  • Necessity of security reinforcement has been increased these days. As a result, surveillance systems using CCTV and the patrol system by person have been applied to security zone. However, CCTV has a blind spot and CCTV itself cannot handle emergency situation. Patrol system by person is economically expensive. To overcome these disadvantages, this paper presents an image-based surveillance system using unmanned aircraft. As a default, unmanned aircraft traces lines installed on ground which represents path for patrolling. If the aircraft detects objects, then it keeps a constant distance between object without missing the object in the image. Simulation results show that the proposed system can be operated even with unmanned aircraft with low specification.

  • This paper presents an augmented reality system for multiple users. The proposed system performs ar image-based pose estimation of users and pose of each user is shared with other uses via a network server. For camera-based pose estimation, we install multiple markers in a pre-determined space and select the marker with the best appearance. The marker is detected by corner point detection and for robust pose estimation. the marker's corner points are tracked by optical flow tracking algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed system successfully provides an augmented reality application to multiple users even when users are rapidly moving and some of markers are occluded by users.

  • In this paper, a new user interface for unmanned combat vehicle(UCV) is developed based on the mission planning and global path planning. In order to complete a tactical mission given to an UCV, it is essential to design an effective interface scheme between human and UCV considering changing combat environment and characteristics of the mission. The user interface is mainly composed of two parts, mission planning and global path planning, since they are important factors to accomplish combat missions. First of all, mission types of UCV are identified. Based on mission types, the concept of mission planning for UCVs is presented. Then a new method for global path planning is devised. It is capable of dealing with multiple grid maps to consider various combat factors so that paths suitable for the mission be generated. By combining these two, a user interface method is suggested. It is partially implemented in the Dog-horse Robot of ADD and its effectiveness is verified.

  • In this study, we investigated spatio-temporal eye-hand coordination by the "Global effect paradigm", a target-distracter configuration Global effect is observed a variety of visual tasks, for example, during rapid automatic tracking, scanning for target detail, and the comparison of target configurations. Global effect used to investigate eye-hand coordination with a task that presents a target close to a distracter. Eight young subjects participated in the experiments. The experiments consist of using a distracter less eccentric than the targe1 and using a distracter more eccentric than target. Each experiment consist of tasks which are making reference, pointing the target with watching visual stimulation(saccade) and pointing the target. The subject's task was to move towards the target as quickly as possible. We measured the eye movement by using EOG and the hand movement by using NDI Optotrak system. This study shows that eye and hand movement exists for global effect paradigm in spatio-temporal coordination.

  • Salinity gradient power (SGP) systems have strong potential to generate sustainable clean electricity for 24 hours. Here, we introduce a solid-salt pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO) system using crystal salt powders rather than seawater. Solid salts have advantages such as a small storage volume, controllable solubility, high Gibbs dissolution energy, and a single type of water intake, low pretreatment costs. The power densities with 3 M draw solutions were $11W/m^2$ with exothermic energy and $8.9W/m^2$ without at 35 bar using a HTI FO membrane (water permeability $A=0.375L\;m^{-2}h^{-1}bar^{-1}$). These empirical power densities are ~13% of the theoretical value.

  • This paper attempts to assess the Basel Committee's bank supervisory standards and capital adequacy rules, and thereby rethink whether global convergence in banking regulation is desirable. To that end, it seeks to address the impetus for the creation of the Basel Committee, and explore driving forces behind the internationalization of bank regulatory and supervisory standards. Following the historical and theoretical analysis of the internationalization of bank regulatory standards, the movement toward global standards in banking is reviewed. More importantly, this paper seeks to explore the origins of the Basel Accord on bank capital adequacy. To do so, it largely relies on current theories on the process of negotiating the capital adequacy standards in the areas of political science and international political economy. At this point, this study takes a position as a break against the force of international market failure logic that has enjoyed an exceptionally positive reception among economists, political scientists, and legal experts. Nonetheless, it does not intend to freeze the international coordination and cooperation of banking regulation. Given the understanding of the politics behind the creation of the Basel Accord, this paper evaluates the Basel Accord of 1988 and the new capital adequacy framework(Basel II), and then moves beyond the assessment of the capital adequacy standards In doing so, this study draws lessons from Basel in search of a just world order in the global finance.

  • Purpose - Today's world is rapidly changing due to swift changes in organization's infrastructures and supply chain is becoming an important factor which affects the organization's global competitiveness. Research design / data / methodology - Researchers indicated that environment uncertainty is considered an external driving force to establish a unique supply chain. Market competition, reducing the gap of performance and quality between the products are compelling the practitioners and researcher to change the paradigm of managing the business processes effectively and efficiently. Results - In old times, supply chain of any organization was measured on the basis of inventory turns, defect rats, lead times, stock buffering and service level. But, Lee H.L. in 2004, published an article in Harvard Business Review who proposed three A (Adaptable, Agile and Aligned) termed as "Triple-A" of successful supply chain. Conclusions - He claimed that organizations can compete through the creation of Triple-A supply chain. Hence, the basic aim of this review paper is to develop basic insights regarding what is Triple-A of supply chain, its importance and functioning in today's competitive world.

  • This paper proposes a new haptic device using a parallel mechanism with gimbal type actuators. This device has three legs actuated by 2-DOF gimbal mechanisms, which make the device simple and light by fixing all the actuators to the base. Three extra sensors are placed at passive joints to obtain a unique solution of the forward kinematics problem. The proposed haptic device is developed for an operator to use it on a desktop in due consideration of the size of an average Korean. The proposed haptic device has a small workspace for on operator to use it on a desktop and more sensitivity than a serial type haptic device. Therefore, the motors of the proposed haptic device are fixed at the base plate so that the proposed haptic device has a better dynamic bandwidth due to a low moving inertia. With this conceptual design, optimization of the design parameters is carried out. The objective function is defined by the fuzzy minimum of the global design indices, global force/moment isotropy index, global force/moment payload index, and workspace. Each global index is calculated by a SVD (singular value decomposition) of the force and moment parts of the jacobian matrix. Division of the jacobian matrix assures a consistency of the units in the matrix. Due to the nonlinearity of this objective function, Genetic algorithms are adopted for a global optimization.
