An approach to a novel modelling of structural reinforced glass beams in modern material components

  • In modern buildings, glass is considered a structurally unsafe material due to its brittleness and unpredictable failure behavior. The possible use of structural glass elements (i.e., floors, beams and columns) is generally prevented by its poor tensile strength and a frequent occurrence of brittle failures. In this study an innovative modelling based on an equivalent thickness concept of laminated glass beam reinforced with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) composite material and of glass plates punched is presented. In particular, the novel numerical modelling applied to an embedding Carbon FRP-rod in the interlayer of a laminated structural glass beam is considered in order to increase both its failure strength, together with its post-failure strength and ductility. The proposed equivalent modelling of different specimens enables us to carefully evaluate the effects of this reinforcement. Both the responses of the reinforced beam and un-reinforced one are evaluated, and the corresponding results are compared and discussed. A novel equivalent modelling for reinforced glass beams using FRP composites is presented for FEM analyses in modern material components and proved estimations of the expected performance are provided. Moreover, the new suggested numerical analysis is also applied to laminated glass plates with wide holes at both ends for the technological reasons necessary to connect a glass beam to a structure. Obtained results are compared with an integer specimen. Experimental considerations are reported.

Glass Frit의 입도가 MLCC 외부전극 Paste의 소결거동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Glass Frit Size on the Sintering Behavior of Cu Termination Paste in MLCC)

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) have continually been made smaller in size and larger in capacity in resent years. However, the end termination electrode is still thick in many MLCCs. In this study, we used small grain glass frit to embody thin film and highly densification in the end termination by improve sintering driving force with well-dispersion and rising surface energy. Pastes were fabricated using size changed glass frit, such as 0.1 ${\mu}m$, 0.5 ${\mu}m$, 1.0 ${\mu}m$, 4.0 ${\mu}m$. Fabricated pastes were applied 05A475KQ5 chip and fired various sintering temperatures to analyze sintering behavior of pastes. Consequently, small glass frit used pastes have many merits than larger, such as well-dispersion, improve cornercoverage and surface roughness, possibility of low temperature sintering. However, we confirmed that small glass frit used pastes have narrow sintering window by rapid completion of sintering densification.

알루미나를 충전재로 첨가한 붕규산염 유리의 소결 및 결정화 방지기구에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Sintering and Mechanism of Crystallization Prevention of Alumina Filled Borosilicate Glass)

  • The predominant sintering mechanisms of low firing temperature ceramic substrate which consists of borosilicate glass containing alumina as a filler are the rearrangement of alumina particles and the viscous flow of glass powders. In this system, sintering condition depends on the volume ratio of alumina to glass and on the particle size. When the substrate contains about 35 vol% alumina filler and the average alumina particle size is 4 $\mu\textrm{m}$, the best firing condition is obtained at the temperature range of 900∼1000$^{\circ}C$. The extensive rearrangement behavior occurs at these conditions, and the optimum sintering condition is attained by smaller size of glass particles, too. The formation of cristobalite during sintering causes the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between the substrate and Si chip. This phenomenon degradates the capacity of Si chip. Therefore, the crystallization should be prevented. In the alumina filled borosilicate glass system, the crystallization does not occur. This effect may have some relation with aluminum ions in alumina. For aluminum ions diffuse into glass matrix during sintering, functiong as network former.

소결법에 의한 다공질유리의 제조 (Preparation of Porous Glass by the Sintering)

  • Manufacturing process of porous glass by the filler method was studied. Commercial soda-lime-silicate glass powder was mixed with inorganic salt as the filler such as KCl, K2SO4, Na2SO4. Sintering shrinkages of mixed powders with the variation of sintering temperature were compared, and the effects of the fillers to shrinkages of mixed powder were increased in the order of Na2SO4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of pore diameter were manufactured when the filler sizes 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The open pore volume of porous glass is determined by the quantity of filler and porous glasses having open pore volume between 30 and 70 vol% are available. Available sintering temperature range for preparation of porous glass is from the softening temperature of the glass powder to eutectic melting temperature of DTA curve of mixed powder.

Redox Reaction of Multivalent Ions in Glass Melts

  • The redox reaction $M^{(x+n)+}+\frac{n}{2}O^{-2}{\rightleftarrows}M^{x+}+\frac{n}{4}O_2$ of multivalent ions in glass melts influences the melting process and final properties of the glass including the fining (removal of bubbles), infrared absorption and homogenization of melts, reaction between metal electrodes and melts or refractory and melts, and transmission and color of glass. In this review paper, the redox behaviors that occur frequently in the glass production process are introduced and the square wave voltammetry (SWV) is described in detail as an in situ method of examining the redox behavior of multivalent ions in the melt state. Finally, some voltammetry results for LCD glass melts are reviewed from the practical viewpoint of SWV.

