도시 내 가로수의 광선투과량에 따른 온도저감 효과 - 서울시 서초구를 중심으로 - (Temperature Reduction Effect According to Light Transmittance of Urban Street Trees - Focused on Seocho-gu in Seoul -)

  • With rapid urbanization and reckless urban development in the 21st century, the urban environment has gradually gotten worse, and urban heat island effect has been dramatically intensified. Thus, the importance of street greenery that can mitigate the urban heat island effect has further been highlighted. In this regard, this study was aimed at selecting suitable plant species for street greenery to reduce the urban heat island effect. Towards this end, five roads located in Seocho-gu, Seoul were selected as study sites, and plant species composition and difference of surface temperature were compared and analyzed in relation to the light transmittance. The street with the greatest temperature difference is Bangbae-ro(Platanus occidentalis). On the other hand, the road with the lowest temperature difference is Nambusunhwan-doro(Metasequoia Glyptostroboides). The effect of temperature reduction was found to be associated with light transmittance.Bangbae-ro(Platanus occidentalis) with the lowest light transmittance showed the highest temperature difference and Nambusunhwan-doro(Metasequoia Glyptostroboides) with the highest light transmittance showed the lowest temperature difference. It is analyzed that there are most differences in temperature when the amount of lights coming in between the crown is small. The temperature reduction effect can be obtained by planting deciduous broad-leaved trees. Also species with dense crown and broad width of crown will be able to maximize the effect of temperature reduction. In future studies, it will be necessary to expand the other species of trees in the street, and analyze the germicidal trees and shrubs as well as the differences in the packaging materials.

비접촉식 자외선 광반응조를 이용한 하수 대장균의 살균과 Log 불활성화율 지표 (Disinfection of E. coli from Wastewater using a Non-contact type UV Photoreactor and Log Inactivation Index)

  • Disinfection of microorganisms using UV light is widely used in the field of water supply and wastewater treatment plant, In spite of high germicidal effect and relatively clean by-product, UV disinfection has fundamental defeat that is accumulation of fouling materials at the interface of water and lamp sleeve. Non-contact type of UV photoreactor which can avoid this fouling generation was developed and the experimental performance evaluation of the system was carried out in this study. Log inactivation rate of E. coli was selected as a disinfection index. The concentration of E. coli of second clarifier effluent was $8.2{\times}10^1-8.2{\times}10^3$ colony per mL and was well inactivated by the non-contact type of UV photoreactor. Under the UV intensity condition of $2.1-2.5mW/cm^2$, E. coli removal rate was observed in the range of 54 - 95% when the HRT was increased from 10 to 52 seconds. Experimental results showed that log inactivation of E. coli was proportional to UV dosage and $200mJ/cm^2$ of UV dose is expected for the 2.0 log inactivation of E. coli from the second clarifier effluent. Between the two parameters of UV intensity and contact time which are consist of UV dose, UV intensity was 4 times more effective than contact time.

Insights into the in vitro germicidal activities of Acalypha indica

  • Background and purpose: This study was carried out to learn more about the potential prophylactic or antibacterial activity of the plant Acalypha indica against selective pathogenic bacteria. Experimental: The test organisms were Sarcina lutea IFO 3232, Bacillus subtilis IFO 3026, Pseudomonas denitrificans, Escherichia coli IFO 3007, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATTC 10031, Xanthomonas campestris IAM 1671, and Proteus vulgaris. Leaf, stem, and bud powder of Acalypha indica were dissolved in various solvents, and the extracts were tested for antimicrobial activity through the disc diffusion method. GC-MS profiling was performed to characterize active chemical compounds in the essential oil of Acalypha indica. Results: The ethanol extract showed the highest activity against all bacteria, while the petroleum ether extract yielded the highest zone of inhibition against Proteus vulgaris ($11.83{\pm}1.75mm$). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the ethyl acetate extract against Bacillus subtilis was 16 µg/mL. Phytochemical screening by GC-MS revealed a total of 12 bioactive compounds. Conclusion: Extracts of Acalypha indica may be useful in formulating and synthesizing new antibacterial drugs.

