This paper describes a method of stereo image composition for mixed reality without camera calibration or complicate tracking algorithm. The proposed system tracks the panel which has blob makers, and composes virtual objects naturally using the method of texture mapping which is often used in geological computer graphics mapping when we do mapping 2D computer graphic data or man-made 2D images. The proposed algorithm makes it possible for us to compose virtual data even in the case that the panel is bent. For composing 3D object, the system uses depth information obtained from stereo image so that we do not need cumbersome procedure of camera calibration.

Objectives: This study examines the relationships between indoor radon concentrations and distribution from soil geological mapping in the Hwacheon and Jangsu areas. Methods: GIS and a pivot table were used for inquiries about indoor radon contents, soil characteristics, and geological differences. Results: The Hwacheon area was characterized by the presence of normal and reverse faults as a passage of runoff for radon, sufficient occurrences of minerals containing uranium within granite as a radon source, a high concentration of radon within the granite area and clear differences of radon concentrations between granitic and metamorphic areas. The Jangsu area was characterized by the presence of normal faults, wide distributions of alluvium, and ambiguities on radon concentrations indoors among areas of geological differences. Considering the granite area and alluvium surrounded with granite areas, the characteristics of radon concentrations within soils and indoors in the Jangsu area are similar to those of the Hwacheon area. High concentrations are found with entisol and inceptisol in the Hawcheon area, but with entisol, inceptisol, and ultisol in the Jangsu area. High radon concentrations are found in sandy loam and/or loam. High concentrations are found in recently constructed or brick buildings, but low concentrations in traditional or prefabricated houses showing a high possibility of outward flow. Conclusions: The overall results suggest that radon concentrations in the Hwacheon and Jangsu area are dominantly influenced by geological characteristics with additional artificial influences.

Three processing strategies of seismic refraction data are tested in terms of velocity and depth profiles or structures for mapping of geological discontinuities: GRM(generalized reciprocal method), GLI(generalized linear inversion), Tomography. The test data used in this study are the shot gathers reconstructed by numerical modeling for the structures of 3 planar layers(horizontal, inclined), the buried vertical fracture zones, and vertical fault zones. Tomography is shown to be very efficient for mapping of more complicated tone such as vertical fault and buried fracture zones, whereas GRM and GLI can be useful for horizontal and/or inclined layers, probably on their bases of analysis of first arrivals in travel time curves.
Base researches in geoscience and mineral resources, such as geological and geo-thematic mapping, geological survey and observation, have long-term, continuity and time-leasing characteristics and they are difficult to present the particular research stages or progressions in the research span. The Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), developed by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is effective for presenting research maturity levels and progression in the development of new technologies. This study suggests adjusted definitions for the Technology Readiness Levels to fit Geo-technology (Technology in Geoscience and Mineral Resources). Base geological researches, including mapping, surveys and observation, can be also presented in research levels from TRL 1 (R&D planning, literature survey) to TRL 9 (geological information construction and service in all target areas) in terms of the final product's coverage. Moreover, not only development and construction of commercial products, geological disasters and environmental researches can also be presented in field demonstrations through public pilot applications. The modified commercialization or cemonstration TRLs in Geo-technology are TRL 5 (starting pilot field application), TRL 6 (pilot field operation) and TRL 7 (pilot field operation for a larger scale, greater than ten percent of the actual environment).
Being widely used for preparation of geographic maps in the field of earth sciences, Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) is difficult to understand the contents for user, and not working well with Microsoft (MS) Window PC. By utilizing R package, 'GEOmap', we can do mapping work at MS window PC with commands easier than those of GMT. In addition, the R commands offer interactive help. Here we introduce brief feature of 'GEOmap', and illustrate the procedure for preparing tomographic maps with an example.
TM data, which have better resolution in spatial and spectral than MSS data, were used for this study, and several Image Processing Techniques (IPT) were examined for finding the best IPT to fit to lineament extraction and mineralized zone mapping. The Ryeongnam area was selected as test area, because the area is one of major mineralized zones in Korea and its hydrothermal alteration zone is wider and deeper than other areas. The spatial filtering method is most optimum one for limeament extraction: that is, the directional spatial filtering is most efficient to detect N-S, E-W direction lineaments on the image, and the high boost filtering can be applied for mapping all direction lineaments. The ratio method was selected for detecting altered zone. It is possible to make several tens combinations in ratio with 7 bands of TM data, but considering spectral characteristics of each band of TM to the geological meterials and vegetation, the band 4/band 3(A), band 5/band 7(B), and B/A ratio methods were chosen among them. The 5/7 ratio image did not show clearly the altered area due to noise from vegetation cover, so the 4/3 ratio imae was used for trying to decrease the effect of vegetation. As a result the B/A ratio image showed quite nicely the altered zone of the test area. In conclusion, the spatial filtering is the best image processing techniques for lineament mapping, and the B/A ratio image in TM data is useful for the mineralized zone mapping.
As a product of geological mapping of the Changamjeom Sheet (1:50,000) located around Misiryeong at a distance towards the west from Sokcho city, a small laccolith of hypabyssal rocks has been geometrically reconstructed to understand the original laccolith shape using structural contour lines of random spot sediments laid on the quartz feldspar porphyry and a schematic cross section. The laccolith age is constrained to ca. $84.4{\pm}1.8$ Ma (SHRIMP). The originated Baekdam sedimentary basin with the lost size has been yielded to 6 km wide and 16 km long.

In this study we propose a method for 3D landform reconstruction and object modeling method by generating contour lines on the map using a depth sensor which abstracts characteristics of geological layers from the depth map. Unlike the common visual camera, the depth-sensor is not affected by the intensity of illumination, and therefore a more robust contour and object can be extracted. The algorithm suggested in this paper first abstracts the characteristics of each geological layer from the depth map image and rearranges it into the proper order, then creates contour lines using the Bezier curve. Using the created contour lines, 3D images are reconstructed through rendering by mapping RGB images of the visual camera. Experimental results show that the proposed method using depth sensor can reconstruct contour map and 3D modeling in real-time. The generation of the contours with depth data is more efficient and economical in terms of the quality and accuracy.
For an efficient management and analysis of geological/geotechnical data obtained during site investigations or tunnel construction, Tunnel Information System(TIS) was developed in this study. TIS is running in CIS(Geographical Information System) which has a spatial data. TIS consists of two parts, the Tunnel Face Mapping System(FaceMap), to record a geological features by observations and measurements at the surface of the excavation, the Borehole Data Management System(BDMS), to store the different types of rock data related to boreholes. Using the database of collapsed tunnels, 20 in Korea and 84 in Europe and with an artificial neural network, an expert system was developed for inferring the tunnel collapse pattern and its volume. And by applying Geo-predict, the system developed, in tunnels under construction, observed data from the $\bigcirc$$\bigcirc$tunnl site was compared and analyzed.
Drainage patterns were investigated to interpret the unknown geologic structure and geomorphic history in South Korea. Dendritic and rectangular patterns are most prominent ones developed in the granitic and sedimentary terrain. Drainage density ranges from 0.47 in the Nakdong river basin to 0.31 in the South Han river basin. Fine drainge texture is appeared in the Nakdong basin characterized by sedimentary beds of Mesozoic age, and coarse one are in the South Han river basin where Precambrian metamorphic rocks are dominated. Geological structures interpreted by stream pattern analysis are reasonally good agreement with the result by lineaments analysis and geological mapping.
