  • Research in the Servitization of Manufacturing has become focused more on cases than concepts over the past decade. This is because governments have emphasized some practical research with policies to support their industries. Manufacturers need differentiated strategies to gain competitiveness by servitization in the global market. They should examine how common servitization has become in the same industries and markets. They should also make sure how it works and for what purpose it is done since it is necessary to make the best decision to be able to distribute the limited resources most effectively to defeat the global competitors. South Korea has the sixth largest trade volume in the world, but Korean SMEs' marketing capabilities fall short compared to that of major global companies. This paper seeks to develop the proper model and its application for the servitization with global cases which are recommended for Korean SMEs. They need to check the urgency in servitization according to their products, industries and target markets. In addition, factors such as purposes, time and types of the servitization are examined to see how they are related each other. The most significant implication of this study is that the processes for early-stage companies in servitazation are modeled to help them make the best choices.

  • We propose an global color model based method for tracking motions of multiple human using a networked multiple-camera system in intelligent space as a human-robot coexistent system. An intelligent space is a space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors(color CCD cameras for example), are distributed. Human beings can be a part of intelligent space as well. One of the main goals of intelligent space is to assist humans and to do different services for them. In order to be capable of doing that, intelligent space must be able to do different human related tasks. One of them is to identify and track multiple objects seamlessly. In the environment where many camera modules are distributed on network, it is important to identify object in order to track it, because different cameras may be needed as object moves throughout the space and intelligent space should determine the appropriate one. This paper describes appearance based unknown object tracking with the distributed vision system in intelligent space. First, we discuss how object color information is obtained and how the color appearance based model is constructed from this data. Then, we discuss the global color model based on the local color information. The process of learning within global model and the experimental results are also presented.

  • Internet is changing all of the commercial practices and customs on international business transaction. So called e-Trade in global marketing is expected to dominate the global trade in 21st century and thus is being introduced as a major mission assignment for exporting countries. e-Trade has the potential to accelerated existing threads and introduce new ways of carrying out global trade. It is especially important in Korea, which has a high dependency rate on trade. Trade efficiency through the channel of e-Trade is an alternative to strengthen international competition of korean small and medium sized global trading firm.

  • This paper presents an extended computing procedure for the global optimization of the triple response system (TRS) where the response functions are nonconvex (nonconcave) quadratics and the input factors satisfy a radial region of interest. The TRS arising from response surface modeling can be approximated using a nonlinear mathematical program involving one primary (objective) function and two secondary (constraints) functions. An optimization algorithm named triple response surface algorithm (TRSALG) is proposed to determine the global optimum for the nondegenerate TRS. In TRSALG, the Lagrange multipliers of target (secondary) functions are computed by using the Hooke-Jeeves search method, and the Lagrange multiplier of the radial constraint is located by using the trust region (TR) method at the same time. To ensure global optimality that can be attained by TRSALG, included is the means for detecting the degenerate case. In the field of numerical optimization, as the family of TR approach always exhibits excellent mathematical properties during optimization steps, thus the proposed algorithm can guarantee the global optimal solution where the optimality conditions are satisfied for the nondegenerate TRS. The computing procedure is illustrated in terms of examples found in the quality literature where the comparison results with a gradient-based method are used to calibrate TRSALG.

  • This paper proposes a training algorithm for global optimization of the parameters of radial basis function networks. Since conventional training algorithms usually perform only local optimization, the performance of the network is limited and the final network significantly depends on the initial network parameters. The proposed hybrid simulated annealing algorithm performs global optimization of the network parameters by combining global search capability of simulated annealing and local optimization capability of gradient-based algorithms. Via experiments for function approximation problems, we demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can find networks showing better training and test performance and reduce effects of the initial network parameters on the final results.

  • In order to develop high value fashion culture products capable of reaching the global market, this study developed the original traditional clothing design of Northeast Asian countries according to a global perspective. This study applied the structural formality of traditional clothing to fashion cultural products. This study developed designs using Deel of Mongolia, Makap of China Korean Dang-ui / Dan-ryung, and Haori of Japan. The research methods are theoretically examined using literature on traditional clothing in Northeast Asia. First, it designed a shirt design using Adobe Illustrator CS6 and created a pattern with the Yuka program as well as applied CLO 5.0 (a 3D virtual dressing system from CLO Virtual Fashion Co.). A survey was also conducted on individual interest for the developed fashion cultural products. The design method obtained various design effects by applying the method of adding point detail parts of the clothes to the shirt that represented each country among their traditional clothes. This research can be used as basic data for the global fashion cultural products market that can contribute to maintaining the originality of each country in the global era, expanding tourism income to succeed and develop culture and tradition.

  • Much of the behavior of doctors reflects the influences from the social, cultural, historical, and economic environment of the time. Therefore, it is very important for future doctors to understand the practice environment in an ever changing world. Traditionally, doctors' competence has been based on the doctor-patient relationship. However, the social practice of medicine in the contemporary era asks future doctors to have social competencies, which often are defined as non-clinical competencies. As a global project, the World Federation for Medical Education has urged every country to define the future role of doctors to encompass global roles based on the duty toward and value of clinical as well as non-clinical competencies. In the past four years, Korean medical professional societies have coordinated to set forth the global role of Korean doctors. Five domains of clinical competence, professionalism, social accountability, communication and collaboration, and education and research have been chosen. The current version of the "global role of Korean doctors" can be used not only for the common objectives of medical education, but also for translating into the competencies of doctors that can be achieved through life-long learning. If we all want to improve medical education in order to produce more qualified and competent doctors as the public desires, then it may be the most urgent task to produce doctors who are equipped with social competencies to persuade, negotiate, and engage in constructive dialogues with society for better health care for a better society.

  • In vitro antibacterial activity of DW286 was tested against recently collected clinical isolates of Gram-positive strains by the two fold agar dilution method. In vivo activity of DW286 was also determined against systemic infections in mice caused by Staphylococcus aureus. DW286 showed 16~64-fold more potent in vitro activities than ciprofloxacin against Gram-positive bacteria. Against systemic infection model caused by two S. aureus strains, one being methicillin-susceptible and the other methicillin-resistant, DW286 ($ED_{50}s$, 0.16 mg/kg and 4.36 mg/kg, respectively) was more potent than gemifloxacin (1.37 mg/kg, 26.58 mg/kg, respectively).

  • This paper concerns the development of a designer friendly hull form parameterization and its coupling with advanced global optimization algorithms. As optimization algorithms, we choose the Partial Swarm Optimization(PSO) recently introduced to solve global optimization problems. Most general-purpose optimization softwares used in industrial applications use gradient-based algorithms, mainly due to their convergence properties and computational efficiency when a relatively few number of variables are considered. However, local optimizers have difficulties with local minima and non-connected feasible regions. Because of the increase of computer power and of the development of efficient Global Optimization (GO) methods, in recent years nongradient-based algorithms have attracted much attention. Furthermore, GO methods provide several advantages over local approaches. In the paper, the derivative-based SQP and the GO approach PSO are compared with their relative performances in solving some typical ship design optimization problem focusing on their effectiveness and efficiency.
