  • Transient global amnesia is a syndrome of temporary loss of short-term memory and is not accompanied by any other neurological deficit. Diffusion-weighted imaging is useful to improve the diagnostic accuracy of transient global amnesia. We report a 68-year-old woman with multiple lesions on diffusion-weighted imaging in the right corpus callosum and left hippocampus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a diffusion-weighted imaging lesion in the body portion of the corpus callosum.

  • As the demand for high-quality rendering for mixed reality, videogame, and simulation has increased, global illumination has been actively researched. Monte Carlo path tracing can realize global illumination and produce photorealistic scenes that include critical effects such as color bleeding, caustics, multiple light, and shadows. If the sampling rate is insufficient, however, the rendered results have a large amount of noise. The most successful approach to eliminating or reducing Monte Carlo noise uses a feature-based filter. It exploits the scene characteristics such as a position within a world coordinate and a shading normal. In general, the techniques are based on the denoised pixel or sample and are computationally expensive. However, the main challenge for all of them is to find the appropriate weights for every feature while preserving the details of the scene. In this paper, we compare the recent algorithms for removing Monte Carlo noise in terms of their performance and quality. We also describe their advantages and disadvantages. As far as we know, this study is the first in the world to compare the artificial intelligence-based denoising methods for Monte Carlo rendering.

  • This study aimed to investigate the mechanism by which service companies transfer their services overseas and create new value while interacting with local characteristics. A narrative analysis method was used in a case study of Ajisen Ramen, a Japanese service company that created a Japanese-style ramen restaurant, which experienced rapid growth in China. This study analyzed the restaurant as global service innovation and constructed a causal mechanism to explain the resulting rapid growth. In the pre-entry stage, the tangible value source core service facilitated its successful overseas transfer. In the post-entry stage, value source core service standardization and value sharing were interrelated and locally accepted factors. Knowledge of the local characteristics influenced the local storefront format that allowed contact with local customers. This local front format made it possible to offer local customers new value. The global service innovation mechanism developed through this study reflects a causal diagram that correlated the theoretical concepts of these events.

  • Quinolone resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae is related to mutations in the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV genes. DW-286a displayed potent activity against S. pneumoniae C9211 (MIC, 0.015 ${\mu}$g/ml) compared with gemifloxacin (MIC, 0.06 ${\mu}$g/ml). This study was performed to analyze the ability of DW-286a to cause resistance development in S. pneumoniae and to establish whether DNA gyrase or topoisomerase IV is primary target. DW-286a resistant mutants of S. pneumoniae C9211 were generated by stepwise selection at increasing drug concentration. (omitted)

  • This paper provides empirical evidence on the reorganization of GVCs in East Asia, highlighting that structural trends explain a decrease in the fragmentation of production after 2011 but that it is not the result of rising trade costs along the value chain. Using harmonized inter-country input-output tables, the paper first analyzes the global import intensity of production to document changes in the structure of GVCs. It then calculates theory-consistent bilateral trade costs for intermediate and final products using an approach derived from the gravity literature and introduces a new index of cumulative trade costs along the value chain. These data are used to discuss whether the decrease in global imports is the consequence of shifts in demand, efficiency-enhancing strategies of firms or rising trade costs. Between 2011 and 2016, cumulative trade costs have decreased in East Asian GVCs. However, as COVID-19 is likely to intensify trade and investment uncertainties, trade costs could increase in the future. Policies aimed at reducing uncertainties and preserving the gains from trade and investment liberalization will be key in this new environment.

  • Damping-off symptoms were frequently observed in young deltoid synurus (Synurus deltoides) plants grown in a farmer's vinyl greenhouse located in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, Korea, during a disease survey in July 2019. The incidence of diseased plants in the vinyl greenhouse investigated was 5-30%. Five isolates of Rhizoctonia sp. were obtained from the diseased plants and identified as Rhizoctonia solani AG-1 (IB), based on morphological and cultural characteristics and anastomosis test results. Three isolates of R. solani AG-1 (IB) were tested for pathogenicity on deltoid synurus using artificial inoculation. All the tested isolates induced damping-off symptoms in the inoculated plants. The symptoms were similar to those observed in plants from the farmer's vinyl greenhouse. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of R. solani AG-1 (IB) causing damping-off in deltoid synurus.

  • Stem rot symptoms were observed in Gondre (Cirsium setidens) plants growing in a vinyl greenhouse in Taebaek, Korea during a disease survey in June 2022. The plants presented with dark brown to black rot on the stems at or above the soil line. Severely diseased plants displayed wilt and blight. Disease incidence among these plants ranged from 1 to 5%. Three isolates of Rhizoctonia sp. were obtained from the stem lesions of diseased plants. All isolates were identified as Rhizoctonia solani AG-2-2(IV) based on the morphological and cultural characteristics, results of the anastomosis test, and phylogenetic analysis. The pathogenicity of the isolates to Gondre plants was confirmed using an artificial inoculation test. The lesions induced by the inoculation test were similar to those observed in the investigated vinyl greenhouse. Here, we report a case of R. solani AG-2-2(IV) causing stem rot in Gondre.

  • Planarization technique is rapidly recognized as a critical step in chip fabrication due to the increase in wiring density and the trend towards a three dimensional structure. Global planarity requires the preferential removal of the projecting features. Also, the several materials i.e. Si semiconductor, oxide dielectric and sluminum interconnect on the chip, should be removed simultaneously in order to produce a planar surface. This research has investihgated the development of the chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) machine with uniform pressure and velocity mechanism, and the pad insensitive to pattern topography named hard grooved(HG) pad for global planarization. Finally, a successful result of uniformity less than 5% standard deviation in residual oxide film and planarity less than 15nm in residual step height of 4 inch device wafer, is achieved.

  • During disease surveys from 2019 to 2021, the authors frequently encountered leaf spot symptoms on Fischer's ragwort plants growing at fields at six locations of Gangwon Province, Korea. The symptoms displayed brown to dark brown, circular or irregular spots on the plant leaves. The disease surveys at the six locations revealed 1-90% of diseased leaves of the plants. Phoma sp. was dominantly isolated from the diseased leaf lesions. Seven single-spore isolates of the fungus were selected and identified as Didymella ligulariae by investigation of their cultural, morphological, and molecular characteristics. Artificial inoculation test to Fischer's ragwort leaves was conducted with three isolates of D. ligulariae. The inoculation test revealed that the tested isolates cause leaf spot symptoms in the plants similar to the natural ones. The fungal pathogen has never been reported to cause leaf spot in Fischer's ragwort. Leaf spot of Fischer's ragwort caused by D. ligulariae is first reported in this study.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for generating a global path for an unmanned vehicle using public data of road section information. First, the method of analyzing road section information of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is presented. Second, we propose a method of preprocessing the acquired road section information and processing it into meaningful data that can be used for global routes. Third, we present a method for generating a global path using the preprocessed road section information. The proposed method has proven its effectiveness through actual autonomous driving experiments of unmanned ground vehicles.
