  • Glassy carbon is widely used for high temperature melting process such as quartz due to its thermal stability. For utilizing Classy Carbon to glass mold press(GMP) optical lens, brittleness of Glassy Carbon is main obstacle of ultraprecision machining. Thus authors investigated ductile machining of Glassy Carbon adopting turning and grinding process respectively. From the experiments, ultraprecision turning surfaces resulted brittle crack in all machining conditions and ultraprecision grinding surfaces showed semi-ductile mode in small undeformed chip thickness conditions.

  • Successful coating of high quality glassy carbon is introduced by applying high pressure during the curing process of dip-coated phenol resin on graphite. The dependence of the applied pressure on the quality of the glassy carbon layer has not been reported so far. Pressure was changed from 0 to 400 psi during curing at $200^{\circ}C$. After carbonized at $1100^{\circ}C$ in inert atmosphere for the 400 psicured sample, as a promising result, a thick (~ 3 mm) and smooth glassy carbon layer could be obtained without any breakage, and the yield of carbonization was remarkably increased. It is believed that the cross-linking of resins results in decreasing volatile contents and, thus, increasing the yield of the glassy carbon. The origin of the improvement is discussed on the basis of several analytical results including FE-SEM, FT-IT and Raman spectrum.

  • Electrode surface reaction on glassy carbon and synthesized graphite (PVDF mixed graphite) in sulfuric acid solution is investigated by impedance spectroscopy at cyclic polarization. The redox peak, which may be due to the change of chemical adsorped functional group on electrode surface or oxidation and reduction of oxygen, is represented on glassy carbon and graphite electrode in potentio-dynamic current curve. The oxidation and reduction of these surface functional group on glassy carbon and PVDF mixed graphite have a major affect on the impedance spectrum and Faraday impedance parameter at cyclic polarization.

  • Glassy carbon can be utilized in a variety of harsh environment due to exceptional thermal stability and chemically impermeability along with scalability and low electrical resistance. In this work, we studied effects of electron(e)-beam irradiation on thermoelectric properties of the glassy carbon film. E-beam irradiation triggered local crystallization and/or amorphization of glassy carbon thin films, which was determined by a Raman spectroscopy. The structural change by e-beam irradiation leads to the change in the doping level of the glassy carbon, which can be inferred from the change of a Seebeck coefficient and an electric conductivity. The optimal power factor we obtained for the irradiated glassy carbon film was ~200% higher than that of the non-irradiated sample.

  • The Cu-based bulk glassy alloys in Cu-Zr-Ti-Ni systems were prepared by means of copper mold casting. The Cu-based bulk glassy alloys samples were tested by X-ray diffractomer (XRD), differential scanning calorimeter, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Instron testing machine and Vickers hardness instruments. The result indicated that the prepared Cu-Zr-Ti-Ni alloys were bulk glassy alloys. The temperature interval of supercooled liquid region (${\Delta}T_x$) was about 45.48 to 70.98 K for the Cu-Zr-Ti-Ni alloy. The Vickers hardness was up to 565 HV for the $Cu_{50}Zr_{25}Ti_{15}Ni_{10}$ bulk glassy alloy. The $Cu_{50}Zr_{25}Ti_{15}Ni_{10}$ bulk glassy alloys were annealed in order to obtain nanocrystals. The results showed that the Vickers hardness was raise up to 630 HV from 565 HV. As shown in XRD results, the amorphous alloys changed to nanocrystals, which were $Cu_8Zr_3$, $Cu_3Ti_2$ and CuZr, improved the hardness. The SEM analysis showed that the compression fractured morphology of amorphous alloys was brittle fracture, and the fracture morphology after annealing was ductile fracture. This proved that annealing of amorphous to nanocrystals can improve the plasticity and toughness of amorphous alloys.

  • Glassy cell carcinoma is an unusual neoplasm of the uterine cervix that accounts for $1{\sim}2%$ of all cervical malignancy. It is a rapidly progressive and biologically aggressive disease with poor response to therapy. This tumor is considered to be a poorly differentiated mixed adenosquamous carcinoma. The cytologic findings are characterized by tumor cells arranged predominantly in syncytial like aggregates and an inflammatory background. The tumor cells have moderate amounts of eosinophilic or amphophilic cytoplasm, which is often finely granular. The nuclei are relatively large and have fine chromatin with prominent eosinophilic nucleoli. Cytologically, glassy cell carcinoma is most likely to be confused with large cell nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma and with atypical reparative cells. Herein, we report three cases of glassy cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix diagnosed by cervicovaginal smear and confirmed by histologic section with review of literatures.

  • The absence of deep traps for electrons in the spectrum of $As_{40}Se_{30}S_30$ localized states films obtained by ion sputtering was determined. Bipolar drift of charge carriers was found in amorphous $As_{40}Se_{30}S_30$ films of chalcogenide glassy semiconductors, obtained by ion-plasma sputtering of high-frequency, unlike the films of these materials obtained by thermal evaporation.

  • Chalcogenide glassy semiconductors(CGS) can be obtained by the melt quenching technique. We have investigated the thin film heterostructures : metal-chalcogenide glassy semiconductors, where metal is copper, and chalcogenide glassy semiconductors are glasses of the system As-Se. CU/CGS film heterostructure were produced in the vacuum evaporator by the method of vacuum thermal evaporation. Doped films are very sensitive to external actions, and this property allows developing supersensitive precision sensors of temperature, humidity, illumination, and etc. based on them. Cu/CGS film has shown that resistance strongly depend on the temperature. The ratio of resistance vs. temperature has shown over a 2 k$\Omega$/degree. The slop of temperature and resistance shows linear.

  • In this study, glassy carbon was ground for lens core of glass mold press. Ultraprecision grinding process was applied for machining of core surfaces. During the process, brittle crack occurred because of hard-brittleness of glassy carbon. Author investigated optimized grinding conditions from the viewpoint of ductile mode grinding. Geometrical undeformed chip thickness was adopted for critical chip thickness that enables crack free surface. Machined cores are utilized for biaspheric glass lens fabrication and surfaces of lens were compared for verification of ground surface.
