나노고분자막 구조의 이온투과 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Ion Permeability Characteristics in Nano-Polymer Membrane Structures)

  • Ion permeability characteristics in nano-polymer membrane structures are performed to investigate the chemical composition and characteristics of MEA(Membrane Electrolyte Assembly) which is one of the most important parts to decide the performance in PEMFC(Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell) system. Subsequently, the MEA manufacturing process is presented for the uniformed MEA product. In the meantime, the analysis of SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) is carried out in order to investigate the joint aspect and chemical composition of MEA. As a result of SEM analysis, it is found that the bonded catalyst and carbon composition contain the reasonable amount to get unit cell output. It is also found that the humidification gives the better performance result slightly.

  • 겔형 고분자 전해질에 적용 가능한 고분자 매트릭스 중 우수한 기계적 성질 및 높은 유전상수 ($\varepsilon$=8~13)를 가지는 poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoro propylene)[P(VdF-co-HFP)]을 사용하고, Ethylene carbonate (EC)/${\gamma}$-butyrolactone (${\gamma}$-BL)의 혼합용매와 LiCF$_3$SO$_3$를 각각 유기용매와 리튬염으로 사용하여 다양한 농도의 전해액 및 겔형의 고분자 전해질을 제조하였다. 제조된 고분자 전해질의 기계적 성질 및 이온전도도를 고분자 매트릭스와 전해액의 흔합비율에 따라 측정하였다. 28.6 wt%의 P(VdF-co-HFP)가 함유된 PVH40이 $25^{\circ}C$에서 1.09$\times$$10^{-3}$S/cm의 가장 높은 이온전도도 값을 보였고, 인장강도, 인장탄성율, 압축탄성율 모두 P(VdF-co-HFP)의 함량에 따라 증가했으며 PVH70과 PVH80사이에서 급격한 변화를 나타내었다. 동역학적 특성측정 시 전형적인 겔의 거동을 보였고, 적용한 변형의 크기에 따라 저장탄성율(G')과 손실탄성율 (G")이 변화되었다.

  • The present paper highlights on the need to understand the correlation of the characteristics of the catalyst layer with the performance of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell. The paper deals with the correlation of the platinum loading in the catalyst layer and the performance of the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell(PEMFC) and also the correlation of the required hydrophiliticityihydrophobicity in the catalyst layer to get the optimum performance under given operating conditions.

Dye Sensitized Solar Cell using Polymer Electrolytes based on Poly(ethylene oxide) with an Ionic Liquid

  • The encapsulation of volatile organic electrolytes is a major challenge in practical applications of the DSSC. Ionic liquid (IL) within polymer electrolytes is an attractive candidate for replacement. Here we used a low viscosity ionic liquid 1-ethyl 3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate in order to modify ionic conductivity (${\sigma}$) of polymer electrolyte ($PEO:Kl/l_{2}$) and hence DSSC efficiency. The doping of IL enhanced ${\sigma}$ and attained maximum (${\sigma}=7.62{\times}10^{-4}S/cm$) at 80 wt% of IL concentration. Beyond this it was harder to get stable films. XRD confirmed that the intensity of the sharp PEO crystalline peaks decreased when IL was added. The DSC studies confirmed the reduction in crystallinity by adding ionic liquid.The efficiency of solar cell using aforesaid material was 0.6 % at 1 sun irradiation.

  • An object of the present study is to provide a hollow fiber membrane humidifier capable of improving the humidification efficiency while lowering the pressure loss, and is suitably usable for PEMFC(Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell). The performance of PEMFC is decisively dependent on the humidity of the electrolyte membrane(fluorinated membrane) and a humidifier plays an important role in moisturizing electrolyte membrane. Especially this humidifier is adaptable for lower price to promote the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles and is passive type to be power free and to be volumetrically optimized. In this research, we propose the substitutes for the expensive fluorinated materials and the optimum dry-jet wet spinning conditions of hollow fiber membrane to get the fuel cell humidifier. In addition to that we established the standard method of evaluating the moisturizing performance of the humidifier of various materials.

  • To maintain proper operating conditions is important to get optimal output power of a PEMFC stack. The air cooled fuel cell stack is widely used in sub kW PEMFC systems. A 500W air cooled PEMFC stack was experimentally investigated to evaluate the design performance and to get optimal operating conditions for the portable application. The relationship between the operating conditions and the performance was analyzed. The results can be used as design criteria for portable PEMFC under various conditions.

  • 리튬 이온 전지의 가스켓 재료로 사용되기 위해서는 내전해액성, 전기절연성, 낮은 압축 영구 줄음률, 비오염성, 내열성이 요구된다. Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA)보다 압축 영구 줄음률이 우수한 고무의 적합성을 평가하기 위하여 Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), Nitrile Butadiene(NBR), Fluoro Elastomers(FKM), Methyl-Vinyl Silicone Rubber (VMQ), Fluorosilicone(FVMQ)을 이용하여 최적상태의 compound를 제작하고 특성을 살펴보았다. 시험편을 $80^{\circ}C$의 propylene carbonate액에 침적하여 경도 및 체적변화를 1,000시간까지 시간별로 측정하였다. EPDM과 VMQ가 내전해액성이 우수하였으며, 전기절연성에서도 체적저항 기준 $10^{10}{\Omega}cm$이상의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 따라서, EPDM과 VMQ가 적절한 것으로 판단되었다.

GDL을 고려한 고분자전해질형 연료전지 모사 단위 유로 채널에서의 물방울 유동 특성에 대한 실험적인 고찰 (Experimental Investigation of the Water Droplet Dynamics inside the Simulated PEMFC Single Flow Channel with GDL)

  • Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are regarded as a promising alternative to replace the existing automotive power sources. To get high performance and long-term durability for PEMFC systems, novel water management is essential. To this end, a comprehensive understanding of dynamics of the liquid water droplets within an operating PEMFC plays an important role. In this work, direct visualization of dynamic behaviors of the water droplet in the ex situ unit flow channel of a PEMFC including gas diffusion layer (GDL) is carried out as one of the fundamental studies for novel water management. Water droplet dynamics such as the movement and growth of liquid water droplets are mainly presented. Effects of GDL characteristics and inlet air flow rate on the water droplet transport and its removal from the flow channel are also discussed. The data obtained in this study can contribute to build up the fundamental operating strategy including balanced water removal capacity for automotive PEMFC systems.

Flexible Energy-storage Devices: Maneuvers and Intermediate Towards Multi-functional Composites

  • Flexible energy-storage devices (FESDs) have been studied and developed extensively over the last few years because of demands in various fields. Since electrochemical performance and mechanical flexibility must be taken into account together, different framework from composition of conventional energy-storage devices (ESDs) is required. Numerous types of electrodes have been proposed to implement the FESDs. Herein, we review the works related to the FESDs so far and focus on free-standing electrodes and, especially substrate-based ones. The way to utilize carbon woven fabric (CF) or carbon cloth (CC) as flexible substrates is quite simple and intuitive. However, it is meaningful in the point of that the framework exploiting CF or CC can be extended to other applications resulting in multifunctional composites. Therefore, summary, which is on utilization of carbon-based material and conductive substrate containing CF and CC for ESDs, turns out to be helpful for other researchers to have crude concepts to get into energy-storage multi-functional composite. Moreover, polymer electrolytes are briefly explored as well because safety is one of the most important issues in FESDs and the electrolyte part mainly includes difficult obstacles to overcome. Lastly, we suggest some points that need to be further improved and studied for FESDs.
