  • There are various ways for expressing map on android system. The typical method is to use the API provided by Google, called geocoding although simple display of location of GPS is possible, but node expression of road or the detail information on map for various location service are not available. And it is difficult to express a location in shadow area. In this paper, to solve these problems, we propose a map expression method for location service in specific area based on geocoding and apply the method.

  • This paper presents a road detection technique for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Roads are important cartographic features. We incorporate an active contour model called snake as a model for the road and define a new external energy for snake which is appropriate for the road. Detecting roads in spaceborne SAR images is very difficult without other information. In this paper, digital maps are utilized to obtain the initial position and shape for snake. Only approximate geodetic location of roads appearing in SAR images can be known through geocoding process and usual digital maps also have location errors. Therefore, there exist large location offsets between the two data. By introducing initial matching procedure, the errors are reduced significantly. Then we initialize the snake's shape using the roads extracted from digital map and minimize the energies of all snake points to detect roads. We outline two problems in detection and propose a method that mitigates them.

  • In this paper, we introduce an algorithm for the ortho-rectification of high resolution pushbroom-type satellite images. The generation of ortho-images in the ultimate level of the satellite image preprocessing which also includes systematic geocoding and precision geocoding. It is also essential for the mapping of satellite images because topotraphic maps are based on the orthographic projection. The newly developed ortho-image generation algorithm introduced in this paper is on the line of the algorithms previously developed (Shin and Lee, 1997; Shin e 1998). Various experimental results are shown in this paper. The results show that the algorithm completely eliminates the disparities in the perspectively viewed images which were caused by the terrain height. The absolute accuracy of the developed algorithm depends on the accuracy of the camera model and the digital elevation model used.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze habitat distribution on tiger, wolf, and leopard in Joseonwangjosilok. Nowaday, we only come to meet these kind of animals at the historical records because of haman-induced habitat encroachment. Historically, extinct animal became an object of game by people. So, we try to get distribution information for restoration on historical extinct animals. We made distribution map by constructing 402 counts on tiger(350), leopard(51) and wolf(1) recordsfrom 14th to Early 20th century for study. Analyzing historical materials, criteria for data analysis took into account objectivity, location information, accuracy for extinct animals. We carried out location identification of animals by using geocoding comparing with geographical name of the Joseon Dynasty period, topographic map of time under the rule of Japanese imperialism, present place name and historical materials. Database items are constructed 20 types for example appearance year of animal, population, location, damage, etc. As a result of analysis for appearance regions, tigers were recorded in capital area of higher density population intensively, and also were frequently seen at Daegu, Andong etc. Leopard and wolf were founded at regionally Gyeonggi-do and Jinju with limitation, relatively seen a few number. The reason of the appearance records like this, tiger prefer game of open and water-front area in near human residential area, there are lots of historical records such as 'Hosang'(mourning someone who killed by Tiger) and hunting. But leopard and wolf inhabit rocky area and dense forest, the reason why they made a few contact with human. Results of this are expect to be applicable restoration research for extinct animal by providing for populations, habitat environments and distribution information.

  • Recently, the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been increasingly in demand due to its advantage of being able to observe desired points regardless of time and weather. To utilize SAR data, first of all, many pre-processing such as satellite orbit correction, radiometric calibration, multi-looking, and geocoding are required. For analysis of SAR imagery such as object detection, change detection, and DEM(Digital Elevation Model), additional processings are needed. These pre-processing and additional processes are very complex and require a lot of time and computational resources. In order to handle the SAR images easily, the institutions that use SAR images develop analysis tools and provide users. This paper introduces the function and characteristics of representative SAR imagery analysis tools.

  • The 2-pass DInSAR (Differential Interferometric SAR) processing steps for DEM generation consist of the co-registration of SAR image pair, interferogram generation, phase unwrapping, calculation of DEM errors, and geocoding, etc. It requires complicated steps, and the accuracy of data processing at each step affects the performance of the finally generated DEM. In this study, we developed an improved method for enhancing the performance of the DEM generation method based on the 2-pass DInSAR technique of TanDEM-X bistatic SAR images was developed. The developed DEM generation method is a method that can significantly reduce both the DEM error in the unwrapped phase image and that may occur during geocoding step. The performance analysis of the developed algorithm was performed by comparing the vertical accuracy (Root Mean Square Error, RMSE) between the existing method and the newly proposed method using the ground control point (GCP) generated from GPS survey. The vertical accuracy of the DInSAR-based DEM generated without correction for the unwrapped phase error and geocoding error is 39.617 m. However, the vertical accuracy of the DEM generated through the proposed method is 2.346 m. It was confirmed that the DEM accuracy was improved through the proposed correction method. Through the proposed 2-pass DInSAR-based DEM generation method, the SRTM DEM error observed by DInSAR was compensated for the SRTM 30 m DEM (vertical accuracy 5.567 m) used as a reference. Through this, it was possible to finally create a DEM with improved spatial resolution of about 5 times and vertical accuracy of about 2.4 times. In addition, the spatial resolution of the DEM generated through the proposed method was matched with the SRTM 30 m DEM and the TanDEM-X 90m DEM, and the vertical accuracy was compared. As a result, it was confirmed that the vertical accuracy was improved by about 1.7 and 1.6 times, respectively, and more accurate DEM generation was possible with the proposed method. If the method derived in this study is used to continuously update the DEM for regions with frequent morphological changes, it will be possible to update the DEM effectively in a short time at low cost.

  • The urbanization of Korea has been rapidly progressed since 1960. Current available satellite images used in various fields are obtained after 1975. The CORONA Image data declassified in 1995, and are the only source of image which provide 1960's topographic information of the Korean Peninsula. In this sense CORONA imagery can be readily applicable for change detection in various fields such as urban, forest and environmental planning. To generate CORONA mosaic image of Korea we undertook comparative analysis of the various geocoding methods. We also applied the linear regression method to perform the radiometric balance between the strips.

  • Due to the development of information technology and business related to geographical location of customer, the need for the storage and analysis of geographical location data is increasing rapidly. Geographical location data have a spatio-temporal nature which is different from typical business data. Therefore, different methods of data storage and analysis are required. This paper proposes a multi-dimensional data model and data visualization to analyze geographical location data efficiently and effectively. Purchase order data of an online farm products brokerage business was used to build prototype datamart. RFM scores are calculated to classify customers and geocoding technology is applied to display information on maps, thereby to enhance data visualization.
