the functioning mode of this new technique in the case of industrial slabs.
