The form accuracy of parts has become an important parameter. Therefore dimensional tolerance and geometric tolerance are used in design to satisfy required quility and functions of parts. But the informations for machining conditions, which can satisfy the assigned geometric tolerance in design, are insufficient. The objectives of this research are to study the effects of the grinding parameters such as traverse speed, work speed, depth of cut, and dwell time on the after-ground workpiece shape, and to find out the major parameters among these parameters. Finally, a methodology is proposed for getting the optimal grinding condition for precision workpiece The results are as follows; The effects of work speed and depth of cut on workpiece shape are ignorable compared to the effect of traverse speed. These is the optimal dwell time depending on the traverse speed. The optimal dwell time is decreasing when the traverse speed is increased.
The optimum shape of header part in a PFHE (parallel-flow heat exchanger) is studied. The optimal values of each geometric parameter are proposed according to their order of influence with varying the four important parameters (the injection angle of working fluid ($\Theta$), the shape of inlet(S), the location of inlet ($y_c/D_{in}$) and the height of the protruding flat tube ( $y_{b/}$$D_{in}$ )). The optimal geometric parameters are as follows:$\Theta= -21^{\circ}C,\; S=Type\; A \;an\;y_b/D_{in}$/=0. The heat transfer rate of the optimum model, compared to that of the reference model, is increased by about 55%. The optimal geometric parameters ran be applicable to the Reynolds number ranging from 5,000 to 20,000.0.
This study examined the kinds, expression, techniques and arrangement of patterns for the traditional women's costume from 1995 to 2002 in North Korea. And the results were compared with South Korean. Conclusions are as follows : In the kinds of patterns the natural plant patterns were much more frequently used in North Korea. These tendency was same to South Korea. And the geometric patterns were more frequently used in South Korea. According to frequency in the expression of patterns, it was the realistic, geometric, stylized shape in North Korea. To the contrary it was the stylized, geometric, realistic shape in South Korea. In terms of decorative techniques, not only the traditional embroidery, gold leaf, multicolored stripes, but also modern collages, painting, beads, applique, flounce, ruffle were used in North Korea. Modern techniques were found comparatively a lot in North Korea, traditional techniques were found comparatively a lot in South Korea. In terms of arrangement of patterns, the modern arrangement was much more frequently used. And localized type of modern arrangement was found comparatively a lot in South and North Korea. Therefore traditional beauty was generally expressed by natural patterns, realistic shape and modern beauty was generally expressed by modern techniques and arrangement of patterns in North Korea.
Steam generator tubes are critical boundary of the primary and secondary side in nuclear power plants. Eddy current testing is commonly used as the method of non-destructive testing for the safety and integrity of steam generator tubes in the nuclear power plants. Changes in the geometric shape act as a stress concentration factor likely to cause a defect during the steam generator operation. The mixed-signals with the geometric shape are distorted and attributes that are difficult to detect signals. An example is bending stress due to compression process at a U-bend occurring in the intrados region which has a small radius of curvature. The resulting change in the geometric shape may lead to a dent like occurrences. The dent can cause stress concentration and generates stress corrosion cracks. In this study, the steam generator tubes of nuclear power plant were selected to study for analysis of mixed-signal containing dent and stress corrosion cracks.
ESP(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) is an optical technique to measure deforamtion of engineering components and materials in industrial areas. ESPI, a non-contact and non-destructive measuring method, is capable of providing full-field results with high spatial resolution and high speed. One of important application aspects using electronic speckle pattern interferometry is to generate contours of a diffuse object in order to provide data for 3-D shape analysis and topography measurement. The electronic speckle contouring is suitable for providing measurement range from millimeters to several centimeters. In this study, we introduce the contouring method by modified dual-beam speckle pattern interferometer and a shift of the two illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. Before the experiments, we performed the geometric analysis for dual-beam-shifted ESPI contouring. And by this geometric analysis, we performed the electronic speckle contouring experiment. We used 4-frame phase shifting method with PZT for quantitative analysis of contour fringes. Finally, we showed good agreements between the geometric analysis and experimental results.
The efficient and well organized database is essential for the management of information in every industrial field. In this study, a practical and effective database which can handle 3-D information of steel bridges is built on the basis of a STEP-based data model. The data model of steel bridge information is classified into geometric and non-geometric part and the design information is represented by linking geometric information and life cycle supported non-geometric information. Especially, the shape information is represented by boundary representation method, which is one of the representative methods of solid model information. In this study, ISO/STEP(STandard for the Exchange of product model data) AP203(configuration controlled design) EXPRESS schema is used to represent the shape information of steel bridge. The syntax of EXPRESS schema of developed data model is verified by NIST Expresso - is a tool for parsing and compiling EXPRESS schema. Also, this study verifies the conformance of the data model by applying to the real data of Hannam bridge. Therefore, the constructed database using STEP-based data model of steel bridges can be used effectively in the concurrent engineering point of view with transferring and sharing steel bridge information.
3D geometric modeling of an object of interest has been intensively investigated in many fields including CAD/CAM and computer graphics. Traditionally, CAD and geometric modeling tools are widely used to create geometric models that have nearly the same shape of 3D real objects or satisfy designers intent. Recently, with the help of the reverse engineering (RE) technology, we can easily acquire 3D point data from the objects and create 3D geometric models that perfectly fit the scanned data more easily and fast. In this paper, we present 3D geometric model generation based on a stereo vision system (SVS) using random pattern projection. A triangular mesh is considered as the resulting geometric model. In order to obtain reasonable results with the SVS-based geometric model generation, we deal with many steps including camera calibration, stereo matching, scanning from multiple views, noise handling, registration, and triangular mesh generation. To acquire reliable stere matching, we project random patterns onto the object. With experiments using various random patterns, we propose several tips helpful for the quality of the results. Some examples are given to show their usefulness.

In manufacturing of exact products, the offsetting is required to transfer the design data of shape to manufacturing data. In offsetting the degeneracies are occurred, and these problems are mere difficult in freeform shapr manufacuring. This paper is using the geometric properties of B-spline curves to solve the degeneracy of offsetting and to generating of enhanced offsetting. The offsetting of B-spline control polygon spans generates exact control polygon of original shapes. This method is faster in generating offset curve than the normal offsetting, and the resulted offset curves are exact. The additional property of this method is using to control offset shape as B-spline curves. We believe that this method is as effective solution for modifying of offset curves.
Mathematically, a proof is to create a convincing argument through logical reasoning towards a given proposition or a given statement. Mathematics educators have been working diligently to create environments that will assist students to perform proofs. One of such environments is the use of dynamic-geometry-software in the classroom. This paper reports on a case study and intends to probe into students' own thinking, patterns they used in completing certain tasks, and the extent to which they have utilized technology. Their tasks were to explore the shape-to-shape, shape-to-part, and part-to-part interrelationships of geometric objects when dealing with certain geometric problem-solving situations utilizing dissection-motion-operation (DMO).
Shape optimal design of an excavator boom to minimize weight can be formulated as a nonlinear programming problem with an automesh refinement carried out by using the finite element method. The design variables are the radii and the coordinates of the circle to describe the excavator boundary shape. In addition to the displacement and stress constraints, geometric constraints are imposed such that the nodes cannot cross the certain range. The optimum design is obtained by using the PLBA nonlinear programming code. The sensitivity derivatives are calculated using the semi-analytical scheme. Numerical results of an excavator boom show potential for weight reduction of 4.4%(65.6 kgf) when considering the displacement, stress and geometric constraints.