3D-printed Face Shields for Healthcare Professionals Battling COVID-19 Pandemic

  • As the number of reported COVID-19 cases rises around the world, regions affected by the virus are taking serious measures to contain its spread. Face shields are one of the highest-need personal protective equipment (PPE) during COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond traditional face masks, as known cases of the coronavirus soar, currently there is a significant shortage of face shields around the world. In response, the protective face shields were designed and fabricated with open-source 3D modelling software and 3D printing technology, respectively. Our face shield consisted of two parts only; a reusable 3D printed headband and a visor made of transparent plastic sheet, as barrier. The resulting 3D printed face shields are affordable, lightweight, one-size-fits-most and ready-to-wear with minimal assemblies, and go on easily over glass, goggle and face mask. To ensure being donated to the healthcare professionals without risk infected by any pathogens, the 3D printed face shields were successfully be disinfected with ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI dosage of 1000 mJ/cm2) and 70% alcohol. For routine disinfection a UVGI chamber was designed and optimized to provide uniform UV-C illumination with an appreciated fluence for complete decontamination. More than 1,000 face shields were produced already and donated to the special hospitals for COVID-19 patients, quarantines, government and medical agencies in Ethiopia as well as in East-African countries. With certainty, our intention goes beyond the hospitals and other first responders, but not limited for all those who have to stay in the service or be in contact with many other people in the time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Pr6O11의 함량 및 열처리 조건에 따른 YPO4:Pr3+ 형광체의 발광 특성 연구 (A Study on the Luminescent Characteristics of YPO4:Pr3+ Phosphor by the Content Ratio of Pr6O11 and Calcination Temperature)

  • In this study, the praseodymium-doped yttrium phosphate (YPO4:Pr3+) powder, which is well known for its high luminescent efficiency, and long life in the UV range, was synthesized with various content ratios of Pr6O11 and calcination temperature. Crystal structure and luminescent properties of various phosphor powders based on different concentrations and calcination conditions were characterized by XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) and PL (photoluminescence) spectrometers. From the XRD analysis, the structure of YPO4:Pr3+ which is calcinated at 1,200℃ was stable tetragonal phase and crystal size was calculated about 25 nm by Scherrer equation. PL emission of YPO4:Pr3+ with a different content ratio of Pr6O11 by excitation λexc=250 nm shows that 0.75 mol% phosphor powder has maximum PL intensity and PL decreases with the increase of the ratio of Pr6O11 up to 1.25 mol% which is caused by changes of crystallinity of phosphor powders. With increasing dopant ratio, photo-luminescence Emission decreases due to Concentration quenching, which is commonly observed in phosphors. Currently, 0.75 mol% is considered the optimal doping concentration. A hybrid ultraviolet-emitting device incorporating YPO4:Pr3+ fluorescent material with plasma discharge was fabricated to enhance UV germicidal effects while minimizing ozone generation. UV emission from the plasma discharge device was shown at about 200 nm and 350 nm which caused additional emission of the regions of 250 nm, 315 nm, and 370 nm from the YPO4:Pr3+ phosphor.

  • A water sterilization system is developed utilizing a 275 nm-wavelength LED light source equipped with a TIR lens. The system's light source is constructed by combining a 275 nm-wavelength UVC LED, known for its germicidal properties, with a TIR lens having a direction angle of 6.8 degrees. The optical simulation software 'LightTools' is employed to design and optimize the intensity of deep ultraviolet sterilizing light irradiation, its distribution, and sterilization capacity. In the inactivation experiment with E. coli, the water sterilizer system achieved a sterilization rate of 78.92 % while maintaining a water flow capacity of 50 L/min. Compared to the conventional mercury lamp light source water sterilizer system, the UVC LED water sterilizer system addresses environmental concerns related to mercury usage and offers advantages in terms of lifespan and durability.

