At new constructing national road, a cutting slope was surveyed and gotten face mapping for three months. The slope is composed of gray phyllite and coaly slate which is the Chang-ri Formation, Okcheon system. The slope angle is 40 degree and the direction is NNE. The attitude of schistosity is $260^{\circ}/45^{\circ}$. So the slope direction is nearly parallel to the schistosity. This is the reason that the slope is very unstable. On the other hand, the very unstable slope is caused by the direction of the schistosity and the slope. First month the coaly slate was slided through the schistosity plane about 10cm. However, three months late the displacement was 2m maximum.

We presents an hazard zonation mapping technique in karst terrain and its assessment. From the detailed engineering geological mapping. Controlling factors of sink hole and limestone cave formation were discussed and 4 main hazard factors affecting hazard potential are identified as follows: prerequisite hazard factor(distributions of pre-existing sink holes and cavities), geomorphological hazard factors(slope gradient, vegetation, and drainage pattern etc.) geological hazard factors(lithology, fracture patterns and geological structures etc.) and hydraulic conditions(hydraulic head, annual fluctuation of ground water table and composition of g/w water). From the construction of hazard zonation map along the Jecheon-Maepo area, and vertical cross-sectional hazard zonations specific tunnel site we suggest hazard zonation rating systems.
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied for regional geological mapping to a multivariate data set of the Landsat TM data in the heavily vegetated and topographically rugged Chungju area. The multivariate data set selection was made by statistical analysis based on the magnitude of regression of squares in multiple regression, and it includes R1/2/R3/4, R2/3, R5/7/R4/3, R1/2, R3/4. R4/3. AND R4/5. As a result of application of PCA, some of later principal components (in this study PC 3 and PC 5) are geologically more significant than earlier major components, PC 1 and PC 2 herein. The earlier two major components which comprise 96% of the total information of the data set, mainly represent reflectance of vegetation and topographic effects, while though the rest represent 3% of the total information which statistically indicates the information unstable, geological significance of PC3 and PC5 in the study implies that application of the technique in more favorable areas should lead to much better results.
The subjects of the study are the sedimentary rock slope of the Mesozoic Gyeongsang Supergroup, which has a high risk of failure. The orientation of the slope-face represents a variety of changing characteristics. The rocks of the slope shall be sandstone, siltstone and dacite, and discontinuities shall develop beddings, shear joints, extension joints, and dacite dyke boundary planes. The type and scale of failure varies depending on the type of rock and the strike/dip of the discontinuities, but the toppling failure prevails. Based on the face-mapping data, SMR, physical and mechanical testing of rocks, analysis and review of the stereonet projections and the critical equilibrium analysis, all four representative sections required a countermeasure method because the acceptable safety factor during dry and rainy seasons were far below Fs = 1.5 and Fs = 1.2. After applying the countermeasure method, both the dry and wet conditions of the slope exceeded the allowable safety factor. In particular, the face-mapping data of the slope-face, the geological cross-sections of several representative sections perpendicular to the slope-face, and the critical equilibrium analysis and the presentation of countermeasure methods that have been reviewed based on them are expected to be reasonable tools for the slope stability. In addition, it will be possible to use it as basic data for performance evaluation for slope maintenance.
The ISODATA method, which is one of the most famous of the square-error clustering methos, has been applied to two Chungju multivariate data sets in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the regional lithological mapping. One is an airborne radiometric data set and the other is a mixed data set of the airborne radiometric and Landsat TM data. In both cases, the classification of the Bulguksa granite and the Kyemyongsan biotite-quartz gneiss are the most successful. Hyangsanni dolomitic limestone and neighboring Daehyangsan quartzite are also classified by their typical lowness of the radioactive intensities, though it is still confused with some others such as water-covered areas and nearby alluvials, and unaltered limestone areas. Topographically rugged valleys are also classified as the same cluster as above. This could be due to unavoidable variations of flight height and the attitude of the airborne system in such rugged terrains. The regional geological mapping of sedimentary rock units of the Ockchun System is in general confused. This might be due to similarities between different sediments. Considarable discrepancies occurred in mapping some lithological boundaries might also be due to secondary effects such as contamination or smoothing in digitizing process. Further study should be continued in the variable selection scheme as no absolutely superior method claims to exist yet since it seems somewhat to be rather data dependent. Study could also be made on the data preprocessing in order to reduce the erratic effects as mentioned above, and thus hoprfully draw much better result in regional geological mapping.
The genesis of ore bodies is a very diverse and complex process, and the target depth of mineral exploration increases. These create a need for predictive mineral exploration, which may be facilitated by the advancement of machine learning and geological database. In this study, we confirm that the faults and igneous rocks distributions and magnetic data can be used as input data for potential mapping using deep neural networks. When the input data are constructed with faults, igneous rocks, and magnetic data, we can build a potential mapping model of the metal deposit that has a predictive accuracy greater than 0.9. If detailed geological and geophysical data are obtained, this approach can be applied to the potential mapping on a mine scale. In addition, we confirm that the magnetic data, which provide the distribution of the underground igneous rock, can supplement the limited information from the surface igneous rock distribution. Therefore, rather than simply integrating various data sets, it will be more important to integrate information considering the geological correlation to genesis of minerals.

