  • Linear array imaging sensors are widely used in remote sensing satellites. The final products of an imaging sensor can only be used when they are geometrically, radiometrically, and spectrally calibrated. Therefore, at the first stages of sensor design, a detailed calibration procedure must be carefully planned based on the accuracy requirements. In this paper, focusing on inherent optical distortion, a step-by-step procedure for laboratory geometric calibration of a typical push-broom satellite imaging sensor is simulated. The basis of this work is the simulation of a laboratory procedure in which a linear imager mounted on a rotary table captures images of a pin-hole pattern at different angles. By these images and their corresponding pinhole approximation, the correction function is extracted and applied to the raw images to give the corrected ones. The simulation results illustrate that using this approach, the nonlinear effects of distortion can be minimized and therefore the accuracy of the geometric position of this method on the image screen can be improved to better than the order of sub-pixel. On the other hand, the analyses can be used to proper laboratory facility selection based on the imaging sensor specifications and the accuracy.

  • This paper presents a new NC machine performance test and calibration system. In order to measure NC machine erros in simpler, and less time-comsuming way, some indirect measuring systems such as circular disk system and double ball bar system have been developed instead of laser interferometer. But these indirect measuring systems have shown their limits in identifying each of NC machine error sources in absolute numerical value. Therefore, we developed an unique NC machine error measurement system which provides a simple measuring process like other conventional indirect methods and still can indentify each of NC machine error sources in absolute numerical value.

  • According to improved radiation therapy technology such as IMRT and proton therapy, the accuracy of patient alignment system is more emphasized and IGRT is dominated research field in radiation oncology. We proposed to study the feasibility of cone-beam CT system using simple x-ray imaging systems for image guided proton therapy at National Cancer Center. 180 projection views ($2,304{\times}3,200$, 14 bit with 127 ${\mu}m$ pixel pitch) for the geometrical calibration phantom and humanoid phantoms (skull, abdomen) were acquired with $2^{\circ}$ step angle using x-ray imaging system of proton therapy gantry room ($360^{\circ}$ for 1 rotation). The geometrical calibration was performed for misalignments between the x-ray source and the flat-panel detector, such as distances and slanted angle using available algorithm. With the geometrically calibrated projection view, Feldkamp cone-beam algorithm using Ram-Lak filter was implemented for CBCT reconstruction images for skull and abdomen phantom. The distance from x-ray source to the gantry isocenter, the distance from the flat panel to the isocenter were calculated as 1,517.5 mm, 591.12 mm and the rotated angle of flat panel detector around x-ray beam axis was considered as $0.25^{\circ}$. It was observed that the blurring artifacts, originated from the rotation of the detector, in the reconstructed toomographs were significantly reduced after the geometrical calibration. The demonstrated CBCT images for the skull and abdomen phantoms are very promising. We performed the geometrical calibration of the large gantry rotation system with simple x-ray imaging devices for CBCT reconstruction. The CBCT system for proton therapy will be used as a main patient alignment system for image guided proton therapy.

  • It is important to establish the transformational relation between scanned image coordinates and digital image coordinates because the coordinate system of digital image is transformed from scanned image coordinate system through scanning work. And, some researches are required in scanning works to correct the deformation that is due to the motion of scanner. In this study, some procedures are applied to determine the optimal calibration model equation which can calibrate the scanner. As a result the optimal calibration model equation for the object scanner is determined The procedure of this study can applied to the calibration of other types of scanner, because the procedures are done with the analysis of geometrical properties rather than the analysis of physical properties.

  • A method is presented by which precise evaluation of radioactive concentrations in liquid or gaseous effluent released from large nuclear facilities is possible. Calculations have been made of the calibration constants at different energies for a commonly used liquid and gaseous effluent monitors as well. It is expected that the method could be applicable to the particular monitors with different geometrical configuration with simple modifications.

  • This paper presents a stereo camera system that provides a Pair of stereo images using a Biprism. The equivalent of a stereo Pair of images is formed as the left and right halves of a single CCD image. The system is therefore cheap and extremely easy to calibrate since it requires only one CCD camera. An additional advantage of the geometrical set-up is that corresponding features lie on the same scanline automatically, The single camera and Biprism have led to a simple stereo system for which correspondence is very easy and which is accurate for nearby objects in a small field of view. Since we use only a single lens, calibration of the system is greatly simplified. Given the parameters in the Biprism-stereo camera system, we can reconstruct the 3-D structure using only the disparity between the corresponding points.

  • Depth-sensing indentation is wifely used for evaluation of mechanical properties of thin films. It is generally accepted that the most significant source of uncertainty in nanoindentation measurement is the geometry of the indenter tip. Therefore the successful application of the technique requires accurate calibration of the indenter tip geometry. The direct measurement of geometry of a Berkovich indenter was determined using a atomic force microscope. The indentation geometrical calibration of contact area was performed by analyzing the indenter tip profile. The equations of area functions were proposed for nanoscale thin films..

  • In this paper we handle a system that transform sensor data to sensor information. Sensor informations from redundant accelerometers are manipulated to represent the configuration of objects carrying sensors. Basic sensor unit of the proposed systme is composed of 3 accelerometers that are aligned along x-y-z coordination axes of motion. To refine the sensor information, at first the sensor data are fused by geometrical optimization to reduce the variance of sensor information. To overcome the error caused from inexact alignment of each sensor to the coordination system, we propose a calibration technique that identifies the transformation between the coordinate axes and real sensor axes. The calibration technique make the sensor information approach real value. Also, we propose a technique that decomposes the accelerometer data into motion acceleration component and gravity acceleration component so that we can get more exact configuration of objects than in the case of raw sensor data. A set of experimental results are given to show the usefulness of the proposed method as well as the experiments in which the proposed techniques are applied to human body motion capture.

  • Due to the fact that fish-eye lens can provide super wide angles with the minimum number of cameras, field-of-view over 180 degrees, many vehicles are attempting to mount the camera system. Camera calibration should be preceded, and geometrical correction on the radial distortion is needed to provide the images for the driver's assistance. However, vehicle fish-eye cameras have diagonal output images rather than circular images and have asymmetric distortion beyond the horizontal angle. In this paper, we introduce a camera model and metric calibration method for vehicle cameras which uses feature points of the image. And undistort the input image through a perspective projection, where straight lines should appear straight. The method fitted vehicle fish-eye lens with different field of views.

  • In this paper, Inverted Coordinates Image Space (ICIS) is proposed as a solution for the problem of the unbounded accumulator space in the automatic detection of the finite/infinite vanishing points in image space. Since the ICIS is based on the direct transformation from the image space, it does not lose any geometrical information from the original image and it does not require camera calibration as opposed to the Gaussian sphere based methods. Moreover, the proposed method can accurately detect both the finite and infinite vanishing points under a small fixed memory amount as opposed to the conventional image space based methods. Experiments are conducted on various real images in architectural environments to show the advantages of the proposed approach over conventional methods.
