  • Radiation data are the best source of information for estimating average incident radiation. Lacking this or data from nearby locations of similar climate, it is possible to use empirical relationships to estimate radiation from days of cloudiness. It is necessary to estimate the regression coefficients in order to predict the daily global radiation on a horizontal surface. There fore many different equations have proposed to evaluate them for certain areas. In this work a new correlation has been made to predict the solar radiation for 16 different areas over Korea by estimating the regression coefficients taking into account cloud cover. Particularly, the straight line regression model proposed shows reliable results for estimating the global radiation on a horizontal surface with monthly average deviation of-0.26 to +0.53% and each station annual average deviation of -1.61 to +1.7% from measured values.

  • Since the solar energy resource is the main input for sizing any solar photovoltaic system and solar thermal power system, it is essential to utilize the solar radiation data as a application and development of solar energy system increase. It will be necessary to understand and evaluate the insolation data. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has begun collecting horizontal global insolation data since May, 1982 at 16 different locations in Korea and for the more detailed analysis, Images taken by geostationary satellite may be used to estimate solar irradiance fluxes at earth's surface. It is based on the empirical correlation between a satellite derived cloud index and the irradiance at the ground. From the results, the measured data has been collected at 16 different stations and estimated using satellite at 23 different stations over the South Korea from 1982 to 2009. The Result of analysis shows that the annual-average daily global radiation on the horizontal surface is $3.56kWh/m^2/day$.

  • It is necessary to estimate empirical constants in order to predict the monthly mean daily global radiation on a horizontal surface in the developing areas for alternative energy. Therefore many different equations have proposed to evaluate them for certain areas. In this work a new correlation has been made to predict the solar radiation for any areas over Korea by calculating the regression models taking into account latitude, percentage of possible sunshine, and cloud cover. From the results, the single linear equation proposed by using percentage of possible sunshine method shows reliable results for estimating the global radiation with average annual deviation of -3.1 to +0.6 % from measured values.

  • Since the solar radiation is the main input for sizing any solar photovoltaic system, it will be necessary to understand and evaluate the solar radiation data. The works presented here is the analysis of solar radiation data for East-North Asia areas. The data utilized in the analysis consist of the global radiation on horizontal surface, measured at 2 different stations during 3 years for the period from 2002 to 2004 and estimated using satellite at 27 different stations over the China and Mongolia. Also the measured data has been collected at 16 different stations all of the South Korea and estimated using satellite at 12 different stations over the North Korea from 1982 to 2005. The Result of analysis shows that the annual-average daily global radiation on the horizontal surface is $3.57\;MJ/m^2$. We conclude, based on the analysis, that East-North Asia areas have sufficient solar energy resources for the photovoltaic power generation system.

  • While global solar radiation is an essential input variable in crop models, the observation stations are relatively sparse compared with other meteorological elements. Instead of using measured solar radiation, the Angstrom-Prescott model estimates have been widely used. Monthly data for solar radiation and sunshine duration are a convenient basis for deriving Angstrom-Prescott coefficients (a, b), but it is uncertain whether daily solar radiation could be estimated with a sufficient accuracy by the monthly data - derived coefficients. We derived the Angstrom-Prescott coefficients from the 25 years observed global solar radiation and sunshine duration data at 18 locations across South Korea. In order to figure out any improvements in estimating daily solar radiation by replacing monthly data with daily data, the coefficients (a, b) for each month were derived separately from daily data and monthly data. Local coefficients for eight validation sites were extracted from the spatially interpolated maps of the coefficients and used to estimate daily solar radiation from September 2008 to August 2009 when, pyranometers were operated at the same sites for validation purpose. Comparison with the measured radiation showed a better performance of the daily data - derived coefficients in estimating daily global solar radiation than the monthly data - derived coefficients, showing 9.3% decrease in the root mean square error (RMSE).

  • Since the solar radiation is main input for sizing any solar photovoltaic system and solar thermal power system, it will be necessary to understand and evaluate the insolation data. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has begun collecting horizontal global insolation data since May, 1982 and direct normal insolation data since December 1992 at 16 different locations. Because of a poor reliability of existing data, KIER's new data will be extensively used by solar energy system users as well as by research institutes. Among some significant results, the yearly averaged horizontal global insolation was turned out 3.60 kWh/$m^2$/day and the yearly mean 2.62 kWh/$m^2$/day of the direct normal insolation was evaluated for all days.

  • This study represented experimental research on the flat plate solar collector. For the flat plate Solar system, it is sensitive of the Global radiation. In Actually, it suppose to be dependent on the direct radiation. Also, the existing method's factors are depend upon Global radiation in the flat plate collector system. therefore it needs which is depend upon direct radiation. In this experiment, the flat plate collector is used for obtaining the method's factors of the direct radiation. As a result, the correct $({\tau}{\alpha})_e$ is found out for practical value.

  • The domestic solar radial ion data have been measured at 16 different sites all over the country since the beginning of 1980. It is very important that the fundamental data for the estimation and assessment of local solar radiation can be secured this project. In order to estimate available energy resource from solar radiation, it is necessary to have enough data, more than 30 years In any country. However since we have collected solar radiation(global radial ion including direct normal radiation) data only for 10 years we still need to measure insolation to secure the reliability and standardization of measured local solar radial ion data. In brief, the major activities on this R&D include rout me maintenance of the national network for insolation data measurement, evaluation of the collected data, and reliability enhancement for assessing the quality of solar radiation data as well.