In order to develop a new mineral exploration technique, a study was carried out about the potential mapping of Moisan area using SIP (Spectral Induced Polarization) data. The SIP inversion results were classified according to the geological regions, and the distribution characteristics of resistivity and phase values of SIP data were analyzed at the ore region. Based on the characteristics of SIP of ore bodies, we performed 3D potential mapping of Moisan area. The analyzed potential map was verified using that the locations and patterns of high potential regions of the results are well matched with those of the known ore bodies. If we get the higher spatial resolution SIP data, the potential mapping technique using SIP data can be effectively applied to the estimation of mining deposit.

We introduce a new 'image-mapping' in-situ U-Pb dating method using LA-ICP-MS, proposed by Drost et al. (2018), and show the characteristics and usability of this method through several examples of absolute age results determined by first applying it to samples from the Joseon Supergroup of the Early Paleozoic Era in Korea. Unlike the previous in-situ spot analysis, this in-situ U-Pb dating method for carbonate minerals can determine the absolute age with high reliability by applying the 'image-mapping' method of micro-sized domains based on micro-textural observation, as well as determine the absolute age of multiple geological 'events' that occurred after deposition. This was confirmed in the case of determining the syn-depositional age and the multiple post-depositional ages from carbonate minerals of the Makgol and the Daegi Formations. Therefore, if the 'image-mapping' in-situ U-Pb dating method is applied to determine the absolute age of various types of carbonate minerals that exist in various geological environments throughout the geologic era, it will be possible to secure new geological age information.
Face mapping and displacement monitoring during tunnel construction are the most influential information for the stability assessment of ground and around structures. Especially, the result of face mapping and displacement analysis is essential to the excavation and support design in NATM which is based on the drilling and blasting. However, there have not been so many studies to put those useful information into practice for decision-making process during construction. The study reviewed the tunnel behaviour based on the RMR rating and displacement monitoring when the geological condition of rock mass varies inevitably. The study analysed the crown settlement using convergence equation in order to compensate the disparity induced by the location and time of measurement and found a distinct relation between the geological condition and the line of influence. As a result of analysing the various parameters related to the tunnel convergence according to the geological condition, the study suggested the basic knowledge about the relation between face mapping and displacement behaviour of tunnel.
Natural cavitied were found at shallow depth during construction of a huge bridge in Cambro-Ordovician Limestone Basin in the central part or Korea. The distribution patterns of cavities in this area were investigated carefully with a supplementary field job such as a structural geological survey, a geophysical survey, and a rock mechanical test in laboratory or field. A structural geological mapping produced a detail geological map focusing the route of the Proposed highway. It suggested that there were three faults in this wet and these faults had an influence on the mechanism of natural cavities. Among many kinds of geophysical surveys, an electrical resistivity prospecting was applied first on the specific area that was selected by results from the geological survey. Many evidences far cavities were disclosed from this geophysical data. Therefore, a seismic tomography was tested on the target wet which was focused by results from the electrical resistivity Prospecting and was believed to have several large cavities. A distinct element numerical simulation using the UDEC was followed on the target area after completing all of field surveys. Data from field tests were directly dumped or extrapolated to numerical simulations as input data. It was verified from numerical analysis that several natural cavities underneath the foundation of the bridge should be reinforced Based on the project result, finally, most of fecundations far the bridge were re-examined and the cement grouting reinforcement was constructed on several foundations among them.