  • This study concentrates the effect of hybridisation on the collapse mode and energy absorption for composite cylinders. The static collapse behavior of laminated(Al/CFRP/GFRP) circular-cylindrical composite shell under quasi-static axial compressive load has been investigated experimentally. Eight different hybrids of laminated(Al/CFRP/GFRP) circular-cylindrical composite shell were fabricated by autoclave. Eight types of composites were tested, namely, Al/carbon fiber/epoxy, Al/glass fiber/epoxy, Al/carbon-carbon-glass/epoxy, Al/carbon-glass-carbon/epoxy, Al/carbon-glass-glass/epoxy, Al/glass-glass-carbon/epoxy, Al/glass-carbon-glass/epoxy and Al/glass-carbon-carbon/epoxy. Collpase modes were highly dominated by the effect of hybridisation. The results also showed that the hybrid member with material sequence of Al-glass-carbon-carbon/epoxy exhibited good energy absorption capability.

공통의 Glass를 이용한 LTCC 이종소재의 무수축 접한 (Bonding of Different Mate using Common Glass in Zero Shrinkage LTCC)

  • To improve warpage, delamination and the chemical reaction between 2 different co-fired materials, the bonding behavior with common glass was studied. As shown in the previous paper, the phenomenon of the infiltration is different with the composition of the glass. In particular, in the case of low temperature melting glass, infiltration is experimented in this study. GA-1 glass is infiltrated among $BaTiO_3$ particles below $800^{\circ}C$ and is made by glass/ceramic composite. Until the laminate is fired under $850^{\circ}C$, provskite phase is observed. Although in the case of GA-12 glass, the temperature of the glass infiltration is lower than it of GA-l glass, the perovskite phase already disappears at $800^{\circ}C$. As a result, GA-1 and GA-12 glasses are infiltrated among particles at low temperature, however, the chemical reactivity of the glass/ceramic and sintering temperature should be considered.

고밀도 폐유리를 잔골재로 사용한 RC 부재의 휨거동에 관한 해석적 연구 (Analytical Study on Flexural Behavior of Concrete Member using Heavyweight Waste Glass as Fine Aggregate)

  • 고밀도 폐유리가 콘크리트를 포함하는 건설 재료로 사용 가능함이 밝혀짐에 따라 본 연구에서는 고밀도 폐유리를 잔골재로 적용한 RC 부재의 구조적 거동을 평가하고자 휨거동 실험을 수행하고 그 결과를 비선형 유한요소해석 결과와 비교 검토하였다. 그 결과, 고밀도 폐유리를 잔골재로 사용하게 되면, 균열 개수가 감소하고 균열 간격 및 압괴 면적이 증가하였다. 또한, 고밀도 폐유리를 잔골재로 대체한 부재는 높은 처짐 단계에서 연성이 감소되었다. 이러한 이유로 천연골재를 사용한 부재와 동일한 방법의 해석 기법은 고밀도 폐유리를 잔골재로 대체한 부재의 휨거동에 대한 초기강성, 항복하중 및 최대하중을 제대로 예측하지 못하는 것으로 나타났으나, 압괴 진전에 따른 중립축 깊이가 감소하는 것을 해석적으로 구현하게 되면, 비선형 유한요소 해석 결과가 실험결과를 비교적 잘 예측하는 것으로 나타났다.

유리섬유 강화 열가소성 복합재료의 2축 인장성형시 재료거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Material Behavior of Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composite in Biaxial Stretch Forming)

  • The object of this study was to investigate the feasibility of solid-phase forming of the composites and to characterize the material behavior in the biaxial stretch forming. The materials tested contained 20%, 30%, and 40% glass fibers by weight in a polypropylene matrix. Biaxial stretch forming tests were performed at three forming speeds of 10mm/sec, 1mm/sec, and 0.1mm/sec and at four forming temperatures of $75^{\circ}C, 100^{\circ}C, 125^{\circ}C, and 150^{\circ}C$ to investigate effects of forming speed and forming temperature. The microscopic observation of a formed part was conducted at various strain levels to characterize the material behavior. The strain distribution on a formed part was measured and displayed on the farmed geometry with a contour display The material behavior of the composite in the biaxial stretch forming was strongly influenced by the forming conditions.

GLARE 의 섬유층 배향이 피로층간분리 거동에 미치는 영향 (Influences of Fiber Laminate Orientation on the Behavior of Fatigue Delamination in GLARE)

  • The behavior of fatigue delamination in a GLARE(Glass Fiber Reinforced Metal Laminates) under fatigue loading conditions investigated. The behavior of fatigue delamination was examined basing on investigation of the crack and delamination using a SAM (Scanning Acoustic Microscope). The crack and delamination behavior on the relationship among a-N, SAM images and crack length-delamination length were considered. The test results indicated the features of different fatigue delamination and crack growth according to each fiber orientation angle and also obtained to more increase delamination than crack through the relationship between crack length and delamination length in GLARE.