화학방부제 배합량 감소를 위한 폴리올류의 항균, 방부영향력 연구 (Effects of Polyols on Antimicrobial and Preservative Efficacy in Cosmetics)

  • 일반적으로 화장품에는 제품의 보존성을 향상시키는 것을 목적으로, 파라옥시안식향산에스텔(paraben, 파라벤), 이미다졸리 디닐우레아, 페녹시에탄올, 클로로페네신 등의 화학 방부제가 배합되어 있다. 화학 방부제는 제형의 안정성 및 방부 유효성이 우수하지만, 독성, 피부자극, 알러지를 유발하는 등의 단점이 있어 배합량을 줄이거나 배제하고도 제품의 안정성 및 유효성이 높은 보존 기술이 요구된다. 종래부터 글리세린, 1,3-부틸렌글리콜(BG), 프로필렌글리콜(PG), 디프로필렌글리콜(DPG) 등의 폴리올류들은 보습성분 및 용매로 범용되고 있으며, 고농도로 사용할 경우 항균력이 있지만, 사용성을 떨어뜨리고, 피부 자극을 유발하는 등 제품의 성능을 저하시키는 문제점이 있었다. 본 연구의 목적은 폴리올류의 조성별 항균, 방부력 영향을 평가하고, 스킨케어 유화제형에서 방부제 함량을 감소시킬 수 있는 폴리올 조성을 도출하여 방부제의 사용량을 감소시키고, 사용성 및 안정성도 개선하는 것이다. 범용적으로 사용되는 폴리올류의 항균 증가력을 측정한 결과 글리세린의 항균 증가력은 미미한 반면 BG, PG의 영향력은 유의(p < 0.05) 하였다. S. aureus를 대상으로 화학 방부제의 항균력 증가를 측정하고 상관성을 회귀분석한 결과 폴리올 1 %를 증량할 때 PG는 $2.1{\sim}8.4 %$, BG는 $1.8{\sim}8.4 %$ 방부제의 항균력을 증가시킬 것으로 추정되었다. 로션, 크림 등 유화제품에서 폴리올에 의한 방부력 증가율을 측정한 결과 글리세린의 경우 5 %까지 함량을 증가시켜도 방부력이 증진되지 않았으며, BG 및 PG는 $5.5{\sim}9.9 %$ 증가할 때 40 % 이상까지 방부력을 증가시켰다. 이상의 폴리올의 항균, 방부 영향력 측정으로 유화 제품에서 폴리올 배합을 조정하여 방부제 사용량을 40 %까지 감소시키고 사용성과 안전성 그리고 제품의 안정성을 개선할 수 있음을 확인하였고, paraben-free, 저방부, 무방부 시스템 도입시 베이스 처방의 기준으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Clinical Characteristics of Acute Drug Intoxication in Emergency Department

  • The number of acute drug intoxication who visiting to emergency department which is located near urban and rural area concomitantly is inclined to increase slightly, The purpose of this study was the investigation of methods and strategies of management of acute drug intoxication in emergency department Clinical trials were done on 92 cases of acute drug intoxication visiting to Emergency Department of Chungnam National University Hospital during 4 months from April to July 2003. 1. The total number of acute drug intoxication during this period was 92 patients, which presented 0.95% of all the emergency department visiting patients during the study. The intentional ingestions were observed in 84 cases (91.3%). 2. The maximal point of age distribution was 4th decade. The number of that was 21 cases (22.8%). 3. The number of patients who had ingested benzodiazepines and doxylamine succinates was 26 cases (28.2%), organophosphorus was 20 (21.7%), paraquat was 10 (10.8%), others were 36 (39.3%). 4. Five kinds of po1ydrug ingestion was observed in 3 cases, four kinds was observed in 3, three kinds was observed in 5 and co-ingestion of alcohol was observed in 28 cases (30.4%). 5. The mortality was occurred in 4 cases, 2 of them were caused by paraquat, 1 of them was caused by organophosphorus (OP), 1 of them was caused by acetic acid. 6. The gastric larvage as a mean of treatment modality was done in 57 cases (61.9%). The use of activated charcoal was done in 8 (8.69%). The maintenance of tracheal intubation was done in 6 (6.52%). 7. The mean observational period in emergency department was 8 hours 42 minutes in benzodiazepine and doxylamine succinate group, 21 hours 46 minutes in OP, 20 hours 39 minutes in other germicidal except OP, 23 hours 9 minutes in paraquat group. Without a drug information and intoxication center in Korea, We should minimize the exhaustion of medical resources by establishment of determinant criteria which can be seen in relatively less-complicated cases of acute drug intoxication. Thus, we should consider the introduction of simple toxicology treatment protocol and toxicologic observation unit in emergency department as possible means to reduce economical and social burdens.

필터의 개발을 통한 해수 육상수조식 양식장의 환경개선에 관한 연구 II. 필터 운행에 따른 유입수 및 배출수의 정화효과 (The Development of Filter for Environmental Improvement in Land Based Seawater Fish Farm II. Purification efficacy of Inlet and Outlet Seawater by Filter)

  • 육상 수조식 양식장의 유입수에 망목 60$\mu$m 스크린필터 및 조사량 0.5 mWS/$cm^2$ 자외선등, 배출수에 망목 90 $\mu$m 드럼필터를 설치$\cdot$운행하여 어류사육수조의 유입수와 배출수의 정화효과를 검토하였다. 유입 수에 60$\mu$m 스크린필터와 조사량 0.5 mWS/$cm^2$의 UV, 배출수에 90 $\mu$m 드럼필터의 설치$\cdot$운행에 따른 수온, 염분, $NO_3-N,\;NO_2-N,\;NH_4-N,\;PO_4-P$, DO 및 COD에 대한 정화효과는 인정되지 않았다. 그러나, 유입수에 60$\mu$m스크린필터의 설치$\cdot$운행에 의한 부유물질과 탁도는 각각 $48.7\~65.6\%$ (평균, $52.8\%$), $33.3\~42.5\%$ (평균, $35.9\%$)가 제거되었고, 조사량 0.5 mWS/$cm^2$의 UV의 설치$\cdot$운행에 따른 세균 및 비브리오 균수는 각각 $16.7\~20.2\%$ (평균, $19.2\%$), $20.0\~21.9\%$ (평균, $20.9\%$)가 살균되었다. 또한, 배출수에 90 $\mu$m 드럼필터의 설치에 따라 부유물질은 $42.7\~52.6\%$ (평균 $46.9\%$), 탁도는 $27.7\~29.9\%$ (평균 $28.3\%$)의 제거효율을 나타내었다.

전자방사식 고압 저전력 방전을 이용한 OH radical 발생기의 개발과 성능 평가 (Development and Performance Evaluation of Hydroxyl Radical Generator using Electron Emission Type High Voltage and Low Current Discharger)

  • 본 연구는 MOSFET을 이용하여 안정적인 구형파를 구현함과 동시에 순간적인 전류의 상승을 최대한 줄여 전체 회로의 안정성 이 확보된 폐수처리용 전자방사식 OH radical generator를 개발하고자 하였다. 이와 같은 문제를 해결하고 안정성이 확보된 전자방사식 고압 저전력 방전을 이용한 폐수처리용 전자방사식 OH radical generator를 개발하고 그 성능을 평가하고자 하였다. 실험은 2016년 11월부터 2017년 3월까지 실시하였다. 그 결과 AC 체배 변환기의 입력 단에 연결되는 Power MOSFET의 drain 전류는 CR-스너버 구조의 부궤환(negative feedback) 회로를 통해 안정적이고 일정한 펄스 파형을 제공할 수 있었으며 AC 체배 변환기의 여기 전류(excitation current) 감소 및 발진 회로의 안정성을 상승시킬 수 있었다. 또한 이와 같은 회로를 갖는 전자방사식 OH radical generator에서 OH radical을 안정정적으로 발생시킬 수 있었다. 또한 살균능을 평가한 결과, E. coli, S. aureus와 S. flexneri는 60분 후 최대 99.9%이상의 살균력을 보였다. 본 연구 결과를 기반으로, MOSFET을 이용하여 안정적인 구형파를 구현함과 동시에 순간적인 전류의 상승을 최대한 줄여 전체 회로의 안정성이 확보된 살균능이 우수한 폐수처리용 전자방사식 OH radical generator를 개발하였다.
